A great action shot awaits you on the front of the box. Note that this is another set that includes a REQ pack card for use with halo 5 Guardians. MB Scorpion Sting BOX

Here are the contents of the box. There are two booklets of instructions.MB Scorpion Sting contents

And the pieces sorted out. I had to black out little areas towards the outside as they were showing other sets and I didn’t want you folks to get confused on what was in this set.MB Scorpion Sting sorted

Construction of the Scorpion begins with the tread assembly. This is the front right section.MB Scorpion Sting steps 1

Since each tread assembly is similar in build, I elected to just show you the first one above, then each of the four sections below here in completed form.MB Scorpion Sting steps 2

The body of the scorpion starts to take shape. Curiously, this is not a symmetrical design, as I thought it might be. The turret and driver’s area make that portion of the body asymmetrical at least from within.MB Scorpion Sting steps 3Before I move on, I want to point out one thing that is out of place here. That cylinder that holds the gun turret is way to big. Yes, it’s the right height to fit the figure, but definitely looks out of scale with the rest of the model. I’m going to try a modification of that part soon to see if I can make it look better.

I am making note of this step in particular. The 4X1 green piece as listed is actually black as shown in the construction part of the step. That’s a little miscue by MEGA. So I just want to make sure you know that the building part is right, not the parts list for this step.MB Scorpion Sting steps 3-2

The body is built up more with the main cannon housing assembly waiting to have the cannon placed on top of it. Surprisingly, the rear area has two working hatches that open up to the large cavity in the back section of the vehicle. Nothing specifically goes in there, but it’s nice to have that space anyway. You could stow your extra pieces away in there, or possible some troops to bust out into the battlefield!MB Scorpion Sting steps 4

The main cannon assembly is another section of the Scorpion that is not symmetrical either. This isn’t anything bad though. It looks quite powerful when built. Below we have the main section of this waiting for the cannon to be added.MB Scorpion Sting steps 5

The cannon is built and inserted into the assembly.MB Scorpion Sting steps 6

Below shows just how far the cannon can pivot upwards. Also note the little mini (I’m assuming gun?). It can slightly pivot up and down as well.MB Scorpion Sting steps 7

The 4 tread sections, body and main cannon assembly are ready to be put together. And it all looks great!MB Scorpion Sting steps 8

Here is a very cool feature added into the design. Circled in red are little ‘stops’ to keep the tread sections from flopping about all over the place. There is one for each tread section. Also, to further point out, the treads are not so loose as in previous Scorpion models. They are snugly fit, but not too tight. Just right to keep the treads from drooping down when you pick it up! An excellent upgrade for sure! Kudos to the MEGA designers for coming up with and fixing that!!MB Scorpion Sting steps 9

There is a buildable Covenant Plasma Turret. This one is two toned with purple being the main color and some grey towards the bottom front being the other color.MB Scorpion Sting Covie Turret

Here are the pieces I had left over. I was a little surprised that I had that large square plate piece with the hole in it. I’ll take it though! It will be great for a custom build somewhere down the line! (Your left over pieces may vary)MB Scorpion Sting Leftovers

Now let’s get to the minifigures.

There is a standard Storm Elite in blue that comes with a Storm Rifle.MB Scorpion Sting Minifig Elite

For the first time we get a Protector Spartan. I like the red color of this and that it has the white stripe on the helmet. I put the SMG with him.MB Scorpion Sting Minifig Spartan

And finally, the best of the 3 figs, IMO, Spartan Buck! Yep, the one and only former ODST Buck is now a Spartan. He kept his helmet as you can see, but has had the rest of his armor upgraded to a Spartan version! As you can see, I gave him the Assault Rifle.MB Scorpion Sting Minifig Buck

And here is the completed set with the figures in place. IN the yellow stroked box, I’m showing the Protector Spartan in the driver’s hatch.MB Scorpion Sting FIN

Summary: The set has a moderately long build time. In less than 3 hours, you should be able to sort and build the set. The Scorpion has the newer UNSC green color, which I’m VERY happy about! 3 figures, with two of those being all new add to the value of this set, especially BUCK! No major problems in building, save for that one mis step by MEGA that I mentioned above.

You can definitely do it in one sitting. If you don’t have three hours in a row, then I suggest building the 4 tread sections in one sitting, then the body/Cannon assembly in the next sitting.

Overall Rating: I give this set 9.5 out for 10 medals. This set has good value at $65

Why did I give it a 9.5 out of 10?
• The only real issue I had here was that cylinder part in the machine gun turret assembly. It stands out too much. That may or may not be a detractor for you.

You can take the cylinder out and have a gunner sit within the space below. It just won’t rotate and the figure will have to hold the machine gun in place. So that’s your choice. I’m going to try a modification to that specific part to see it I can make it look better.

Do I recommend it?  YES!!! This is a great looking model! Definitely has the UNSC feel to it. Getting a Protector Spartan is a nice bonus. Getting Spartan Buck is a HUGE bonus!! Also, if you’re looking to collect all of Fireteam Osiris, this set is a MUST have for the Buck figure.

  1. Great review Sal, as always.

I really like the look of this set. Very nice.

And that Buck figure looks spectacular!

  2. Finally! A new Scorpion tank! It looks fantastic and is definitely a big improvement over the older versions. The machine gun turret sticking out and the canisters on the tank turret bother me a bit but those are just nitpicks. I am sure to be picking this set up!

And the MSRP on this set is actually $55.
