Hot Wheels Halo Vehicles

This isn’t named as such, but for the sake of ease for future reference, we will call this Wave 1. This wave includes the following vehicles:
• UNSC Mongoose
• Covenant Ghost
• UNSC Warthog
• Banished Wraith
• UNSC Scorpion

The cost per vehicle is $5 each. They can be found at major retailers. Mine were found at Wal Mart.

The cardback is common the vehciles.

Build-A-Figure Alpha Crawler

Cost: As this figure is made up from parts of each of the series 1 Mattel Halo figures, to get it, you either have to buy one of each figure OR you can try your luck at buying pieces through sites such as eBay. If you buy the set of figures the total cost of them is $90 for 6 figures. Each figure has one or two pieces of the Crawler, depending on which figure it is. So to nail down an actual cost to this specific figure is a little bit different. I will say it’s worth is about $15. However, the complexity by which you have to obtain the individual pieces makes this more valuable. So I put that amount at around $40.

FIrst up, you have to have all the parts. Here I’ve laid them out to show them in reference as to how they are assembled (top left). Subsequent steps at assemble show how the Crawler comes together. It’s not difficult to attach parts. However, be sure to get them put on correctly. I at first mistakingly put the rear legs on backwards….

Covenant Energy Sword

Technical Specifications:
Special Actions: Button and Motion activated sounds.
Requires: 3 AAA (they are included within the sword)
Cost: $60
Availability: GameStop I’m not sure if this is at any other store, as of this writing. I’ve not seen nor heard of it anywhere else. If you have, please let me know. (Not including eBay)

The sword flashes blue when ‘lit’. For those with epilepsy or if you have this around people with epilepsy, please do not light up.

The sword is packaged well, within a walled off box, though the front is open for anyone to ‘test’ the electronics. Keep this in mind as the batteries are included, but may run down quickly, depending on how many people have tried it before you. (I also suggest cleaning off the toy first too, when you first get it, since this is accessible to the public and you don’t know what germs they may carry.

I think maybe because the color red is my favorite, this figure looks better than all the other ones in the same packaging from Mattel. Regardless, it has the same big window on the front that allows you to see what all is included within. The Air Assault Spartan is one of two UNSC non-character figures in this first series from Mattel.

As with all the other figures in this series, the Air Assault Spartan is shown prominently through the large window on the front of the box. The back shows the figure without any armor, as well as the build-a-figure Crawler. (I will have a seperate review for the Crawler once I’ve completed the regular figures from this series. This is the first we’ve seen of Linda in action figure form. As with the Master Chief figures I previously reviewed, the box art is good. The large window display on the front of the box shows the figure, armor pieces, and accessories nicely. On the back of the box, you see the rest of the figures in the series as well as the completedn Alpha Crawler. Linda comes with the head of the crawler. Of note, there are TWO other figures in series one Mattel halo figures not pictured.

So here we have it. Mattel picked up the license that McFarlane left. And I have ot say, from what I’ve seen so far, I’m pretty happy with it.

The package design is good. Plenty of Forerunner graphics all over it. A large window on the front of the box allows you to see the contents quite well. The back of the box shows you the figure with none of it’s armor on. As well, it shows the other figures in this series. Something NEW to Halo action figure collecting is the “build-a-figure” theme. This is something that has been happening with other franchise line for quite some time now. I’m very happy to see it come to Halo. In this series, if you buy one each of the figures, you will have a piece from each that when put together will make a Promethean Crawler! Continue reading →
