Kubros is a new line from Mega Bloks that takes characters from many franchises and makes large cubed versions of them. The head is disproportionately larger than the body, giving a feeling of them being akin to either Chibis or Funko figures, but in Mega Bloks form.
Master Chief is the first for the Halo portion of this line. There are several other characters from other franchises to date. For instance Assassin’s Creed, a few of the Ninja Turtles and enemies, Hellboy, Spock and Worf from Star Trek, Terminator, He-Man, Skeleton and more.
Will we get anotehr Halo Kubros character? I hope so. If I had my choice, I’d like to see the Arbiter next, then Cortana as they are the most pivotal characters in all of Halo, besides Master Chief.
And on with the pics! (Click pics to make BIGGER)
There is a different pic on each side of the box, so I wanted to show that. I like how they worked in not just the Mega version of Chief’s head, but the in-game version as well on one of the sides. Not pictures, but on the top of the box is printed in what I believe to be ‘thermography’ dots that represent the studs of a Mega Bloks plate. Pretty cool touch there!
Here’s what you get. Yep, the parts bags have lots of printing on them. Not that they’d be collectible, but they are definitely distinctive in comparison to normal Mega Bloiks sets.
I would be remiss not to show the very cool interior of the box. Normally I do not keep product packaging. This is one instance however, when I most will.
Ok, the parts are all sorted out and ready to build.
Nearly all the parts are stock pieces, which I’m happy about. There are 4 exceptions, 3 of which will likely become stock pieces for sets outside of the Kubros line, in the future. To the left of the pic below, you can see a small gold circular ‘button’. This piece has a ‘K’ emblazoned on it for “Kubros”. That of course will remain part of the Kubros line. To the right of the pic, the largest green piece (that has the hole on top) is new, that I can tell. That piece is used for the torso, which you’ll see shortly. The sloped piece (with the whole through it) directly beneath that is also new. That piece will eventually house the gold K dot. Just to the left of that slope piece are two 2X1 slanted slope pieces. While not yet stock, I imagine Mega will figure out a place for them to be used. I hope so, I can already imagine some uses for them.
So the first thing you build is the head. Pretty simple design here. Squared off, but definintely recognizable as Master Chief’s helmet. I dig it! Note the black peg sticking out of the bottom. That’s to insert into the torso piece. It’s a snug fit, so the head won’t pop off easily.
That large piece I mentioned earlier is in the pic set below. To the left you can see the hole. It also has holes on the side of it for the arms to attach to later. At middle in the pic is shown the back thrusters. The right shows the bottom-up of the torso.
Next we build the legs. These are not articulated and that’s fine as it makes the pretty model stable when standing.
The arms are assembled and attached. The shoulder pieces are the slanted slope ones I mentioned earlier. They have a peg sticking out of them to be inserted into the big piece’s holes.
Here’s the Assault Rifle. Yes, it doesn’t have a trigger, but doesn’t need it. This isn’t meant to be game accurate, just close enough to fit into the context of the Kubros line. I think Mega designers did a great job of that interpretation here. Just 10 pieces and it definitely looks like a Halo AR!
We put the head, body and AR together and you get the completed Master Chief!
Here’s the sloped piece with the hole in it that the “K” button goes into. That is a standard feature every Kubros figure has.
I only had two pieces left. I didn’t try, but perhaps the round piece might fit into the hole where the K button is? Maybe not…
Here’s the model in orthogonal views.
Showing the figure with it’s limited articulation.
I wanted to show the size difference between a Kubros and a mini figure, for scale. As I said, it’s large. Not monstrously so, but a good size for your work desk, shelf or display area.
Summary: This is an easy build. Great use of stock pieces with a slight mix of new ones. The green is a SOLID green and not the camoflauge that Mega typically uses, for which I’m VERY thankful for in this instance.
Overall Rating: I give this set 9.5 out for 10 medals.
Why did I give it a 9.5 out of 10?
• Perhaps just a smidge more detail in the torso here. But for what it is and it being a new line, it’s cool. The head of the character is the main focus and Mega pulls that off nicely.
Value: The price of $15 is an good value. It does follow the 10 cents per piece guideline. However, I do think it’s priced slightly higher than it should be, considering the nearly all stock pieces. I would guess that the special printing on the box (top) as well as the printed bags and the inside of the box printing may have contributed to cost to. I’m actually okay with that. As mentioned, I normally do not keep packaging, but this time, I am for sure! So what do I think the cost should be? $10-12.
Do I recommend it? Yes! It’s just different enough to add some variety into your collection. It would look great on a work desk for those of you not afraid to show your nerdiness! LOL
I sincerely hope we see more Halo characters from the Kubros line!!

I have the Chief and also hope we see other characters from halo used in this line. I don’t want you see color variations of Spartans though. I would like to see mega bloks to release online directions to make other weapons to scale with the kubros. I’ve thought about picking up the star trek figures also.
