Random Ordnance drops in Halo 4. Fair or not? A discussion.

Ordnance should be tiered. Plain and simple…

The more kills you get, the better your ordnance gets. Those poorly skilled players who get lucky and get a rocket launcher, wouldn’t anymore. Well, not until they killed a lot of people with lesser weapons.

Being good in Halo 4 doesn’t have much “reward,” especially when you can be killed by someone who got their first ordnance drop and it was an incineration cannon. That person who got the “InCin” then goes on to get a lucky killing spree due to a weapon the really didn’t deserve to get. Which in turn gives than yet another weapon drop…

Really???

The way I see ordnance dropping is that, for every 5 kills you get, (or a combo of kills/assists) you get a new drop. Each successive drop (for 5 kills/assists) is BETTER than the previous. It’s a reward for being BETTER than your opponents and a way to vanquish them quicker. Teams of unskilled players should NOT have a chance to beat skilled players with random drops that give them weapons that even skilled players can’t defend against.

This is one reason why when given the option, I ask my team to vote for NON-Infinity game types.

There really needs to be a CLASSIC playlist that is devoid of Infinity settings. (and ordnance altogether) Bring back TIMED weapons as specific areas on a map. Allow those teams of dedicated and/or skilled players to win because they have knowledge of those weapons spawning and have the skill to hold that area until those weapons spawn.

‘Nuff said.

  1. I hate to be that guy, but I think you’re missing the bigger issue. Ordnance drops are not fair at all, regardless of what’s in them. The fixed weapons spawns in the previous games were completely fair (not accounting for map design of course, which varied in fairness). I think rather than tackling the symptoms of a mechanic, 343 should just take it out all together. That probably won’t happen of course, but it’s something that they absolutely have to do in Halo 5. That’s a small part of a much bigger issue though.

But I agree, they need to be tiered if they are staying in Halo 4.

    • Actually, by your own post, you’ve validated what I wrote about, therefore showing that I’m not missing the bigger issue. Personally, I want them completely removed too. That’s why I suggested a “classic” playlist. Unfortunately, 343 seems to think that this new style of gameplay (new to Halo, not new to other franchises like Call of Duty) is forward thinking and what people want in Halo. So the are less apt to taking it out. Besides, doing so now or even in a future Halo title would be admitting they did wrong. Something I don’t think they want to admit, or Microsoft would have them admit.

      • I agreed with your point about the existing state of the Ordnance being unfair. My point was that that’s irrelevant. The whole mechanic by it’s own nature is unfair, regardless of how it’s implemented. Either the classic gameplay is the standard across the majority of modes and gametypes, or I’m not interested in Halo 5. Armour abilities were enjoyable minus armour lock, but all these new features are just ridiculous.

      • Oh agree with that completely. But that ship has sailed. 343 has implemented ordnance for better or worse and I doubt it’s going to get the axe in Halo 5. Best we can hope for is a classic playlist without ordnance drops. Since those drops supposedly come from the Infinity and that ship is going to be integral in the next two games, ordnance isn’t going away.

      • If that actually happens in Halo 5, then I won’t be getting it unfortunately. That also means I have no reason to get the new Xbox. I’ll just have to be content with my PS4 and the probably superior version of Destiny. 😛

      • This is a trend that I’m seeing and hearing about with Halo fans. Many are ready to jump ship to the PS4/Destiny. 343 really dos need to take that to heart. If they lose their core fans, then the casuals won’t be able to support the franchise. Sure, new game sales for Halo 5 will be good, but DLC? Nope. High Multiplayer count? Nope. I just don’t understand why we don’t see more stuff supported for and being developed for Halo 4 and quicker. M$ really screwed the pooch with Halo. 343 gets the brunt of the negativity. Some is warranted, some is not. And we the fans? We get stuck with a game that while good, doesn’t quite live up to the standards of what we’ve come to know as Halo. While the promises from 343 of a better Halo in Halo 5 are out there. The last time they told us to trust them backfired greatly. I won’t blame you for jumping to the PS4/Destiny.
