Halo Toy Review: Mega Bloks Fireteam Eagle

Breaking from the norm here for a minute. I need to thank one of my fellow local Halo fans. He got this and the Sierra Squad sets for me. It was a surprise. He said the store was having a sale, saw that I hadn’t reviewed these on the site yet and knows of the plumbing issues at my home that are causing havoc on our finances, so he picked them up for me. That I know of there isn’t any sales going on at the major stores, so I take it that he is just being very nice. A HUGE thanks Dave. I’m holding his last name confidential as that’s his personal business. Bro, I owe you, TWO!    THANKS!!!

Okay, on with the review!

Here’s everything sorted out. Uh-OH…one of the figures (top left) has two of the same leg! Well, I’ll have to call up Mega to get a replacement for that. I do have the gift receipt from Dave, so hopefully, that with this toy review should be enough to get a replacement without any issues.MB FT Eagle sorted

I really like these blue translucent pieces. For one, well, the are translucent. As well though, they are decent sized flat pieces that cover a small area. When put together as they are, they make a neat little light bridge.MB FT Eagle light bridge

You build up small land pieces on either side of the bridge and connect them.MB FT Eagle light bridge 2

Simple but effective for a small scene, the flag is raised and awaits Fireteam Eagle’s Spartans.MB FT Eagle light bridge 3

Before we get to the figures, there are of course the 5 stands included for them.MB FT Eagle stands

There is also a light shield with a stand included. MB FT Eagle light shield

As for weapons, you get one each of every Promethean gun as well, 4 pulse grenades and a UNSC Jet Pack. So each fig gets a gun and 4 out of 5 get a grenade as well.MB FT Eagle weapons

Here are all five figures again. (That Soldier Spartan on the right end really needs a leg replacement…)MB FT Eagle figures
Two of the fire team shown below are then Scout and Enforcer. I really like the Enforcer helmet. The only thing about the helmets with this set for me that I didn’t like was the color of the visor. I understand white goes with the theme of a bald eagle have a white head, but really, I’d rather have had those visors be black or the standard gold color. The white seems to throw them off a little to me. What do you think?MB FT Eagle Scout-Enf

Next of the figures are the Aviator and Oceanic Spartans.MB FT Eagle Avi-Orb

Last of the bunch is the ill-fated double right legged Soldier. Don’t worry buddy, we’ll get you fixed up soon and you’ll be fit for battle!MB FT Eagle Soldier

And finally the team with the base. The Aviator is suspended in midair via the clear clip peg , attached at an angle to the tall clear rod. The clip at the other end has been inserted into the bottom of the jet pack, thus giving the figure the look of being in forward flight.MB FT Eagle FIN

Summary: The set is a quick build. Normally I’m not a fan of certain colors with the Spartans, however, since I’m a Pittsburgh native sand fan of all the sports teams here, and they wear this color yellow with black, well…this was a no brainer set for me. The light bridge parts as nice to have again. We saw them last in the Snowbound playset.

Overall Rating: I give this set 9 out for 10 medals. This set has good value. 5 figures areayd is t the $15 price point or better. Adding in the pieces of land, the light bridge, light shield and flag just add that much more to it.

So why did I give this a 9 instead of a 10?
• The error figure leg aside, I’m not a fan of the visor color. This is of course a personal matter of taste. If you like it, then you’ll enjoy it even more than I already do. Other than that, then figure selection is good, the amount of weapons and accessories is very good and again, I like the light bridge pieces.

Do I recommend it?  Yes. Be it for the Spartans, or the added set pieces. This is a good set. As well, the color of the armor closely matched that of Spartan Davis that came in an earlier battle pack.

If you have any questions about this set that I didn’t cover in the review, please do not hesitate to ask me. Either reply below or e-mail me at [email protected]

  1. Good review Sal.

I like that hardlight bridge. I even built myself a custom one out of snowbound once!

The best part of this set IMO is the promethean weapons! And that new-mold halo 4 jetpack is very cool.

It stinks that it had to be your soldier who has the bum leg, as I think that he is the best fig in this set! And I agree with you about a different visor color, black would have complemented the yellow spartans VERY well.

All in all, a neat set. I’ll probably be picking this up sooner or later. 😀

    • Yeah, the Solider is my send fav from this set. (Enforcer is my fav) Unfortunately, since the legs are different from one Spartan to the next, I couldn’t even do a simple leg swap. 🙁
