Halo Toy Review: Mega Bloks Sierra Squad multipack

Breaking from the norm here for a minute. I need to thank one of my fellow local Halo fans. He got this and another multipack set for me. I didn’t ask him, so it was a surprise. He said the store was having a sale, saw that I hadn’t reviewed these on the site yet and knows of the plumbing issues at my home that are causing havoc on our finances, so he picked them up for me. That I know of there isn’t any sales going on at the major stores, so I take it that he is just being very nice. If there is a sale (and he didn’t say what store he got these from), well, be on the lookout. Anyway, a HUGE thanks Dave. I’m holding his last name confidential as that’s his personal business. Bro, I owe you, TWO! THANKS!!!

Okay, on with the review!

The box art is always nice. On the front is a window to show the new paint scheme of one of the marines. I’ll get to this later.

On the back of the box, there are good descriptions of the marines as well as graphics showing the weapons inside.

The contents of the box.

MB UNSC Sierra Squad sorted
All the pieces sorted out. Within the larger bag from the contents pic, there is a smaller bag of parts, along with 4 very small packets, each with a marine figure.

The small base starts to come together. MB UNSC Sierra Squad base steps
I’m totally for the baseplate pieces. I can always use more of those!!! And the girders are excellent for building custom bases!

The turret is a very nice design. Double Machine guns that are bullet fed. Cool!MB UNSC Sierra Squad turret steps

Here you see the turret attached. The insert pic shows how the turret is attached. There is a 1X3 plate that has holes through the studs that allow for the pin on the turret base to attach to it. This allows the turret to pivot up and down, while the base part of the turret spins 360°. Pretty awesome! Those marines will have some protection from Covies!MB UNSC Sierra Squad turret steps 2

Here the base itself is complete. Not the 3 ‘ferns’, two of which are incorporated into a small tree. The flag is exceptional in that this is a rare time we get a flag with the UNSC symbol on it! MB UNSC Sierra Squad base complete

Below are the 5 figures included with the set.MB UNSC Sierra Squad Figures
As I’ve already reviewed the standard marines (both at left), and the marine officer (middle) HERE (scroll down a ways), I’m only going to show the views of the newly painted marine with the green visor.MB UNSC Sierra Squad Alt Marine
This particular marine isn’t actually in the campaign, though this is close. There is a grey helmeted marine, though he doesn’t have a green visor, but gold or no visor. If I have to nitpick, this is the only thing about this set. But really, I’m not nitpicking, it’s a cool figure!

There are plenty of accessories and weapons to go around. Each marine gets a backpack with one of them getting the radio backpack. With 9 weapons, every marine gets 2 guns, except one of them. I like that the weapon crate is that nice dark green.MB UNSC Sierra Squad Accessories

Also included are 5 stands for the figures.MB UNSC Sierra Squad stands

And lastly, the whole set with figs and base. Yeah, two marines are dual wielding…MB UNSC Sierra Squad FIN

Summary: The set is a quick build. The colors of the base and marines go well together. This is an army builders dream!!!

Overall Rating: I give this set 10 out for 10 medals. This set has an GREAT value at $15. Considering individual figs can cost between $3-3.50, that already is a $15-17.50 value. This doesn’t include the base, weapon crate, flag and half of the weapons.

I do not give out too many 10s anymore, but this set really deserves it! I expect this particular multifigure set to sell VERY well, so buy it when you see it if you even think you might be interested.

This is one set, if I could afford to, I’d buy everyone I see. But I’ll settle for what I have…for now.

Do I recommend it?  YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!!!

If you have any questions about this set that I didn’t cover in the review, please do not hesitate to ask me. Either reply below or e-mail me at [email protected]

  1. I really REALLY want to get this set. I want multiples of it. I want to have a whole Battalion of Marines….but I cannot bring myself to pay the $21.97 that Wal-Mart Canada is charging for the fireteams now.

    • Ouch! Yeah, that’s a lot for those sets. It’s not as god as $15 of course. But not too far off what the value is. I’d say it’s value with everything included, at retail, is $19 (US).

  2. Ooooooooo, mega bloks review………..

Anyway, this is a really cool set! Definitely the best battle pack IMO. This set is a multibuy for sure, so i’ll take seven! 😀

I like that turret; it has its own kind of charm. And the fact that it comes with stands is always a plus.

So great review Sal, like always! And thanks for making this review possible Dave. Now here’s my address………

    I jest! I jest!

  3. I got this one recently and I was very happy with it. I think it is good to see a troop pack that focuses on marines for a change. It’s also nice that this particular bunch of marines goes well with the ones included with the new elephant, so you can have a full crew.

    • Indeed! While I enjoy Spartans, they are supposed to be rare. When I first heard of this Marine set, I was overjoyed. It was a long time in coming. I hope there is an ODST multipack in the future too. Perhaps the squad from the game?

      • I would like to see the team from Halo 3: ODST. I would also like to see some generic units. Maybe a team of Bullfrogs with jet packs? Maybe a couple in Recon armor that are not specifically Dare?

  4. I love that idea but it would also be nice to get a full noble team for anyone who didn’t get the other sets.

    • I whole heartedly agree. This was one of the things I mentioned to Mega when I was at New York Toy Fair a couple of weeks back.

  5. Would anyone else love a set with the halo 3 Odst squad complete with drop pods

    • Yep, I even mentioned as such. ODSTs are still in demand and to have the full squad from Halo 3: ODST would be awesome!
