Split Screen to be in ALL future Halo FPS games!

Today during 343’s segment at the DICE 2017 summit, Bonnie Ross, 343 Studio Head, stated during a very sincere moment that all Halo FPS games going forward would have Split-Screen.

Before that, she reiterated 343’s learning experience from the failed launch of HMCC as well as not including split-screen in Halo 5.

This is great news!

Atriox Halo Wars Pixel Art Billboard!

I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could make a billboard for Halo Wars 2 using Atriox’s face. Given that we are limited in pieces in Halo 5’s Forge, I knew ahead of time that this was going to look pixelated at the end. So I used my math skills to determine how big the pieces needed to be to relatively fill a Billboard piece in Forge, then went to work in Photoshop creating the necessary pixels turn greenscreen pieces.

I took this reddish image of Atriox: hw2-atrioxblogbanner-6a261a742ef643d6bd74cca6e7534620

Blew it up so that it was mostly his face and some of his shoulder armor.

I posterized this so as to give me just 8 colors.

From there, I broke it down to large squares that when translated to Forge pieces would be equivalent to 2X2 greenscreen pieces. Pixelated Atriox Continue reading

343 Team Spotlight: Simon Gordon

The following is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

By Grim

This week’s spotlight shines bright on the Halowaypoint team and software developer Simon Gordon who has been hard at work bringing the Halo Wars 2 companion experience to life on the web.

Hey Simon, welcome to the Team Spotlight! To kick things off, can you tell us a little about yourself? What’s your current role with 343?
Simon Gordon: I am a software developer on HaloWaypoint.com. My main focus has generally been to work with other internal teams on showing stats and delivering an out-of-game companion experience for the Halo games.

How long have you been with the team? What prompted you to join 343?
SG: I have been on the 343 team for three and a half years. My wife and I moved to Seattle and while I was looking for a job, I heard about a job positing at 343 for a web developer. Having just worked on developing a website, I figured it was a natural fit.

What’s your background prior to joining 343?
SG: I earned a Bachler of Science in Computer Science at Washington State University. I had an internship while at college and several years of job experience before applying for the job at 343. Continue reading

Halo Wars 2 Blitz Beta Follow-Up

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

BLITZ BETA FOLLOW-UP

In the wake of the Blitz Beta many of you have had a variety of questions about Halo Wars 2 and what to expect when the game launches. I rounded up a number of queries from r/HaloWars and sent them over to the Halo Wars 2 team (both Creative Assembly and 343) to help us get some answers:

Are you happy with team colours at present? Some of us found it challenging to remember which units are friend or foe in the betas.
Great feedback! The clarity and readability of the battle is really important to us so we’ll be monitoring and reviewing players’ experiences from release and look for ways to improve the player’s understanding of the team colors in future

HFFL: For me it was easy to tell the difference between one side or the other. Where the colors blurred were within each side. Orange looked too close to red on one end and then yellow on the other. The green I sometimes mixed up with the lighter blue. This caused me to try and move troops that weren’t mine. I’d get frustrated thinking the Beta wasn’t working right. Then I’d realize my error. Problem is, by the time that was realized, it often meant I was on the losing side of a match. So yes, I hope the colors are better defined. One issue though is that many of the toys are already based off of those colors. So we’ll have to wait and see how this is addressed. Continue reading

Halo Wars 2 Trailers!

Just a couple of days ago, 343 released these final trailers for Halo Wars 2. The first two are hilarious! The last being the actual one for the game.

Which one of those two is your favorite? For me the armrest just edges out the sale. FULL TONGUE! LOL

Now if that video doesn’t get you hyped!!!!

Official Halo Wars 2 Posters!

Microsoft commisioned three artists to make Halo Wars 2 posters. 2 each to each artist, one of a UNSC leader and the other a Banished leader.

These first two were created by Kevin Tong.HW2 Poster CutterHW2 Poster Atriox

The following two were created by Grzegorz ‘Gabz’ Domaradzki.HW2 Poster AndersHW2 Poster Shipmaster

And the last two were made by Craig Drake.HW2 Poster DecimusHW2 Poster Isabel

Which one do you like the best?

I think the middles pairing of Anders and the Shipmaster are fantastic! Use of a limited color palette with the striking reds and oranges really brings out the ‘WARS’ aspect of the posted.

No details yet on how these can be obtained. However, I’m told that they will be available at retail in some form. If that’s as a bonus at a Microsoft store or as individuals you can buy, I do not yet know. Once I do know though, you can bet I’ll post it here!

Halo Wars 2 Waypoint and Halo App Features!

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

By GrimBrotherOnehw2-atrioxblogbanner-6a261a742ef643d6bd74cca6e7534620

Halo Wars 2 is nigh upon us, once again ushering in a very unique way to experience the Halo universe. With the Real Time Strategy genre comes not only a different approach to playing the game, but also a different approach to improving your performance. Halo fans of all skill levels are certainly no strangers to self-evaluation, whether it’s giving a quick check at their PGCR in between matches, or spending an inordinate amount of time examining and analyzing their stats online looking for an extra edge.

Sitting not too far away from yours truly is a small, but scrappy team of feature freaks – engineers who daily unleash their particular brand of genius in a tireless pursuit to deliver helpful and powerful web and application-based tools for players to enhance their Halo experience. In order to evangelize on behalf of their all-too-humble efforts, I caught up with these elusive statistic savants to help paint a picture of some of the new features awaiting players on Waypoint and the Halo app when Halo Wars 2 launches on Feb. 21.
