The packaging for these is nice. One thing to take note is that Mega Bloks could have gone the cheaper route and had all of these with the same card printed front and back and only the insert be different. I’m actually happy they didn’t here. This is one time where I got two sets so that I could have one kept mint and another to open.MB Halo Heroes S1 packages
Left to right above we have: Orbital Spartan, Spartan Thorne, Master Chief, Buck (ODST), Spartan Vale, and Defender Spartan.
MB Halo Heroes S1 back
The back of a card above is Master Chief’s. The only big difference between the backs of each card is that the figure in the package isn’t on the back.

Weapons
MB Halo Heroes S1 Weapons
The weapons are VERY nicely detailed, especially the top three.
These belong to each figure as follows:
Orbital Spartan: DMR
Defender Spartan: Storm Rifle
Spartan Thorne: Suppressor
Spartan Vale: SMG and Plasma Pistol
Buck: Assault Rifle and knife
Master Chief: Assault Rifle

Let’s take a brief look at each figure.

Orbital SpartanMB Halo Heroes S1 Orbital
This along with the Defender below were initially disappointments for me when I found out they would be part of this series. I had figured this would be for named characters only. Still, once I got them in had, I was pretty happy with them. The Orbital above has some nice white painted detailing.

Defender Spartan
MB Halo Heroes S1 Defender
I have to admit that I really like the Defender armor in general. That this one comes in lime green, my second favorite color, plus a non-copper visor (which is the standard) really helps to set this figure apart from other generic Spartans. White detail is nice. Though I think I’d have gone with a different color detail as it doesn’t contrast enough with the armor color. Still nice though.

Spartan ThorneMB Halo Heroes S1 Spartan Thorne
I am VERY happy to have an officially named Thorne. For now (as many of you probably have been), I’ve been using the one from last year that came in the ‘Rapid Attack Ghost‘ set as my stand-in Thorne. The one above is MUCH better though. For one we get the detailing as well as the shoulder symbols. I do want to point out that the shoulder armor was different from each other in Halo 4. So I suppose Thorne went back and made them match…

Master ChiefMB Halo Heroes S1 Master Chief
This is the Halo Wars era Master Chief and he looks AWESOME! The armor has a slight bit of speckling to it. I actually enjoy that as it makes the armor seem battle worn.

Spartan ValeMB Halo Heroes S1 Spartan ValeOur third member of Fireteam Osiris to be made. (Spartan Buck came with the Scorpion Sting set, while Spartan Locke came with the Vulture Gunship set). This figure looks excellent. There is no shoulder armor here. Instead, the little bumps meant for shoulder armor to attach to are painted red. THat’s actually a good solution (though Id’ rather have had shoulder armor). The torso underneath is indeed that of a female spartan.

Buck (ODST)MB Halo Heroes S1 ODST Buck
There are only two small points about this that I would have liked to seen. The visor is a bit too dark in color. The other is that the forearm and thighs should have the camouflage look. At least, the speckled effect that Mega uses could have been done here to make this look a little more authentic. Still, this is a phenomenal figures and a MUST own, especially if you are trying ti complete your ODST squad from the game!

MB Halo Heroes S1 ODST Buck KnifeBuck comes with a detachable knife. It can be stored just below the torso armor (pointing up or down, your choice). This is a VERY small part folks, so take care not to lose it!

The figure standMB Halo Heroes S1 Stand
Each stand comes with the exact same pieces as above, with the only exception being the printed name on it. Each has it’s own character’s name.MB Halo Heroes S1 Stand 2
Its a quick and easy assembly. It would have been great if that corner piece had the square hole on the other corner so as to be able to connect the stands. That would have looked pretty cool having connected stands. Or at least, not having the hollow stud on the side. Still, not a big deal at all.

And finally, here are each figure on their respective stands with their respective weapons. MB Halo Heroes S1 Spartans AssembleThe amount of posing you can get out of each is a lot! The poses above are just a sampling.

Summary: Virtually no build time other than the stand. Each figure has unique detailing and a printed stand piece with the name of the character on it. Special character artwork is on each package front.

Overall Rating: I give this series 9.5 out for 10 medals.

Why did I give it a 9.5 out of 10?
• This comes down to a little nit picking here. Detail paint on the Defender would have looked better in a dark color, not white, IMO. Shoulder armor, however small for Vale would have been preferred by me and the camouflage on Buck. Still, those are minute details that are excusable.

Value: The price of $5 each may seem high considering you get a blind pack figure for between $3-3.50. What makes these a little more special though is that they have more detailing on the figure, a nice paint application to the weapons and the buildable stand. So in my opinion, this price is worth it, given the special care given to each fig and package.

Do I recommend it?  Yes! If you’ve never collected Halo Mega Bloks, this is a good starting point. If you’ve been a collector, like I have, then this is a must! At the least, the named characters for sure.

  1. Nice review. For me, like the paint detail on the orbital spartan, especially the skull on it. My Favorite weapon would have to be that storm rifle. The blue paint really goes well with that dark purple. For vale though. I wish MEGA added a little more yellow to her, because that was her main colors, red and yellow. But that is just a minor thing for me. I really enjoy this series and I can not wait for series 2 to come out
