The graphic design of the packaging has changed again. This time we getting a Master Chief on the left side advancing inward. Much of the underlying graphics are dark, while on the back display a ruddy gradient as well. This would be consistent with what is expected to be a darker story in Halo 5 Guardians.

I like this design choice. Nice to get some color back on the packaging. Don’t get me wrong, I completely enjoyed the white era graphics. But these have more appeal to me with the added color.

Everything in the set is within view of the bubble with exception to just a few minor parts hidden in one of the crates and the instruction manual.MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack contents

The pieces within a crate are shown in the light purple highlighted box. MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack crates

With exception to the weapons I gave the figures, all the rest can be easily stored in just ONE of the new style crates. I’m happy we have two of these though and I hope that trend continues. Note the 1X2 steel-blue tile. It’s there to denote which armor color the figures have. This will become more apparent for the use, when you see the Covie armor customizer sets. MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack crates2

here are all the weapons displayed that you get. A very nice assortment!MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack weapons

I wanted to further highlight the painted weapons. That needler is spot on! The Plasma pistol is fantastic. For such a small pieces, it’s got a ton of detail with that paint job. We rarely get a plasma repeater, so it’s nice that not only does this set include one, but that it’s painted as well. Great job there Mega!!

We also get a plasma turret in the set. Note that this one is two-toned, not the normal one-toned color that we get. Again, a nice choice there too.MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack turret

The Jackal included is the same as we’ve had before. This isn’t a complaint though. I’ve wanted more of this style Jackal for awhile. So, it’s GREAT to be able to get it in an inexpensive set and with another army building figure to boot!MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack Fig Jackal

That leads me to what I consider the gem of this set. The NEW articulated style Elite! Be sure and click on this pic below folks so you can see more of the detail.
The MAJOR difference between this and previous Elites are many. Not only is the armor removable, but it’s got a THIRD section to the leg!MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack Fig Elite

Here’s the armor removed from the figure. As you can see it’s not all just one color. Though it may be a little hard to see in this pic. The sculpt on the armor is fantastic!MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack Fig Elite Armor

The only downside to the new style Elite is the glaring hole in the head. Yes, I know it’s there for ease of swapping helmets, but I’d have much rather had one where you could just snap on and off the helmet without having to have that hole Though for now, there is only one instance where I can think that I would need a helmets elite. And this can be fix by putting putty in the hole that matches the skin tone. If that doesn’t work, a little paint on the putty to match will.
Also to note, the shoulder armor snaps on to the arm. I thought the little nubs at the shoulder would bother me. However, I quickly realized that yet again, with exception to showing this in reviews, my Elites is going to always have the armor on.
Lastly for the unarmored Sangheili, look at the detail of the chest! LOTS of goodness there. Mega did a fantastic job with this new style. The only other complaint I’ve heard from other fans is that the arms are a bit short. Maybe, but they are terribly so and you can fit the weapons in their hands just fine, so this is a non-issue with me.MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack Fig Elite W-O Armor

Here we see the versatility of the new articulation. This figure is free standing and took less than a minute to post this way. Really dynamic options there with the added joint in the legs!MB Covie Weapon Custom Pack ACTION

And finally, I wanted to show the elite with and without armor, next to the old style elites. Here the new style has it’s legs as fully extended as can be.
As you can see there is a SIGNIFICANT height difference and that isn’t just a good thing, that’s a GREAT thing!
Gah…the only thing is…I’m going to have to replace all of my elites now! LOLMB Covie Weapon Custom Pack comp

Summary: The set is excellent for army building, with popular figures such as the Jackal and Elite. The set comes with an array of covenant weapons suitable for just ab out any Mega Bloks Halo figure.

Overall Rating: I give this set 9 out for 10 medals. This set has great value. With two figures in the set, that accounts for $7 of the $10 price. This leaves you with $3. The big selection of weapons makes up for most of the rest. Certainly those TWO new crates make up the rest after that.

So why did I give this a 9 instead of a 10?
• The only change I would be more painted weapons…and
• That hole on the Elite’s head. It’s distracting. But if you display it with the helmet on, you and anyone else isn’t really going to notice it.

Do I recommend it?  An EMPHATIC YES! This is a great way to build up your Covenant Halo 4 styled army quickly and relatively cheaply. The new articulation and removable armor for the Elite is a MOST welcomed change and will certainly make this set a repeat buy for many a collector/kid.

If you see this set at retail, buy it immediately as I have a feeling it’s not going to stay on shelves for too long. (If you’re in my local area, you better get this or I’m likely to wipe out the store’s supply of them! LOL)

Now, you have probably noticed that I used a different setting for this and the Promethean Warriors toy review. I’m trying this out for small sets. Please let me know what you think of it. No worries if you do or do not like it. I want to know. If you prefer the previous background with the white wall and measurement grid, LMK. If you’d like to see something else altogether, let me know what you’d like to see. This is your chance to help me out.

If you have any questions about this set that I didn’t cover in the review, please do not hesitate to ask me. Either reply below or e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks for reading and let me know what you think of the review. If you get this set yourself, please let me know your thoughts on it too!

One thought on “Halo Toy Review: Mega Bloks Covenant Weapons Customizer Pack

  1. It is great to see more sets that allow fans to build up their armies. Now that we can really build up our Jackal and Elite Minor forces, Mega Bloks needs to release a Grunt squad set. Grunts are the most common enemy in the games yet we get them so sparingly in Mega Bloks Halo sets.

Anyways, this set is great and the painted weapons look fantastic. However, it would be really nice if all of the weapons were painted instead of just 3.
