These are all of the flood bits for the set.MB Flood Cyclops flood bits

These two in particular are re-used pieces from the Flood Tank form. At left is the arm, and right is the head.MB Flood Cyclops flood tank bits

This is a Flood Infected Human head, reused for this set.MB Flood Cyclops flood human bits

Other than the lower right arm, this Cyclops is no different in build from any other Cyclops. The only notable thing at this point is the ‘cracked’ windshield, which is actually printed on.MB Flood Cyclops steps 1

Below you can see the flood arm in stages. The top inset (by red) are the pieces needed for the metal portion. The bottom inset shows those pieces built. The ball joint on that section is where you attach the flood arm to. It looks very awkward there as there is quite a bit of separation from the mechanical part of the arm and the fleshy flood part.MB Flood Cyclops steps 2

The two flood head pieces are used to adorn the cyclops. They are a bit haphazard and really don’t belong. They’re just kind of ‘there’. MB Flood Cyclops steps 3

The cockpit opens and close and can fit a standard figure. Here the Flood figure is shown.MB Flood Cyclops steps 4

What I consider to be the only valuable part of this set, the Flood Spartan Figure.MB Flood Cyclops ORTHO F

And finally the whole set.MB Flood Cyclops FIn

Summary: The set has a very short build time. It’s easy to put together. Other than the flood arm and various little flood bits, there isn’t much difference between this Cyclops and previous versions. With no detachable weapons, this set is rather lacking.

Overall Rating: I give this set 7 out for 10 medals. This set has poor value at $16. The price per piece count general rule of 10 cents per piece is always thrown out with the Cyclops. The set is marked at 46 pieces. Using the rule that would be $4.60. And honestly, that’s really all about it’s worth. We really do NOT need to have any other cyclops sets. Yet, Mega Bloks keeps tapping that well. There isn’t a god reason any more to keep charging the U.S. price of $15-17 for a cyclops set. It’s not as if Mega has to recoup the cost of the molds for the parts anymore. At best, I’d say Cyclops sets from here on out (and I really don’t want anymore) shouldn’t be any more than $10, with $8 being preferred.

Why did I give it a 7 out of 10?
• This is close to the 12 version of the cyclops that Mega Bloks has made. The vehicle barely has a presence in anything Halo. Definitely not the FPS games. I’m actually rather tired of seeing this model clog up sore shelves when there could be new, never before done vehicles, or at least some vehicles with new paint schemes that have barely been done before.
• Mega Bloks has milked the Cyclops mold time and again. A ‘Flood Infected’ version makes NO sense. Flood can not infect vehicles. This is actually the second time Mega has had a flood infected vehicle. The first being a Ghost in a bigger set. At least that set had UNIQUE Flood parts.
• Retread of old parts. There is literally NOTHING new to the pieces at all. The ONLY thing of value in the set is the mini figure. In my opinion, that figure would have been better utilized in a troop pack set, similar to the Fireteam sets that have come out recently.

Do I recommend it?  Only if you REALLY want that Flood figure. Otherwise, this is a pass. I rarely say that, but this is one of those times…

  1. Great review Sal!

Mega Bloks just needs to retire the Cyclops line.
The figure is awesome though. Thank goodness it’s coming in future mystery packs.

Regarding your second negative point, the U.N.S.C has run worst-case scenario simulations, where a Hazop Cyclop’s (a Cyclops meant to contain the flood) operator is infected by the flood, and the biomass spreads, thus augmenting the Cyclops.

I think that was in Halo Waypoint’s Universe section. So it seems quite exceptional that there is a flood infected Cyclops.

    • Yeah, I know that entry. It’s not really the Cyclops that’s infected though. It’s the driver. Heh…I still have one more Cyclops review coming…The Damage Control Cyclops. That review will be a little better than this one, though not by much. I’m SOOOO tired of this vehicle. Honestly, had they stopped at those initial 4, I would have been totally okay with that. The NMPD one maybe. Heh, Now that Halo 5 has FOUR color variants for vehicles, I can see Mega making the Cyclops to match those… Green (Standard UNSC), Desert Camo (Urban), Mustard Yellow (Civilian), and Black (ONI). Yikes….. And yes, they’ve already made green and desert color versions, but they’d redo them. I can almost bet on that.
