Halo Toy PRE-view: Mega Construx Banished Turret Takedown

New sets are finally trickling out, just in time for the holidays! Today, I preview the Banished Turret Takedown set from Mega Construx.

Some set specs:
Minifigs in set: Blue Mark IV Spartan
Accessories: Sniper Rifle
Pieces: 123
Cost: $14.99

On to the official pics from Mega!

In the first pic, we see that an action feature is built into the turret. You can launch two translucent purple projectiles via small hinged launch pieces.

Likewise, another hidden button makes the turret go from standing tall to crashing down. Pretty cool feature!

The figure included is a now standard Mark IV Blue Spartan. It fits with the theme as Red Team from Halo Wars 2 wear Mark IV variants.

Here’s the official blurb from Mega on the set:
Pit a Spartan’s demo skills against a Banished Turret attack!
When a Banished turret threatens to jeopardize the mission, a UNSC Spartan is your best defense in taking it down! Build the rotating, Banished turret unleash the missiles. Then fight back when you equip your MARK IV armor micro action figure using detachable armor and authentic Sniper Rifle. Get in range, then activate the turret’s working destruct button to watch it blow!

Ideal for ages 8 and up

Features:
• Buildable, adjustable cannons on the rotating turret with missiles
• Turret features self-destruct button for instant demolition
• 1 highly detailed, super-poseable MARK IV armor micro action figure
• Figure comes with detachable armor and authentic Sniper Rifle accessory

My quick assessment of the set (not having it in hand at present) is that the piece count being 123 and we get only one figure that has been issued before (albeit different colors), it’s a tad over priced at $15. This also in light of the fact that all pieces are stock and none are new to this set. There are a few painted pieces, but not enough to lift it to the $15 price. I’d like to see this set go for $10-12. That would put it in the perfect price point for what you get.
The design of the turret is very cool and fits in with the Banished aesthetic from Halo Wars 2.
It’s a good set and could easily be a multi purchase, if the price were a few dollars less.

Look for my FULL review of this set in soon. There I’ll go into much more detail of the build, especially how the action features are built into the turret.

Thanks as always for reading!
