Greetings, friends of Chief. Today, we’re talking new stuff, including more Ghosts of Meridian, Warzone Turbo, and more. Let’s go!

To start, we’d like to thank those of you who have provided feedback in region-specific matchmaking threads on Waypoint as well as r/Halo. Earlier this morning, the team made a series of adjustments that should improve the experience and matchmaking speed for players who have been impacted. Hop on and let us know how it goes. Next, let’s talk about this weekend’s featured playlist: Warzone Turbo.

ISSUE 68

Welcome back, folks, and thanks for joining us for another round of your favorite Fodder. Last week, we took an early look at the fiction behind the upcoming Warzone map, Skirmish at Darkstar, chatted canonical competition, and more. This week, we’re going to take a look at some of the sweet new loot that will be accompanying our next content update for Halo 5: Guardians, Ghosts of Meridian. Up today is a Mjolnir variant for the up-close-and-personal crowd, a particularly lovely and lethal gravity hammer, and some highly modified UNSC materiel. Before we dive in too far, I do want to give personal congratulations to Counter Logic Gaming and its members – LETHUL, ROYAL 2, SNAKEBITE, and FROSTY – on taking the Halo World Championship last weekend, as well as a cool one million dollars. And congrats to fan-hero Brett “Naded” Leonard for taking home the series MVP, and to each and every team for bringing their best to make the Halo WC and absolutely outstanding event. Hopefully, as Halo fans, you’ll take an opportunity to celebrate them as well, because trust me, as competitive Halo continues to grow and succeed, we will all benefit. But back to business, let’s lore!

Halo Community Update: Community Battlegrounds

This is a reblog from HaloWaypoint:

BY B IS FOR BRAVO

Greetings! Welcome Back. Glad you’re here. We’ve got a quick update today, but some good stuff inside. Let’s dig in.

We’ve returned from the Halo World Championship, which was a glorious celebration of fine-tuned multiplayer skill. This weekend was not only a historic time for Halo esports, but also a special weekend for me as a fan of competitive Halo. On the finest Halo stage yet, 16 teams from around the globe met in Hollywood to determine which was the best squad in all the world. Between Allegiance’s comeback in the quarterfinals and road to the finals, Epsilon achieving the first top 8 finish at a major North American event, and CLG’s dominance all weekend, the event was one for the history books. Memories were made, champions were crowned, new features were teased, and the HCS Pro League was announced. In short, we are indeed just getting started, and there’s plenty more where that came from. Thank you all for tuning in and making the Halo World Championships the most-watched Halo tournament in history. To catch the finals video on demand, head here.

Over the past few weeks, our teams have been preparing for the Ghosts of Meridian update, keeping an eye on feedback on things like Warzone Assault gameplay, sandbox tuning, region-specific matchmaking (we’d love your feedback in this thread), and more. The MP team continues work on new modes, has recently updated Torque and the Mantis REQ level, and just today, based on feedback, we’ve loosened the parameters within social playlists to make them feel “a bit more social,” and also added some of our favorite community maps to BTB and Grifball. More on that later. Continue reading

Greetings ladies, gentlemen, and alien aficionados. Welcome back to another week of Canon Fodder! When last we met within these virtual walls, we officially announced Halo: Tales from Slipspace – a brand new graphic novel anthology from 343 Industries and Dark Horse Comics – and took a deeper dive into the lore of some upcoming craft in Halo: Fleet Battles. As mentioned last issue, we’ll be talking a bit more about specific story themes later on for the graphic novel, so stay tuned.Speaking of last week, I’m sure many of you saw in Bravo’s exquisite weekly Community Update the first look at the upcoming Warzone map, Skirmish at Darkstar – set on the glassed colony of Meridian. This week, we’re going to take a peek at the deeper fictional impact of the setting, as well as take a look at the connective tissues between the Halo World Championship and the War Games simulations. Let’s take a look!

Community Update: The Calm Before the Storm

This is reblog from Halo WaypointL

BY B IS FOR BRAVO

Welcome back, readers. Another Friday has arrived, which means the weekend is here, and we’re one week away from the Halo World Championship, as well as one week closer to the Ghosts of Meridian and plenty more Halo 5 goodness.

Earlier this week, the services team released a series of updates aimed to help Arena players at high skill levels find matches faster, and also to ensure that Onyx players are seeing the appropriate amount of CSR movement after wins and losses. We’re hearing things are working well. Additionally, we’ve been keeping an eye on reports from players around the globe, and working with top players in international regions to determine further improvements that can be made to matchmaking. Keep the feedback coming. Continue reading

This week, we’ll be talking about some awesome upcoming ship-stuff from our friends at Spartan Games, as well as introducing a brand new project that keen-eyed fans might have gotten a glimpse of recently.A few days ago, a new Halo product from the fine folks at Dark Horse Comics surfaced, piquing the interest of eager-eyed lore-lovers across a number of community haunts, who quickly went zero-to-gravemind trying to use their compound intelligence to decipher its true nature. Well, we’re here to help clear things up a bit, and give you some early details to sate certain curiosities, and set speculatory fire to others. With that in mind, read on!

Canon Fodder: Fighting Words

Before we get started, you should know that this Canon Fodder is laden with news regarding the Arbiter in Killer Instinct as opposed to in a Halo game. However, there is also a fair bit of Sangheilli Elite info in here too.

Greetings, fiction fans, and welcome back to Canon Fodder, your weekly look at the expansive and evolving fiction of the Halo universe. Last week we spent a bit of time looking at some of the extended lore behind new play-spaces, armors, and weapons of Halo 5: Guardians new content update – Hammer Storm – which as many of you know slammed onto the shores of your Xbox One consoles this very week. ISSUE 63

How goes, Halo fans? This week has been a busy one at the studio as we tackled Toy Fair 2016, and are preparing for the impending arrival of Halo 5: Guardians’ next content update, Hammer Storm. Speaking of which, after reading Bravo’s excellent preview last week, more than a few of you inquired about when we might talk a bit about the lore behind some of Hammer Storm’s upcoming aspects like maps and armor. Fortunately, that particular question has a relatively easy answer: Today. So while last week we chatted about some fun fiction that certainly sits on the outskirts of canonical relevance, this week we’ll be moving the needle back much closer to the storytelling sweet spot. Let’s dive in! Continue reading

Community Update: The Storm is Coming

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

BY B IS FOR BRAVO

Greetings, friends. Another week has passed since the last formal community blog, which means the weekend is here again, and this is cause for celebration. Also worth celebrating is the impending arrival of the Hammer Storm update. Let’s talk about that and more!

PERMANENT SOCIAL PLAYLIST

As we mentioned last week, based on feedback from across the internet as well as the Halo Community Feedback Program, the multiplayer team has kicked off a permanent social playlist that will feature a variety of offerings. Single game modes (Social CTF, which just went live, for example), variety playlists, new game types, community playlists, and more will all live in this new location. We’ve also been keeping an eye on your feedback on matching/skill matchmaking within social playlists. We hope you enjoy, and we’ll see you online. Hopefully, I don’t end up getting assassinated on the front page of r/Halo again.

HFFL: This is definitely a step in the right direction!

THE (HAMMER) STORM IS COMING

The Hammer Storm update draws near, and we are so darn excited that we’re moving our livestream up to an earlier date. We simply cannot wait until Friday to do this stream. Here are the details:

Hammer Storm Live Stream
Tuesday, Feb 23 at 3:00 p.m. PST
Twitch.tv/Halo & The Halo Channel

HFFL: Hmm, I had heard the update was coming early next week. With the live stream being moved up, I hope it’s safe to say that we will be getting the actual update on Tuesday as well. This is NOT confirmed though.

We’ll see you on the stream, which we’re packing with lots of sweet new stuff like new game types, an Arena map debut, fresh new REQs, and more. Speaking of, though we’re saving some of the stuff for the stream itself, we thought we’d show off some early looks at the upcoming Arena map as well as a few new REQs that are on the way. Halo Community Update: Hammer Storm Preview

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint (With what I think is some EXCITING NEWS!):

BY B IS FOR BRAVO

Happy weekend, friends. It is my hope that this update finds you well. Today, we’ve got a short blog celebrating all things love, and also a preview of the update dropping later this month. We’ll start this week with the ultimate Double Date, and the only plans you need for this Valentine’s Day weekend.

VALENTINE’S DOUBLE DATE

To celebrate the occasion, our multiplayer team took some time to create a special Valentine’s Day weekend social playlist, and having played myself in the lab, I can say that it does hit a certain soft spot. Something about the pink hues combined with a Halo 2 BR in my hands just does it for me. To ensure that you’re ready to take your relationship to the next level, here are the playlist details: Continue reading

Halo Community Update: A While New Ball Game

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

BY B IS FOR BRAVO

Greetings! The Halo community team is back on the road, currently spread throughout Germany, Australia, and those who might still be stuck in the snowy mountains of Aspen, Colorado. This specific blog is coming to you from Cologne, Germany, and has been beamed up to the satellites for worldwide perusal. If you’re reading this, the transmission has been successful.

We’ve got a quick update today, but one that covers a variety of topics which may interest you as we dig into recent updates as well as items in the works.

First things first, Infinity’s Armory launched last week just before the X Games festivities kicked off. We hope you’re enjoying Infinity’s Armory so far and are looking forward to what’s on the way.

Before we move on, a quick word about last weekend’s X Games adventures. Traveling down to Aspen to watch some of the best players in the world compete for X Games medals was truly one of the highlights of my career, and one of the most enjoyable moments for me as a Halo fan. There was a certain energy in the air that was quite unique to this competition. Perhaps it was the altitude, but more likely it was a sense of something new to fight for, on an all-new game, in front of an audience comprised of new interested parties in addition to captive veteran viewers. This was Halo 5’s first major live event in North America, and it’s my hope, whether you tuned in all weekend long on twitch or caught the recaps each day on ESPN, that you enjoyed what you saw, too. We can’t thank you enough for supporting the game we all love, and hope you’ll join us for more in the coming weeks and months. Lastly, congrats to EG and CLG, who put on some of the best finals we’ve seen in quite some time.

Canon Fodder: Judges & Jurys

ISSUE 61

Greetings you narrative noodlers, and welcome back to another edition of Canon Fodder. It’s been a busy week behind the scenes lately so our lighter portions continue, but seeds are being planted, soil tended to, and rows carefully watered. Here’s hoping that the eventual fruits of our love-laden labors taste sweet upon your yearning tastebuds. Last week we tossed some much-desired attention over the Brutes’ way, highlighting the backstory behind the ultimately tragic tale of a Chieftain challenger. This week we’re switching up the normal way of things and providing a bit of a different flavor of character angle – multiple angles in fact. Oh, and there was that thing that many of you saw over the weekend. Might as well get that out of the way first, eh?

Canon Fodder: Brute Force

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

BY GRIMBROTHER ONE
ISSUE 60

Welcome back aboard the lore train, ladies and gentlemen. Last week, we dropped a pretty heavy bombardment of juicy fiction-focused topics. As you’ll quickly notice, this week will be a much lighter and stealthier affair – though hopefully no less enjoyable. The studio is hard at work on a myriad of fronts, stoking the fires of forges both known and unknown – some far flung in the future, and some far closer than you think. This week we thought we’d offer a peculiar peek into the backstory of the Jiralhanae – well, one in particular. Though many of you have no doubt encountered him many times, you’ve never known his name. Until today that is. Let’s go ahead and dive in, shall we?

DEEP LINKS

cfcethegus-855c7e5514434544866345e9aa6f402dNear the end of the Halo 3 level “The Ark,” players come across a Brute Chieftain surrounded by minions. He knows who you are, and he’s picking a fight. Some players however, might not realize how unique this particular encounter is. The typical fare is “get in there, clear out the ads, take out the boss.” It’s in some ways ingrained in our gaming muscle-memory. This fight is a bit different, however. This one’s a bit more personal. The Chieftain isn’t out to simply end you, he’s out to do it alone. 1v1 me, bro. Keen-eared players can even hear the Prophet of Truth telling him as much. As players come down the final ramp towards the encounter, you can hear the Chieftain calling you out. When the duel begins, if you don’t attack his surrounding pack, they won’t attack you either. It’s just you and the Chieftain… until you come out on top. Once victorious, his mourning and maniacal minions will try their best to even the score. Were it so easy… Continue reading

canonfodder-1-22-16-7b2cf4f8c5df415cb23492ff951b0703Greetings and salutations, fiction-friends! As many of you remember, we helped open the barrage of Infinity’s Armory info last week with a look at two new Mjolnir permutations, ATLAS and ACHILLES – the latter of which many of you showed particular interest in, prompting us to treat you to an even closer look than is perhaps typically standard. With that in mind, we’ve got a particularly meaty Fodder Feast for you today. From new information on upcoming maps to (very) deep dives on new weapons and armor. Let’s get started shall we?
