The 12 Days of Halo Toy Reviews: Day 7; Mega Bloks Brute Weapons Customizer Pack

Mega Bloks has changed it’s name to Mega Construx. For the sets I’m reviewing that still have the Mega Bloks logo, that will be present in them. The sets that are now Mega Construx will have that logo. With a possible one or two exceptions, starting in 2017, all Mega reviews will be Mega Construx instead of Mega Bloks.

And on with the pics! (Click pics to make BIGGER)

As you can see this set sports the new Mega Construx logo. The reason for the change is that Mattel (who purchased Mega awihle ago, wanted a way to differentiate the regular Mega Bloks lines/sets from collector brand lines, like Halo, Call of Duty, and Monster High, for examples. It’s the same company, just a rebranding.

The package shows the figures and accessories nicely. The only thing you don’t see are the two figure stands and the little pieces that go on top of the lids of the crates.mb-brute-weapons-pack-box

The is what you get in the set. Again, the little baggies hold the stands and lid pieces.mb-brute-weapons-pack-contents

There isn’t really much building with the set. Just adding the lid pieces. Really though, for me, this was optional. I’ll likely add these to my spare parts bin. Middle of graphic below shows how those pieces are placed on the lid. Bottom shows that the weapons can be stored in the crate…with ONE exception. The gravity hammer is just a bit too long to fit inside. That’s not a big deal to me at all. mb-brute-weapons-pack-crates

Various views of the 2 Banished Brutes included. The right and left shoulder pads are different from each other. Perhaps this will be explained in Halo Wars 2. If not, just know that it was meant to be that way in this set.mb-brute-weapons-pack-ortho

A close-up of the Brute heads shows they have some good detail to them. These heads are tiny though. I’m going to add a pinpoint of red for eyes to them, just to add some color.mb-brute-weapons-pack-skin-tone

And finally, the Brutes are ready for battle! One dual weilding no less! Will that be in the gamne? Hmm…mb-brute-weapons-pack-fin

On a side note, as HFFL’s colors are silver and light blue, I’m personally happy with this set as I consider that Brute an HFFL Brute! LOL

Summary: This set is ready to go out of the box. It’s one of the first few sets to have the Mega Construx logo on it and one of the first few Halo Wars 2 related sets. The small pieces added to the lids of the crates really are more to differentitate the colors of the Brutes more than anything. Feel free to leave those off if you wish.

Overall Rating: I give this set 9.5 out for 10 medals.

Why did I give it a 9.5 out of 10?
• This may be changed to a 10. The reason for the half point is the colors are not campaign accurate. However…if the multiplayer colors match these, then the set gets a 10! So we will have to wait and see when Halo Wars 2 comes out.

Let me break down my opinion of the value of this set. (In US dollars)
Each figure plus one of the weapons equals $3.50 each. $7 total
The crates with lids I put at 75 cents each for $1.50 total
The other weapons/accessories I place at $1.50 total
This brings my estimated value of the set to: $10

As I bought my set on sale at $8 (from Amazon.com), it was an excellent value. I’ve heard it going for as much as $12, but with the average price being $9-10 at retail. So this set is right on target for value or even better! I always appreciate having more weapons accessories. Having little crates to store them in is an added benefit as well.

Do I recommend it?  YES! Campaign accurate color or not, this set is inexpensive. If you want to build up an army of Banished Brutes, buying several of this set is a very effective way to do so!

If you have any questions about this set that I didn’t cover in the review, please do not hesitate to ask me. Either reply below or e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks for reading and let me know what you think of the review. If you get this set yourself, please let me know your thoughts on it too!

If this review gives you an informed decision on whether to purchase the set or not, please consider a small donation (50 cents) maybe. It’s much appreciated and helps ensure that HFFL stays active on the internet. Thank You.
