The 12 Days of Halo Toy Reviews: Day 11; Mega Construx Spartan Customizer set

Mega Bloks has changed it’s name to Mega Construx. For the sets I’m reviewing that still have the Mega Bloks logo, that will be present in the review. The sets that are now Mega Construx will have that logo. With a possible one or two exceptions, starting in 2017, all Mega reviews will be Mega Construx instead of Mega Bloks. Same Company, different brand name.

And on with the pics! (Click pics to make BIGGER)

The package shows everything included in the set, with exception to the white and balck baseplates. One each of those is contained within one of the crates. On the back, I do wish there would have been a description saying specifically which armors were included. mb-spartan-armor-customizer-box

Once you remove the plastic tray from the package, this is what you see. Again, one figure stand for each figure and a small instruction sheet.mb-spartan-armor-customizer-tray

I haven’t mention this before in previous reviews, but feel I should now, especially because this set has several small pieces. TO save yourself possible frustration with losing parts, be sure to press the pieces out with the pieces facing down to the surface of whatever you are putting them on. If you don’t, it’s possible that the pieces may pop out and flay across the room… Thereby making you hunt them down. Heh. I know this from experience…mb-spartan-armor-customizer-tray2

Once the pieces are removed, you’re ready to play or display. It’s your choice what armor sets you want to use. Below shows the figures with the armor that already came on them.mb-spartan-armor-customizer-contents

The extra armor sets fit easily within the crates and the lids can easily fit over top. I do suggest splitting the torso armor into it’s two respective pieces to have an even better fit into the crates for storing.mb-spartan-armor-customizer-crates

Now, since there are 3 sets of armor, per figure, the only way to get all six sets on the figures is to buy 3 sets of this set. And yes, that’s what I did. Below shows the Yellow armored Spartans. (The speckled white sets are the same as the yellow, just a different color.)

Left to right in each quarter of the graphic below, Mark V; Mark VI Gen 1 otherwise known as the Halo 3 armor; Mark VI Gen 2 armor, aka the 343 Master Chief armor.mb-spartan-armor-customizer-views

And finally, here are all six figures. Of course, you are welcome to mix and match colors as you choose. After all this IS a customizer set. I just prefer to keep whole color sets together.mb-spartan-armor-customizer-fin

Summary: This set is ready to go out of the package. Swapping armor is quick and easy. Wth only 2 baseline figures, if you want to use all the sets of armor, you will need to buy additional sets.

Overall Rating: I give this set 9.5 out for 10 medals.

Why did I give it a 9.5 out of 10?
• The only small issue I have is that I feel there should have been either more or different weapons. One Magnum would have been fine instead of two, IF there would have been another weapon included. An Assault Rifle for example. This would have allowed for just a slight bit more ‘customization’. Just enough to add a bit more value to the set too.

Let me break down my opinion of the value of this set. (In US dollars)
Each figure plus one of the weapons equals $3.50 each. $7 total
Additional armor sets which include 2 shoulder pads, helmet and a 2-piece torso armor: $1 each set; $4 total
Two crates with lids, $1.50 total
My estimated value: TOTAL: $12.50

Since I got this set on sale for $8, this was an EXCELLENT value. At the normal retail price of $9 this is a VERY good value. Even at the hgih end price at some retail stores of $12 it’s still a good value.

Do I recommend it?  YES! Though this isn’t Master Chief, the armor is the same as he wears in various Halo games. They are cool armor sets regardless. If you want to build up your Spartan armor fast and inexpensively, this is one way you can do it.

If you have any questions about this set that I didn’t cover in the review, please do not hesitate to ask me. Either reply below or e-mail me at [email protected]
