I received a set of this from Mega Brands for the purpose of this review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The front of the package shows the set in a cool action shot. I had to use Mega’s online graphic for this as my photo became corrupted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The back of the box shows the weapons included as well as a couple of other current sets available (at the time of this writing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the front of the box is this curious piece. It’s used as a locking mechanism for the box itself. It can be removed from the box with care. Though it’s not a standard piece. It has a lip on one side and a tab on the other. These to hope keep it secure in it’s position as the “lock” to this box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the box you get an instruction manual, 9 bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the bags includes the figures, printed pieces, and other various pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are all of the weapons included in this set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And here are all the printed pieces in the set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the pieces have been sorted out. Now, it’s time to build!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The printed instructions that come with the book show you how to build a micro Pelican, figure scale sized Mongoose and small outpost base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The build process for the Pelican is quite simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like that Mega brought back the original Mongoose build for this set. Nice throw-back to a simpler time in Halo Mega Bloks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The small outpost built from the instructions makes for a nice little set piece if you’re making a diorama. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Also included in the set are parts to build a turret. This turret is similar to turrets in the past. Though it’s a little stripped down of parts by not having the ammo container or bullet chain attached to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is the final build from the printed instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a LOT of leftover parts. What you do with them, is up to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next we move on to the figures.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Included is this Blue EVA Spartan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next is this very cool Gungnir Spartan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like the little extra detail to this figure. From the brown pouch on the chest armor to the fine details of the helmet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okay, now let’s look into the Alternate build.<\/strong> The following are made from instructions via the online APP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First up is this micro scale Warthog. The build of this is almost identical to the one that was included in the Micro Fleet Warthog Attack<\/a> set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next is the slightly bigger outpost build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I like the screen display and keypad printed parts here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I tried to build this alternate build from the leftover pieces. However, when I came to this step, the pieces (being pointed at by arrows) were not available, as they were part of original outpost. So I had to borrow them from that smaller outpost to finish this alternate build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outpost is almost complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The only thing added then was the top mounted gun. Here again, pieces from the first build would have to be used to complete the gun. Those being the little pins in the inset pic. I chose not to include them in the pic below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, for those of you who might want to reuse the land baseplate (like me), I took them off and used small 1×2 plates (included in the set).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summary: <\/strong>The set’s build time is short and can be done in one sitting, regardless if you’re making the build from the printed instructions or the APP.
Lots of leftover pieces allow for heavy customization of your own set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall Rating:\u00a0I give this set 8.5 out of 10 medals.
Why did I give it a 8.5 out of 10?<\/strong>
\u2022 The main reason I gave this set an 8.5 is that while there are a lot of pieces, the instructions do not make use of the vast majority of them. This leave you with lot of interpretation of what to make of the set. That might sound good. For me, I’d rather have a set that uses most of the parts. So with that said, this set could have had perhaps only 300 pieces, be able to build BOTH regular and alternate build completely and still be hold it’s value of $30.
\u2022 There are many pieces I found not having a need for. Some of these being clips and reverse slopes, for example.
\u2022 A minor point is the name of the set itself. I understand it, but it doesn’t really give off the vibe of “Halo”. Instead it just seems as if it’s a generic box of miscellaneous parts, bagged together to make something vaguely like Halo (micro builds notwithstanding).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a good set for those with imaginations that would like to build and rebuild it into other things. And I suppose that is who this is marketed to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s my opinion on the break down of the value of this set. (In US dollars)
<\/strong>\u2022 The amount of pieces at 450 versus the price at only $30 (US) defintinitely make this set better than average. Though the lack of instructions to use most of those parts in a single build do detract from it, IMO.
So I value the set at $40. More than it’s retail price of $30, but less than what I would normally have expected to pay for a set with that many pieces (between $45-50 dollars.)
TOTAL: $40 (before tax and in U.S. dollars)\u00a0<\/strong>

Do I recommend it?\u00a0\u00a0Yes. As a companion set to help build out your Halo dioramas, this set answrs the call nicely. There are plenty of leftover pieces to build another small building.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
