The Halo Channel’s “The Sprint” series

The Sprint Logo

I’ve written  little bit about this a few days ago. This series is 6 episodes long. We’re up to episode 5. All episodes can be watched via the Halo Channel on your XBOX One. If you don’t have the One, hopefully soon all of these episodes will be uploaded to 343’s Youtube Channel.

In the mean time, here is some info you may have missed out on.

This series gives you a look into the development/design process of Halo. The focus here is on multiplayer maps. From the first episode on, we see the map “Truth” being played on in a polygon setting with no art applied to it. Many 343 folks are present in the series.

The multiplayer map “Truth” itself a remake of Midship, will be ‘remixed’ into a new map called “Regret”. This map has many of the elements of Truth. However, it’s placement is on a Halo. The ship has been grounded. It has decayed and had some vegetation growing over it.

The map that we saw first (where the floor looked very blue, is called “Crossfire”. This map is used to showcase 343’s new game type called ‘Breakout’ which is a round based slayer game in which you only have ONE life per round. The team that slays the other team gets a point, per round. IN one of the episodes I heard the announcer say round 6. Not sure how many rounds will make it into the beta and/or the full game. We’ll see some of this in the beta though.

UNSC Hydra

We also get a brief look at a new weapon to be introduced. The “Hydra”. The look of this is a mix of a rocket launcher and the incineration cannon form Halo 4. The rockets within are homing. So I’m taking Hydra to mean: “High Yield Directed Rocket Accelerator”.

There is more to see and learn, so have a seat in front of your One and enjoy! The last episode comes out tomorrow.

  1. When I read that it shot out homing missiles, I thought it sounded overpowered but then I remembered the Plasma Launcher from Halo: Reach and that…wasn’t a very good weapon so this might be balanced. And it seems to me it’s more of a grenade launcher than a rocket launcher because of its size and how its held. Isn’t there also a new rocket launcher in Halo 5: Guardians?

    • The rocket launcher for Halo 5 Guardians is redesigned. I’ve seen a pic that show it only having ONE launch tube instead of the traditional two. That’s going to change the weapon and it’s effectiveness for sure.

      • Yeah. I was confused about that. It’s a shame that it was redesigned with one launch tube though. I always thought that the two launch tubes Halo’s rocket launcher had set it apart from every other rocket launcher and made it unique.
