The UNSC Spade Rush set has a cool action shot on the front of the box. No, the weapons do not actually fire, LOL.mb-spade-rush-box-front

On the back of the box you see the whole set. Yes, the wheels spin. Usually Mega shows that type of thing on the back. As well, note the other sets shown. I’ve reviewed two of those previously. That middle one though, I have yet to see. You can bet once I do though, that I’ll review it here.mb-spade-rush-box-back

Okay, so here is what you get in the box. You get 7 baggies, an instruction manual. THere are no loose parts. Note that you need to put the figures together.mb-spade-rush-contents

ANd here are all the pieces sorted out. I sorted these out by color. Makes it MUCH easier to find pieces while you’re building, IMO.mb-spade-rush-sorted

So let’s take a look at the build then.

The Spade, that I can tell, hasn’t changed with regards to how it’s built, from previous Spade sets. So, if you have those sets, this will be a familiar build for you.mb-spade-rush-steps

Here is the Spade complete with the removable Missile Pod on the back of it.mb-spade-rush-finmb-spade-rush-fin-2

Note that I have the pod’s base attached differently from how the directions tell you to put it on. I like symmetry, where as the instructions have you put the pod base on the actual studs, I put them in the space between, which does indeed fit. (An old trick used by blok builders for decades.)mb-spade-rush-missile-pod-placement

Be sure to open this next pick in another window to see the detail.

THe only difference between the two spartans is the helmet. One is an EVA, while the other an Operator. I like the deep yellow color of the armor and the dark blue visors are great! While they do stand out from the Spade so they wouldn’t be camoflauged, I think it’s a good choice of color. We don’t often get Yellow Spartans. Seems like Mega made up for that this year with this and the Spartan Customizer set.mb-spade-rush-figs-orthomb-spade-rush-accessories

Here are the parts left over. (Unbuilt on top, then made into a small set of stairs on the bottom. I do like that Mega has taken to using the ‘stabilizing’ pieces in colors that can blend in with base plates. These are also great for custom builds too.mb-spade-rush-leftovers

And the Spade and it’s Spartans ready to roll!mb-spade-rush-complete

Summary: This set is the third Spade set to be released. It’s an easy build and a good toy for the age listed on the box (8+). You can easily build this in one setting. It took me right around an hour between sorting and building, total.

Overall Rating: I give this set 9.5 out for 10 medals.

Why did I give it a 9.5 out of 10?
• I’m going to be a little nitpicky here, because honestly, there isn’t anything wrong with the set. So the following is my personal preference. If you are a fan of in-game colors with your set, then this set doesn’t match up. That’s it. However, that said, I DO think the color of the Spade is quite good. It looks like Mega was going for a kind of light forest camoflauge theme with the Spade.

Let me break down my opinion of the value of this set. (In US dollars)
2 figures, with a weapon and a stand at $3.50 each for a total of $7
missile pod $1
Spade $14
My estimated value total: $22

As you can see, the set actually only costs $20, so I think the value is definitely there!!

Do I recommend it?  YES Regardless if you have a previous Spade set or not, what’s not to like about a buildable ‘car’? Good color choices for the Spade itself mean you coud use this in an outdoor scene or for play. The yellow Spartans are a good addition. As I mentioned, we don’t often get a lot of Yellow Spartans, so here is your chance.
