Halo Mega Bloks Fall Line-up

Discovered earlier today by Halo Mega Bloks fan ‘FoolishBakery’, we now have a list of proposed sets for Fall 2015. I say ‘proposed’ because as this information has not been officially released by Mega Bloks, we can not call this anything but rumor at this point.

What you see below are some interesting names for the sets. Looks like we’re getting some NEW vehicles in Halo 5.

Here’s the list, plus a graphic that was pulled from ToyWiz that shows their listing of the sets:

• Ganymede ($12.99)
• UNSC Gungoose ($12.99)
• Bacchus ($24.99)
• UNSC Attack Gausshog ($29.99)
• NMPD Warthog ($34.99)
• Pegasus ($47.99)
• Scylla ($59.99)
• Smuggler Intercept ($59.99)
• UNSC Vulture Gunship ($89.99)

The only thing not on the list above is the mention of the ‘Charlie’ series of minifigures at bottom of the graphic above.

Now let’s go over these sets individually. First, take note of the mythological names below, Ganymede, Bacchus, Pegasus, and Scylla. Note none of those has a ‘UNSC’ moniker attached to them. This doesn’t mean they are not UNSC. However, I’m inclined to think they might be Forerunner in origin. Why? The reference of ‘Prometheans’ in Halo 4 was (as even Dr. Halsey points out) a reference to Prometheus. This another Greek mythological being.

So does this mean we’ll be getting possible 4 Forerunner ships??

I’ll be the first to admit I’m wrong here if so, but for now, let’s have some fun with this.

Ganymede – Ganymede was in Greek mythology believed to be the son of Tros for whom the city name of ‘Troy’ was named after. He is reference by Homer (not Simpson…) as the most beautiful among all mortals. It’s said that Ganymede was abducted by Zeus to serve as cup bearer in Olympus.

In scientific terms, Ganymede is a moon of Jupiter and the largest moon in our solar system.

So how might this be reference in Halo? Is it a ship/vehicle? Perhaps a UNSC outpost? Or might it be Forerunner? If we do indeed go by the notion of this being Forerunner in origin, then what kind of ship might it be? Given Ganymede’s story in Greek mythology, I’d make a guess as to this being either a shuttle or small attack craft. Ganymede is not a powerful ‘god’, but he is a cup bearer. Shuttles are too exciting for Halo, so this is why I’m leaning towards a small attack craft. This also, due to the cost of the set being small at $12.99.

UNSC Gungoose – This one’s pretty simple. We’re getting the Gungoose form Halo 2 Anniversary.

Bacchus – Another one of the mythological references. Bacchus is the Roman name for Dionysus. Dionysus is the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theatre and religious ecstasy in Greek mythology. Any one of those stand out to you? Ritual Madness does for me…Hmm, might this possible be what could bring Cortana back AND to stability? Or perhaps something else that is Forerunner in nature that has gone rampant itself? The Roman version of Bacchus states the he was a divine communicant between the living and the dead. Another reason why I’m inclined to think this has to do with Cortana.

I can’t see this being a vehicle by the name given. This leads me to think it’s a Forerunner construct of some sort. Much bigger than 343 Guilty Spark, but no where near as big as the winged construct that was seen in the Halo5 E3 2013 trailer. With a price of $25, it’s not going to be too big.

UNSC Attack Gausshog – Since we just got an electronic one last year, I’m curious if this one will be electronic. I do hope it’s green this time around as that is the prevalent color for Warthogs.
NMPD Warthog – Okay, I’ll buy this one. I found the NMPD Hornet to be pretty nifty. Though I do hope this leads to the one ACTUAL in-game NMPD vehicle, that being the NMPD Pelican…

Pegasus – The third in the mythological references, most of you will know that Pegasus is the white winged horse of Greek mythology. With the price of this being $47.99, I see this as being a heavy attack craft. Something on the order of the Sabre from Halo Reach or Broadsword from Halo 4. However, being in Forerunner form. Will it be all white and winged? Well, that would make sense.

Scylla – The last of the mythological reference, Scylla is the most unusual of them. Areference by Encyclopedia Brittanica says that Scylla was a supernatural creature, with 12 feet and 6 heads on long, snaky necks, each head having a triple row of sharklike teeth, while her loins were girt with the heads of baying dogs.

A wiki reference states this: Scylla was a monster that lived on one side of a narrow channel of water, opposite its counterpart Charybdis. The two sides of the strait were within an arrow’s range of each other—so close that sailors attempting to avoid Charybdis would pass too close to Scylla and vice versa.

Traditionally the strait has been associated with the Strait of Messina between Italy and Sicily. The idiom “between Scylla and Charybdis” has come to mean being between two dangers, choosing either of which brings harm.

That last line made me wonder if this is also where the line ‘being stuck between a rock and a hard place’ comes from? I looked it up and dang, what do you know, this is indeed believed to be what the phrase is referencing.

Going on that then, and given it’s monstrous look I’m going to make TWO guesses here. If it’s Forerunner in nature, then this could possibly be that winged construct. It is standing in the way of Master Chief from the E3 2013 trailer. Though the description doesn’t match.

So…what else could it mean then? Might it possibly be a Gravemind??? Think of it, the description certainly would fit better here. The one thing about this though is that it’s female. We haven’t heard of female flood. Doesn’t mean they do not exist though. Could this possibly be Cortana in another form? Were her remnants slipspaced elsewhere, perhaps another Halo or Shield World or other Forerunner installation? And could those remnants have accessed flood there, taking them over?

Whew, okay, I know that is a bit out there… So I’ll go with the simple guess of it being that winged construct. Given the $59.99 price, meaning the set should be around 600+ pieces, that makes sense.

Smuggler Intercept – This to me seems like a civilian ship. Could it be the one from Halo Nightfall? Maybe. Though that ship wasn’t all that exciting and Nightfall wasn’t swooned upon like the series Forward Unto Dawn was. In any event, if it’s not a ship, then it’s a playset with several minifigures. But who’s doing the intercept? UNSC? Covenant? Both? Could this be the Lich with Spartan Locke and his team, along with the new armored Arbiter and his Elites? Man, I hope so. I really want that ship and mini figures. Perhaps that skewing my thoughts on this set though…

Finally we come to one set that has been asked for by many Halo Mega Bloks fans for awhile now.
UNSC Vulture Gunship – This large attack ship was seen in Halo Wars. Think of it as an amped up Pelican in terms of offensive, destructive capability.

Here’s a graphic from the Halo Wars website:PORTFOLIO_VULTURE_LAYOUT_01

You can see how it’s similar to a Pelican in some ways, but much more armored and weaponized.

Halo Mega Bloks renowned customizer, Goodwill Hunter (whom I interviewed on the blog some time back) made a custom of this vehicle: unscvultureviews

If the stock Mega Bloks ship looks like this one (or better), we’re in for quite a treat!

The good news is, if these are being shown at New York Toy Fair, I should be able to snap some pics of the sets and show them here on the blog. So stay tuned!!!

  1. If this listing is correct, then I’m pretty sure the sets with Greek names will be Forerunner related. UNSC vehicles are named after animals and I doubt that 343i will change that. Yes, the UNSC has the Cyclops but that is an outlier. Halo 5 is coming this year and we can all expect to delve into more Forerunner stuff so it would make sense to make sets featuring Forerunner tech.

  2. I’m excited to see what these turn out to be. Hopefully you get to see them at the NYTF.

    • Yes, hopefully. Because, if I see them, then YOU see them. (Unless I’m not permitted to take pics)

  3. I know it doesn’t fit the name, but I’m also wondering if Ganymede might be a Halo 4 set. I’m thinking the AA guns you have to disable would be a nice size for the $12 price point.

    • Hmm, interesting. Though, I do have to think that MB is focusing more on Halo 5, especially with that mythological naming. That’s coming from 343. In ten days we may know. Here’s hoping they show this stuff at NYTF. If not, I’ll ask them if at least they can tell me if they are Forerunner, UNSC, Covie or something else in nature. Hopefully they can at least let me in on that.

  4. Hmmmm, intersting speculation you got going there. I would LOVE some forerunner vehicles! Actually, the name “pegasus” reminded me of the forerunner construct in the trailer, even though for that price it would be severely undersized anyway.

    Can’t wait! 🙂

    • That was my thought initially too. But yeah, when I saw the price in correspondence to the set, I knew it couldn’t be the Forerunner Construct. That would be a huge disappointment if it were. That thing has to be a good 400-600 pieces easily.

  5. With the NMPD warthog being $35, I hope that it includes an enemy vehicle or turret of some sort.
