\"57cb6f8ec7180bae0212111f2e3c0eb6\"<\/a>Halo 5: Guardians<\/em>\u00a0has a part for Cortana to play, despite the events of\u00a0Halo 4<\/em>, Halo series actor Mike Colter\u00a0told IGN.<\/p>\n

Spoiler alert:<\/strong>\u00a0This article assumes readers have finished\u00a0Halo 4<\/em>‘s campaign. If you haven’t, this will spoil a major event for you.<\/p>\n

The actor plays Agent Locke in the\u00a0Halo: Nightfall\u00a0<\/em>series and will reprise his role in the upcoming\u00a0Xbox\u00a0One shooter. Speaking of Locke’s role as a bridge between\u00a0Halo 4\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Halo 5<\/em>, Colter said that\u00a0the playable character<\/a>\u00a0will join the cast alongside some returning favorites.<\/p>\n

“When he goes into\u00a0Halo 5<\/em>, you’ll see him transition into a Spartan, a super soldier,” Colter said. “It’s a prominent role within the game. Obviously Master Chief will be involved, Cortana, but Locke will be one of the playable characters in\u00a0Halo 5<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

And Locke’s role isn’t limited to\u00a0Halo 5\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Nightfall<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“He’ll have a prominent role,” he said. “He’s one of the new additions that will be featured throughout the next couple of video games. So you’ll see a lot of Commander James Locke.”<\/p>\n

Cortana has been protagonist Master Chief’s faithful companion since\u00a0Halo: Combat Evolved\u00a0<\/em>was released on the original Xbox in 2001. In Halo fiction, artificial intelligences like Cortana have a shelf life, after which they go “rampant,” meaning illogical, angry and unstable. By the events of\u00a0Halo 4<\/em>, Cortana’s impending rampancy was a problem that the narrative dealt with.<\/p>\n

At the end of\u00a0Halo 4<\/em>, Cortana effectively sacrificed herself to defeat the game’s final boss, the Didact, and protect Master Chief. In short, Cortana died. Evidentially, that won’t prevent her from appearing in some form in\u00a0Halo 5: Guardians<\/em>.<\/p>\n
