Latest HMCC Matchmaking updates for 11-13-14

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint (times are PST):

11.13 1:28PM Update We are aware that while some users are reporting improved Matchmaking experiences, many users have not seen an improvement. As a result, we are temporarily moving to a limited playlist layout that will allow for players to find games faster. We’ll temporarily be removing the following playlists:

  • Team Hardcore
  • Rumble Pit
  • Halo 4
  • SWAT (rotational)

The updated playlist layout will be:

  • Team Halo 2: Anniversary
  • Halo Championship Series
  • Team Slayer
  • Big Team Battle
  • Halo 2 Classic
  • Halo 3

This concentrated playlist layout will allow players to get into matches faster, and improve overall match times. While we anticipate that concentrating our players into fewer playlists will have an effect on match times, it will not solve all Matchmaking issues. We are currently investigating CUs and server side tweaks over the next week to address matchmaking issues. To read more, see our latest update here: Additionally, we have a Content Update going live tomorrow that will address fixes for scoring and stats. This update does not include in-progress Matchmaking fixes, outside of a minor fix for team skill matching. The patch notes from this update will be posted tomorrow morning when the update goes live.

Lastly, back-end data is showing that the majority of successful Matchmaking matches are found within 2-4 minutes of searching. When searching, if you do not find a match within 5 minutes, please return to lobby and restart the search, as this will reset the search parameters and increase the likelihood of finding a match within the aforementioned range. Thank you for your continued patience. We will continue to post regular updates as we work to deliver fixes.–11.13.14 9:30 AM UpdateWe are aware that last night’s server side update has improved Matchmaking times for some users, while others are still seeing longer than expected times. We continue to investigate and will have a detailed update coming later this morning PST.

HFFL: It’s good to see that they are feverishly working to fix the issues. I haven’t gotten a match in yet. I tried last night, but after about 10 minutes gave up. I’ll keep enjoying the campaigns and H2A Forge for now.

  1. I have not touched the game yet and when I do will be running the campaigns first, so I don’t see myself in matchmaking for a week or so. However, I do have to wonder how this will affect the population in general. When finally fixed will people jump back to it or will they stay away until the Halo 5 Multiplayer beta? Will this be the last straw for some that will leave Halo?

It is my hope that 343 gets everything fixed in short order and we are blown away by how well it does work. However the one thing that I see as unavoidable is a serious look at 343 and their processes and procedures. They have delivered Halo 4 and Spartan Assault with little issues, but to have a huge part of a game fail like this? They will need to fix things ASAP.

    • In their defense, this was quite an undertaking. Though yes, they did drop the ball a bit on the launch. Halo 4 launch didn’t have such issues, but the game itself wasn’t received well by competitive type fans. I really hope Halo 5 Guardians (the full release) goes well. I am a little concerned for the skew towards competitive gaming. I don’t mind that it’s there. However, seeing 343’s 180° turn around form being about the casual player to the competitive, well, they are STILL alienating some portion of Halo fans. I want to see H5G have BOTH casual and competitive play. And by casual, I do NOT mean just Campaign. Ranked and Social playlists ala Halo 3 was to me the BEST way to achieve this in matchmaking.

  2. I don’t know what’s going on in the games industry these days but it seems like every major triple A game launches with issues. So its not just 343 but its still not an excuse for them to launch this game(s) with only half of it working especially considering that multiplayer is a big part of Halo.
