HMCC has a 50 custom map/gametype limit for your saves

Just as the title states, the HMCC has a limit to the amount of custom maps and game types you can save. It’s only 50…FIFTY. Okay, while this may seem like a lot, for those of us who forge a bit, this is VERY limiting. I’ve already got a dozen saved. At this rate, I’ll run out of room some time in December.

I found this out via a link on twitter from my friend AddiCt3d 2CHa0s. The link goes to the Halo Waypoint forum where the original poster, o Nondual o makes this limiting feature known to us.

Below is his post from Halo Waypoint:

I know the game has a lot of problems right now, and there are more pressing concerns. MCC does have the potential to be amazing. But I feel like this is going to become more and more of an issue very shortly for a lot of gamers. We need to address this now.

In MCC we can only have 50 custom maps and 50 game type variants total for all four Halo games. This is brutally limiting. Here’s a pic of exactly what I’m talking about:

50 map-game limit

I host custom games for my friends and we have an insane amount of fun. We love playing all sorts of different maps and gametypes, and I love saving the best stuff so we can replay it. I also make a ton of content myself. I have several ideas for most of the included H2A, H3 and H4 maps. Most ideas require their own map variant. And that’s what, 80+ forgeable maps spread across the different Halos? And that’s not even getting into forged maps made from scratch.

I realize a lot of players will never hit these limits, but I am going to hit them in probably 2 weeks. This is going to have a very negative effect on my friends and I, and most people who really enjoy custom games and forging.

In Halo 3 we could have a hundred custom content items per storage device. And I had a couple memory cards full of maps and gametypes and was able to make things work with that by switching storage devices in game. In Halo Reach and Halo 4 we could have an unlimited amount of maps and gametypes. A 50 item limitc is a HUGE step backwards.

This is kind of like buying a MP3 player that is $400 dollars and you can only have 50 songs on it. And there’s no reason for the limit. It will only take up 2% of the devices storage. I’m sorry but it’s just ridiculous.

How hard would it be just to increase this number?! Why are we limited?! Can anyone think of any ways around this? I’ve already tried putting maps in my shared files, but that doesn’t work because I have to download the files first in order to play them.

I need at least 200 slots for maps and gametypes. At least 500 slots for each would be ideal. But honestly no limit would be best so that we never even have to think about it.

Additionally there’s a couple of other issues that make custom games less enjoyable. We’re not able to switch party lead to someone else (for example if someone has a map they want to load up.) And while in game it’s not possible to switch teams, making it impossible to balance teams while in game. Also it’s not possible to limit the party size. This is crucial for doing smaller tests and avoiding the awkwardness of having to ask people to leave.

It just feels like custom games were overlooked, or handled by someone who didn’t really understand everything needed to make them work smoothly. We used to have these options!

And one last thing I’ll throw in that would be really nice to see added is the ability for the person in charge of the party to go and change peoples team themselves.

Please let me know below if any of these things will be an issue for you or someone you know. Or if you even understand why this will be a problem for a lot of people. We need to make 343 aware that needs to be fixed right along with all the other stuff in what is hopefully a patch coming very soon.

HFFL: I have to agree with him on most of his point. It’s VERY limiting to those of us who forge and host custom game nights. I wonder if there are any plans to increase this before Halo 5 Guardians comes out?

One thing to note though, this isn’t for 4 games. It’s for two games and 6 maps from a third. Those would be Halo’s 3 and 4, plus Halo 2 Anniversary, respectively.

Still, I totally get what he’s saying here.

  1. There’s a limit? O_O I admit this news doesn’t really bother me too much seeing as I don’t forge and only occasionally mess around with it but I’m surprised that there’s LESS features in this remastering of the games than before. I will continue to support 343 but I am losing some faith in them with this botched launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
