And on with the pics! (Click pics to make BIGGER)So here is the whole lot of Halo Heroes Series 2. You get 3 named characters and 3 generic Spartans. The packaging is nice and displays the figure, weapon and stand pieces well. I do like the translucent orange baseplate for the stand. Giving a different color plate for each series helps to identify them with their respective series.mb-halo-heroes-s2

Each set comes with the same pieces for the stand. The exception is that the black piece has the specific name of the figure printed on it. Romeo is just shown here for example.mb-halo-heroes-s2-stand

As you can see, with the help of the clear t-bar, you can get the figures into many different positions. SOme do not require the figs to have their feet on the pegs.mb-halo-heroes-s2-fin

So let’s go over each figure from left to right (from the above pic):

Spartan DeMarco: The second of Fireteam Majestic. I’m very happy to have him. I think we can expect to get each member of Majestic this way and I’m all for it! The detailing is great and he comes with his signature DMR. Excellent fig!

Spartan Gungnir: While this is a generic Spartan, the circles on it are not so generic. These are from the Pulse skin form Halo 4:

The only issue I has is that the Spartan should have been Red if they were looking to emulate the advertised one. Personally, I’d have preferred that too as red is my favorite color. Good figure!

Sergeant Forge: Now THIS figure I and MANY have been wanting and waiting for, for several years! While it comes close, there is a glaring omission. He should have the Ace of Spades card on his shoulder armor. Just one side, not both. This could have been done with either a paint application or a small band on the armor. I guess that was a bit too much though for the pricepoint. Good fig, but could have been GREAT with that added detail.

Spartan Scout: For me, the Scout has been overdone. I’m kind of sick of seeing it at this point. While I always enjoy having green color spartans, the yellow striping makes this look a bit putrid to me. That’s my personal opinion though. As a figure, it’s solid.

Spartan Oceanic: While this is anotehr armor that has been done a lot, the gleaming orange visor is a great touch and contrasts the silver/purple armor well. I had to look at 4 different ones to find a helmet I liked. Often the Oceanic’s cross bar on the visor can be a bit mucky with the paint detail. The BR is a plus! Good figure!

Romeo (OSDT): Romeo Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? (Look it up…) Anyway, he’s RIGHT HERE! And I’m VERY happy to have him. This closes out the official named ODST Squad from the game. Buck came in Series 1, Mickey with the NMPD Pelican set, Dutch with the Drone set, the Rookie with the ODST Drone from 2 years ago. Now techincally we haven’t had an offical Dare figure yet, but she’s not actually part of the squad. We did get a version of her in a drop pod years ago and you can currently get a version of her in the ODST armor pack. (Review of that to follow soon!) Back to Romeo. Great figure! Glad to have a painted Sniper too!!

Summary: This series a mixed bag. For sure though, it’s a GOOD mixed bag. A couple of small details would have made 2 of the figures go from good to great. I prefer named characters than generic ones as we can get those in just about any normal set. Though I understand the reasoning for splitting up named and generic figures.

(It helps to draw out the product line)

Overall Rating: I give this series 9 out for 10 medals.

Why did I give it a 9 out of 10?
• If the Gungnir were red instead of orange I’d have given a half point back.
• Forge without the Ace of Spades is’nt quite game accurate Forge, so the other half point.

Value: The price of $5 is an okay value. With blind packs being $3-3.50, you’re paying $1-1.50 more (US) per figure in these series. The stand doesn’t really amke up for that. SO it comes down to the paint application on both the figure and weapon. We used to get painted fiugres before Mega went to the removable armor system for cheeaper. So this becomes a matter of well we get remoavable armor AND paint aplications, not one or the other. So for that reason, I say it’s an okay value.

Because each figure has individual package design and printing, this is the reason for the added boost in cost. If you’re a carded collector, you likely won’t mind paying the little bit extra. If you open all your stuff, then this might be a small detractor.

For the named figures, I’d say the added cost is worth it. Not so much for the generic spartans. Hence the mixed bag… Good, not great.

Do I recommend it?  Yes, for the reasons above.

  1. I hope they continue this line. I like being able to pick up named figures without buying big sets. So many named figures I would like to see I couldn’t list them all here. I understand why they put generic figures in the line also, I just hope they make it a variety. Maybe throw in a generic marine or elite once in a while.

    • You’re in luck. Series 3 is post production and shiuld be in stores soon. There is also another series, but not numbered. As far as I know, it’s called the ‘Challenger’ series. Looks to be from Halo 5. I’ll post more on that when I know more.
