I feel the need to bring this up as last night a fan of two years decided to no longer follow me, due to my age policy.<\/p>\n
First, the blog itself is kept at a PG-13 rating as best as I can. There have been a few rare exceptions.<\/p>\n
Second, when signing up to be a subscriber, you should be 18 one older. Now some may ask why that is when I maintain a PG-13 blog? Well, simply put, it is for those times when I might post something not suitable for below 18.<\/p>\n
Now, I’m not going to kid myself here. I know that teenagers and younger kids have heard all sorts of bad language or seen violence in video games, movies, etc. However, as an adult, I feel I need to be responsible in that I not perpetuate those things to those younger than adult age.<\/p>\n
This brings me to my point regarding the now, lost fan.<\/p>\n
He wanted to join in on my gaming party and I said fine. After a few games, he said to me that he was 16. I immediately said to him, that I couldn’t game with him any longer and that after the current game we were in, he would need to leave the party.<\/p>\n
Now I’ll save you the immature rants he said after that.<\/p>\n
I will say that even though I, not a parent myself, I do not feel games with violence are appropriate for kids. Yes, I know Halo 5 is Teen rated.<\/p>\n
This goes a little further though. When I game, I of course get into the action. I, like many of you, may cuss during a match. That is something that I do not want to have a person under 18 hear from me, if it can be helped. Whether or not the kid says it’s okay with their parents is irreleveant to me. First, I would hope that cussing is NOT okay with parents. Second, I have no way of knowing if the kid is telling the truth or not, so I err on the side of caution.<\/p>\n
In NO WAY do I want to contribute to a minor’s upbringing like that. As well, I will NOT be held responsible when\/if a parent should get on the headset and try to berate me for my language. This didn’t happen last night, it’s just preemptive thinking on my part.<\/p>\n
Have I games with people under 18? Sure. Do I still? Rarely. I make a scant few exceptions. In fact, ATM, I can only think of one person I game with that is under 18 now. And he rarely games with me.<\/p>\n
Again folks, the point is that, while I try to keep things at PG-13 on the blog, sometimes aware post is of adult age. When I game, I do not want to feel like I have to censor myself when I know there are minors present. So I choose NOT to game with minors. That’s not me being mean or a jerk. Rather that is me actually caring about the welfare of the kid.<\/p>\n
