Ah, finally a new McFarlane piece to add to my collection! This has been out for a little bit. I’ve only just had the chance to pick it up. Thankfully, I got it on sale at Toys R Us. The price is normally $29.99. I got it for $19.99. Read on to see what I think of it.
I know some of you like to keep your collections in the box. This statue looks decent in it’s package. Though you are missing out if you don’t take it out and look at all the detail that went into this. The back of the box might be a little misleading to some. You will NOT get the unhelmeted Locke head with every box. It IS exclusive. Yes, I know it’s printed right there, but undoubtedly, someone is going to miss that fact and be upset about it. So just be forewarned.
This is what you get in the box. Locke, an additional outstretched arm, a BR, and a sheet with a REQ code on it.
Here are a few additional full figure poses.
There is some limited articulation with the statue. You can gently lower the arms to the position you see below. As well, the heels have a little bit of articulation to help you steady the statue on whatever you may be displaying it on. (Not shown)
Close-ups of the chest and back detail. Really a LOT going on here!
Here is the additional arm in place of the holding arm. Note below that how each arm is inserted. It’s a simple round peg/round hole thing.
And finally a few more close ups, these of the BR in particular.Okay, so what is my assessment of this statue?
Yes, I can hear some of you saying, ‘why is he calling it a statue and not a figure?” Well, simply put, due to the very limited articulation, in my opinion, it doesn’t fit the description of a figure. It’s definitely more a statue.
The level of detail on this is fantastic! If you’re looking for an affordable statue with a lot of detail, this is a good buy.
What holds this back for me from being a super awesome collectible is that there were no other statues for it to be displayed with. At the least, a 10 inch Master Chief would have been great to display Locke with. Personally, I’m not a big fan of the character of Locke, though I’m not letting that bias affect my thoughts on the toy itself.
343 did great work with the design of the armor and McFarlane Toys has done an equally great job at sculpting it for a collectible.
Now is it worth it? Well, there are a few things to consider. There are plenty of statues of this scale out there in other franchises. Take a look at those prices. Often they are MUCH more expensive. However, those are made typically in polystone or some other hard material. The Locke statue is plastic. So as far as quality of material, well, this is less. But again, what I’m most concerned with when I buy a statue is it’s detail. And once again, this doesn’t disappoint!
As of this writing, you might still find it for the sale price at Toys R Us. If not, $30 is a decent price. I do wish that the unhelmeted head would have come with the statue and not been an exclusive. That’s a personal pet peeve of mine though. So take that with a grain of salt.
Do I recommend the 10 inch Locke? You bet! As a new hero in the Halo universe, this is a nice piece to own.
