HFFL’s 2nd Anniversary LANstravaganza / Charity fundraiser reminder

Hello folks. Just wanted to give you all a reminder of the upcoming LAN party I’ll be hosting on August 16 at my home in Pittsburgh, PA.

If you’re interested in knowing some of the particulars that will happen during the party, please check out the LAN page HERE. There will be more details posted there as they become available.

I want to make special notice of the Charity / LAN / Domain Fundraising effort in this article.

HFFL is raising money for the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, in conjuction with raising money for the LAN and Domain renewal. As to why this is a combined fundraiser, allow me to explain.

At this time, I’m unfortunately unemployed, so money is pretty tight. I still wanted to be able to have the annual LAN. The only way I could think of that could possibly raise the funds necessary was to have a fundraiser that would also benefit a charity. Yes, I could have instituted a membership fee, but that is something I rail against and will NEVER do with HFFL. As a fan I think it’s wrong to charge other fans. So instead, I’m asking for a donation for this fundraiser. It’s not mandatory. Just donate whatever you want. No worries if you don’t have extra funds to do so. As I stated, I’m pretty tight on funds myself, so I understand.

As for how the funds will be divided, let me state that I’m not in this for profit. HFFL needs a little more than $750 for the LAN itself and slightly more than $250 for the renewal of the domain. So what I’m doing is an even split up to $2,000 raised, where the Autism Society of Pittsburgh gets 50% of the funds and HFFL gets 50%. Any among over that initial $2,000 will go 100% to the charity.

Should I fall short of the targeted goal of $2,000, still 50% will go to the charity. The difference needed for the LAN will have to be passed on to the Attendees. That’s something I’m hoping to avoid as I don’t want this to be cost prohibitive for anyone.

Oh, on that note for anyone considering coming and you’re out of the area (of Pittsburgh), one of my readers/gaming friends has worked out a deal through the hotel he works for, for a good rate on their rooms for the LAN.

So far $400 has been raised (I need to update the background graphic to reflect that, as of this writing). So there is still a bit of a way to go to reach the goal.

I’ve mentioned it before that if everyone from just ONE day of the 365 days in the year donated $1, I’d have more than enough to cover the LAN/Domain renewal and go over the goal for funds to help the charity as well.

So please consider donating to HFFL for a worthy cause. I chose this charity in honor of Mega Brands, makers of Halo Mega Bloks, due to their close association with their local Autism Speaks chapter.

To donate, go to the main page and click the paypal donate button. Any funds donated between now and Aug 16 (day of the LAN) will automatically be considered as part of the fundraiser, so no need to make special note of that in your donation.

I hope that you have found HFFL worthy enough for a donation, any and every bit helps.

Thanks and most sincerely,
-Sal
