JAWBREAKER<\/h2>\n

Since we\u00a0first announced it back in March,\u00a0Halo: Shadow of Intent<\/em>\u00a0has had fans incredibly excited for a variety of reasons, from its sought-after subject matter to its legendary author, Joseph Staten. If you have been\u00a0following the glorious gruntmaster on Twitter<\/a>, you\u2019ve already seen a few character-constrained glimpses of the upcoming digital-first novella. After conferring a bit with Mr. Staten however, we thought it might be more fun to provide a slightly wider view for our ravenous readers\u2026<\/p>\n

The longer the countdown went, the more the bunker smelled<\/em><\/p>\n

like fear.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Prelate scowled at the two Jiralhanae looming beside him.<\/em><\/p>\n

One was covered with rust-red hair, and the other with dirty white.<\/em><\/p>\n

Both warriors were so tall that they had to duck their helmeted<\/em><\/p>\n

heads to keep from banging them on the bunker\u2019s low, flat ceiling.<\/em><\/p>\n

The thickly muscled, sharp-toothed Brutes stood still and silent,<\/em><\/p>\n

like monuments to violence. But all male Jiralhanae were prone<\/em><\/p>\n

to pungent pheromones that mirrored their emotions, and now,<\/em><\/p>\n

so close to the activation of the device, these usually fearless<\/em><\/p>\n

creatures\u2019 panicked stench permeated the cramped, dark room.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Prelate, Tem\u2019Bhetek, wanted to shout a reprimand. He<\/em><\/p>\n

had handpicked the two Jiralhanae for their strength and mental<\/em><\/p>\n

fortitude. And besides: they were adults, certainly mature enough<\/em><\/p>\n

to regulate their pheromones. But Tem held his tongue, partly<\/em><\/p>\n

because he didn\u2019t want to startle the insectile Yanme\u2019e nervously<\/em><\/p>\n

monitoring the device\u2019s final activation sequence, but mostly<\/em><\/p>\n

because the Prelate knew the Jiralhanae weren\u2019t the real cause of<\/em><\/p>\n

his slowly building rage.<\/em><\/p>\n

As much as the Prelate\u2019s nostrils recoiled at his warriors\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

sharp, sour scent, it was the noise filling his lobeless ears that<\/em><\/p>\n

made him truly angry. A noise that rose over the rapid clicking<\/em><\/p>\n

of the Yanme\u2019e\u2019s claws on the luminous glyphs shining through<\/em><\/p>\n

the surface of the bunker\u2019s obsidian walls. A noise that muted the<\/em><\/p>\n

rumble of the device in the test chamber many levels above. A<\/em><\/p>\n

noise so infuriating that the Prelate finally broke his silence with a<\/em><\/p>\n

strangled hiss: \u201cWhy would they\u00a0sing<\/strong>\u00a0at a time like this?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

As you\u2019ve noticed, the aforementioned excerpt notes a so-far-unknown character in the Halo universe, the Prelate \u2013 a San\u2019Shyuum unlike any that Halo fans have encountered before. While we don\u2019t want to give away anything more than that, we did feel it would be fun to not just give you a taste in words alone, though they do say a picture is worth a thousand of them\u2026 Keen-eyed readers will have already noticed a never-seen-before image gracing the header of this week\u2019s issue, which features two characters from\u00a0Halo: Shadow of Intent<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 one that you\u2019ve seen before, when we\u00a0revealed the cover and description of the story in early September, and the other, well, the other you will get to know even better once the\u00a0full release drops on December 7th<\/sup><\/strong>. The image, by the way, comes from an upcoming product you\u2019ve likely seen a tiny slice of already, and one we\u2019re excited to talk more about soon.<\/p>\n

Taking place after the events of\u00a0Halo 3<\/em>,\u00a0Halo: Shadow of Intent\u00a0<\/em>show readers a new side of the post war landscape, and gives fans a glimpse of the trials and tribulations tangled in the aftermath of fresh wounds and fractured alliances\u2026<\/p>\n

After decades of grim combat against the humans and then the traitorous Covenant Prophets, the Sangheili warrior Rtas \u2018Vadum\u2014the Half-Jaw\u2014has earned a long rest. But not all of the Prophets perished in their holy city, High Charity, and now one of their fearsome Prelates has sworn his vengeance. This powerful threat has set a cataclysmic plan in motion\u2014a plan to lure the Half-Jaw into a trap that will herald the utter destruction of the entire Sangheili race\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n
