Will the next Halo game have new armor for Master Chief?

This was a topic of conversation I got involved with. Will there be new armor or the same Halo 4 armor for Chief in the next (chronologic) Halo game?

By not showing Chief in his full armor and only the helmet, his hand and a little forearm in the trailer for Halo XBOX One, it allows 343 to go in either direction. Either keep the armor from Halo 4 or all new armor sans helmet. As for the helmet being damaged, that could be from much later in the game (if anything from the trailer will actually be in the next game).

I’m hoping for some new armor, though I’ve grown a little attached to the armor he has in Halo 4.

The fact that his armor is taken off at the end of Halo 4’s campaign also allows 343 to go either way. Give him back his armor or update him with new. I’d think that the Infinity would have new armor for Chief.

It’s certainly fun to speculate on.

So do you folks want to see new armor or are you fine if 343 sticks with the armor from Halo 4?

  1. hmm, well for me the halo 2 and 3 armor was kinda “simple”, if you know what i mean. it didn’t have that much complexity. but when they moved to the Mark VI 2.0 armor, it really gave chief the heroic complex armor he needed. i think it would take a while for me to get use to a new armor, because master chief’s helmet is basically the symbol for halo.

  2. I had some issue with Master Chief’s armor in Halo 4. It is so different from what was in Halo 3 with no story on why the change. It was done for aesthetic purposes only. However, from a design standpoint I do like it and am a big fan of the helmet.

If there would be a change, I could actually see it reverting back to the Mark VI armor. If he has gone rogue it could be possible that he has to use older equipment.

    Just a thought.

    • The main reason why I can’t see him going back to his previous Mark VI is 343’s control over the franchise now. They did a LOT to separate themselves from Bungie’s designs. While his original Mark VI is iconic to we longer term fans, I just can’t see 343 doing that.

  3. A possible reason for Master Chiefs armour change in between Halo 3 and Halo 4 can be found in the Kilo-5 book trilogy, specifically in The Thursday War. Naomi’s Mjolnir has nano-tech, which automatically upgrades, improves, and even repairs the armour during downtime. This could have possibly been incorporated into Master Chief’s armour at somepoint as well. With years of cyro downtime, and an AI like Cortana guiding upgrades, it could lead to some pretty drastic changes.

On to the main point, I do kind of hope his armour will change. There are so many possibilities. Upgrades from the armour bay, upgraded sensors….or if he has gone rogue, who knows what tech he may have scavenged from forgotten colonies, hidden armories, or possibly even forerunner tech that can be adapted.

    • I get the whole nano tech thing. That doesn’t really explain the drastic change in the LOOK of the armor. Those nanites? would have to change the armor at a molecular level. I just don’t like having to explain away things when the caretakers should explain it in a reasonable manner. I get the same feeling with the nano tech theory that I do with midichlorians from Star Wars.

As for finding armor/upgrades/tech, that’s being passed around as a rumor. One that I hope DOES become true. I’d love to have the campaign be open world. You choose which mission to go on. Find the right upgrades/armor/tech to help in tat mission as well as complete other missions.
