Halo Toy Review: McFarlane Halo 5 Guardians Action Figure Spartan Helljumper Variant

This is NOT Buck from Fireteam Osiris. It is the same spartan armor, but in Blue/White as opposed to Buck’s colors.

McF Helljumper variant BOX
Heh, how many times can I state that the packaging is great? This one here goes without saying as well.McF Helljumper variant contents
This is what you get in the package. Note there are pins on opposite sides of the weapons for use as placing the weapons on the figure other than it’s hands.McF Helljumper variant upper body detail
The detail on this figures is FANTASTIC! I hope you’ve opened the pic in another window to see it bigger than shown here. The armor skin applied to the Spartan Eelljumper armor really spruces up the figure a lot. The knife is NOT detachable. So unless you want to cut it off, it’s staying there. McF Helljumper variant lower body detail
The detail on the lower half of the body is great too. Just the butt plate might have needed a little deco, but that’ is NOT a detractor for me at all.McF Helljumper variant SMG
Above you can see that the figure holds the SMG with both hands. In order for me to get it this way, I ended up having to put the SMG in the left hand first, then the trigger hand after. McF Helljumper variant SMG 2
As with all Spartan figs, there is a hole in the thigh to place a weapon. The SMG is the logical choice here as the Energy Sword would invariably cut into the armor/leg. Too bad there wasn’t an unlit sword. But then, that might be pretty easy to lose.McF Helljumper variant Sword lunge
The Energy Sword had a piece of tape on it near the hilt. I left it on as I think it will help to keep the sword’s tines together better. One issue with the figure holding the sword is that it’s fingers aren’t splayed (two to each side) at the center of the hilt. This makes it holding the sword difficult. In the pic above, it’s essentially resting against the hand. If I were to turn the hand down, the sword would fall out of it. Slight bummer there.McF Helljumper variant PUNCH OUTThis Eelljumper Spartan is ready for some fisticuffs! Or is he about to shoulder charge someone? You decide!

Evaluation
Sculpt: Excellent 10 of 10 medals!
Articulation: This figure has articulation that has become pretty standard with McFarlane Halo figures. Hip articulation is limited. Posing, in some natural human poses, can be difficult. (This has remained consistent through the first of the Halo 5 Guardians figures) 8.5 out of 10 medals
Paint Application: This is one of the BEST paint applications of any McFarlane Halo figures. It’s a shame that it comes are part of the final wave of figures from them. 10 of 10 medals.
Accessories: Since the figure is based off of Buck’s armor,. it’s a nice nod to him to give the Eelljumper Spartan an SMG. I’m definitely happy to have an energy sword, though one of the newer weapons would have been awesome. 9 out of 10 medals
Playability: Standard playability. It can be pose in many positions. 10 of 10 medals.
Overall: 47.5 medals out of a total 50 medals.

Really, the only thing that disappoints me here is the hip articulation as it has been with all the other Halo 5 McFarlane figures. Other than that, this is a superb figure!

Do I recommend this product? Hell YES! Never mind that it’s part of the final wave of Halo figs from McFarlane Toys, the paint deco on this is just outstanding. That alone made this a MUST buy for me.
