Microsoft is reportedly prepping voice command software called Cortana to compete with Apple\u2019s Siri and Android\u2019s Google Now. According to\u00a0ZDNet<\/a>, Cortana \u201cwill be able to learn and adapt, relying on machine-learning technology and the “Satori” knowledge repository powering Bing.\u201d<\/p>\n ZDNet\u2019s sources report that Cortana (presumably named after\u00a0Halo\u2019s AI companion<\/a>) will be \u201ccore\u201d to future versions of Windows Phone, Windows and Xbox One. Back in July, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer referenced \u201ca family of devices powered by a service-enabled shell<\/a>,\u201d which now appears to be in reference to Cortana\u2019s capabilities. According to ZDNet, that shell \u201cwon’t simply surface information stored on users’ phones, PCs and consoles like a search engine can do today.\u201d In Ballmer\u2019swords<\/a>, it \u201cwill support the experiences layer and broker information among our services to bring them together on our devices in ways that will enable richer and deeper app experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n Windows Phone currently includes basic voice commands, and Microsoft has already trumped up\u00a0the voice capabilities of Kinect<\/a>\u00a0for its upcoming Xbox One.
