The second in the generation 2 Cyclops, the Incinerator Cyclops is far and away much better than it’s Gen1 predecessor.
The packaging has a neat action shot on the front, a little bit of the articulation showing where the fig goes on the back and on the side a sticker showing a REQ pack is inside.
Here is what comes in the box. I’m actually thankful the figure is assembled.
The pieces sorted out. As mentioned in the Strike Cyclops review, there are several Unique pieces in the cyclops set. No different here. The main body piece is very unique as are the several limb armor pieces and the cockpit. I’d have liked for the cockpit glass to have been transparent, but the gold looks great.
Okay, let’s get into the build.
First we start with the ankles, then legs, then put those together. Lots of RED to this version of the Cyclops. Hard to not see it’s the Incinerator version!
Next we put together three sections of the body. The Chest, the main body and the cockpit piece.
There is a buildable gas tank that gets placed onto the back of the mech’s body.
We put the legs, body and tank together.
Here are the arms. I LOVE those new fingers!!! The fact that this Gen2 Cyclops has possible fingers already makes it MUCH better than the previous generation.
Add the arms and the buildable flamethrower and the mech is complete!
You also build a flamethrower for the figure. This is the same flamethrower (but in different colors) that has been with the Flame Marine since the beginning. Although, the hose is different, being more flexible.
Detail of the fig and flamethrower.
Side views of the figure. The armor bits look good, especially the chest plate. Only thing I wish were changes were the shoulder armor pieces. Color for one to be the same as the rest of the armor and maybe a little bulkier too.
The figure comes with a plate piece for a stand.
Side views of the Cyclops. Wow, this is a fantastic model!
Now, in case you’re wondering where you can put the fig’s flamethrower when not in use, you’re in luck! Since the fingers on the Mech are articulate, you can easily place it in the other hand and the tank fits on to the lower arm easily!!
Here are the left over pieces. As these are the SAME piece that are left over from the Strike Cyclops set, I know they are not a mistake. In fact, I think they are meant to serve a purpose as seen below.
First, those ‘T” transfer pieces and the 1×1 plates can be used to attach to the foot. This adds stability though takes a small bit of articulation out. Trust me, the added stability is WORTH the trade-off.
Next the half circular block fits in nicely between the chest armor pieces.
Not shown are the two 1×1 plates with pins. Those fit inside the chest well for handles for the Marine to use to drive the mech.
Now, let’s take a look at the Gen1 and Gen2 Cyclops side by side.
No comparison, huh? Easily the Gen2 is better even at first glance. It’s bigger, more articulated and certainly looks better.
Below shows all the articulation that the Gen2 Cyclops has. It’s amazing how many poses you can get this into!
Summary: This is a the Gen 2 version of the Cyclops. A much better looking build than Gen 1. Articulation is fantastic and allows for MANY poses. Slight issues with armor assemblies popping off, but they are easy to put back on. Just be careful.
Overall Rating: I give this set 9 out for 10 medals.
Why did I give it a 9 out of 10?
• The only reason it didn’t get a 10 from me was due to the issue of the armor parts popping off. If those would have been more stable and didn’t pop off, this would have easily been a 10 for me. Still, it’s a great set!
Value: The price of $17-20 is fair for this set. First there are the number of unique new pieces. Not to mention, in comparison to the Gen1 Cyclops, this has MORE pieces and a TON more articulation. At only $1-3 more than the Gen1 Cyclops, the Gen2 is SOOO much better and worth the added cost!!
Do I recommend it? Yes! Absolutely! I had a LOT of fun building this set and will continue to have more fun as I repose it over and over. A must own set, IMO!!
