The Halo Bulletin 9.18.13

The Bulletin starts off first with news of the Halo 4 Ricochet Forge Contest.

Here’s the text from Halo Waypoint:

We’re happy to tell you that Certain Affinity’s Halo 4 Ricochet Forge Contest is currently underway and accepting submissions!

They’re looking for the six best community-created Ricochet maps on Forge Island, Ravine or Impact. Maps will be judged in phases by a panel of Certain Affinity members, Rooster Teeth members, Community Cartographers and individuals from 343 Industries. Not only will your map have a chance to be included in Halo 4 Matchmaking, but we’ve also got prizes. Oh yeah.

  • Certain Affinity T-shirt
  • Autographed Halo 4 Game of the Year Edition (signed by 343 Industries)
  • Halo 4 T-shirt

  • Rooster Teeth poster

For a full breakdown of the rules, technical musts of the contest, as well as advice for creating a top-notch Ricochet map, check out the contest page. We absolutely can’t wait to see what creations you come up with, and I am particularly looking forward to some new twists on Ricochet goal locations and map layouts. The top maps from the finals will be considered for placement into the Ricochet playlist. The submission time period will extends until 12:00 PM PT, October 8, 2013. Best of luck to all entrants!

Matchmaking Playlist Update:
Additional maps added to Ricochet playlist. Spawns, weapons and added geometry in select locations.
Team Doubles gets some more maps.

Team Throwdown Update:
We are evaluating ways to highlight players who stand out, as we see the playlist as the go-to proving ground for aspiring tournament-level players. While we do not yet have the specifics nailed down for this effort, we’d like to provide you with some behind-the-scenes vision into what we’re looking to do, which includes:

  • Provide consistent updates on Waypoint that identifies, displays, and recognizes top 4 vs. 4 talent in this playlist
  • Feature content, interviews, and other exclusives with top 4 vs. 4 players and teams
Next is a LENGTHY article of gamers who competed in the Halo 4 GC and their thoughts on respective parts of the competition.

Finally the bulletin ends with the usual screenshot spotlight. This week: Energy Sword.
I like the one named “Will of the Divine.”
As always, if you’d like to read the full bulletin, go to the official site HERE!

The Halo Bulletin 9-11-13

halobulletinheader_9-11-13BS Angel writes this week’s bulletin. The usual innuendo ensues. Mentions of other Halo projects that are not Halo for the XBOX One or the TV show, but no details given.

Next is a section about more playlist consolidation. Here is what is planned:
The playlists that will be available after the bulk of consolidation has been completed on 9/30 are as follows:
8v8 – Big Team Battle
5v5 – Capture the Flag
4v4 – Infinity Slayer (may be renamed to Team Slayer)
4v4 – SWAT
4v4 – Action Sack
4v4 – Team Snipers (next update on 9/30)
4v4 – Ricochet (next update on 9/16)
2v2 – Team Doubles (next update on 9/16)
8-player FFA – Rumble Pit
10-player FFA – Flood
Community Playlist: 4v4 – Team Throwdown (next update in October)
Community Playlist: 4v4 – Grifball

HFFL: GRRR, multi-team, King of the Hill, Oddball and Dominion are going away as full time playlists!!! Okay, I only need 30 more wins of Dominion to master that. So I’m going to need people to play that with me. I want to master that before it goes into “rotational” play.

Speaking of…

2013 Tentative Rotational Playlist Schedule
9/30 – King of the Hill (I only need a few more wins here to, so anyone else shooting for commendations, let’s game together to work towards a mutual goal.)
10/14 – Oddball
10/28 – Forge Playlist (specifics coming soon) Hmm, interesting.
11/11 – Multi-Team (Sigh…I hope this turns into 4 teams of 3, but I doubt it.)
11/25 – Dominion (Sigh again. I just hope I master this before it goes into rotation. I don’t want to have to wait 2 months to play it again.)
12/9 – Race YES!
12/23 – Rocket Race DOUBLE YES!!! (Mongoose kills now??? PLEASE do NOT be Warthog Race.)

ONE piece of great news is FINALLY we will be getting a standard DLC playlist.

Some refreshing news for Spartan Ops. ‘Grunt Birthday Party,’ ‘I Would Have Been Your Daddy,’ and ‘Mythic’ Skulls will be enabled soon. Hmm, I want to see how IWHBYD affects the dialog. I suspect this will be for the RvB easter eggs only. I’ll definitely play this again while Mythic is active. I definitely want more of a challenge in Spartan Ops.

There may be a increase in difficulty for reaching a ’50’ in Team Throwdown.
As well, there may be a second weapons tuning.

That’s the nuts and bolts of the bulletin. If you want to read the full bulletin, go HERE.

With all of those changes to the playlists, all I can say is, I miss the good old days of Team Objective. Would be nice to have a 4v4 playlist like that to include CTF, Oddball, King of the Hill, and instead of the old VIP, add team Regicide.

The Halo Bulletin 9-5-13

halobulletinheader_9-4-13The bulletin starts off with the road to the finals of the Halo 4 Global Championship. It’s a recap of the RTX, On-line, and Gamescom qualifiers.

Next up is of course the expected H4GC finals:

halogc_finalsBravo recounts the days leading up to and including the finals event. Interestingly enough, Ace, the eventual winner ALMOST didn’t even play in the PAX rounds. He barely made it in time to register and compete.

Matchmaking Playlist Update:

2000 XP
Raise the Flag: Win 5 matchmaking Capture the Flag matches.
4000 XP

Gungnir Pulse

Helmets
Locus
Deadeye (and the only helmet I do not have from the pre-orders at present)

Light Rifle Imprint

This is a GREAT deal for those who don’t have the game yet. For those that do and have not bought any of the DLC, it’s a great deal as well. ALl the DLC and all but the FOTUS preorder armor. ON that note, I am happy that FOTUS is not parts of this offer. Everything else was free with pre-orders. The FOTUS could ONLY be had if you bought the limited edition Halo 4 XBOX. That truly was limited and exclusive.

And finally, as usual the bulletin ends with a Screenshot Spotlight. This week: Pitfall!
There are some pretty cool shots in this one.

The Halo Bulletin 8.21.13

halobulletinheader_8-21-13First up in this week’s bulletin Bravo does the majority of the write-up. He starts with asking fellow 343ers about which parts of the CHampions BUndle pack they like the most. Here’s BS Angel’s for example:
bs-angel_card

He goes on to ask others with graphics for them posted as well.
Waypoint has been updated to include the new armor and if you have Kinect you can check out your new armor in Spartan Reflection.

Next up the Halo 4 Global Championship.
gcoq-logo

Before I get into this part of the bulletin, I want to state how dissatisfied I am with how this has been run. The whole controversy over Connor White (aka Giggle Monstat aka ChilliestName48) has been avoided and trying to be swept under the rug. Shame to all parties involved for not dealing with this issue head on.

Okay, now back to the bulletin:
“Only the most dedicated players can say that they’ll be heading to Seattle in just over a week.” Um, sorry folks….not dedicated unless you mean most skilled or who cheated their way in. I’d consider myself pretty damn dedicated to Halo. Am I going? Nope. Didn’t get an invite either. sigh…

A list of the names of confirmed winners from weeks 2-4 are liste. Week 5 winners will be notified shortly.

Good news if you’re already attending PAX, Waypoint will be giving away 10 final spots to the championship invite bracket via Twitter. I’d love to win that. Doubtful I’d be picked though.

Gamescom details:
gamescom_logo_660

A quick note about when/where you can participate in the in-person portion of the Halo 4 Global Championship is given. If you’re there, I hope you play and make it in. I’d love to see a HFFL reader in the finals!

Halo 4 Global Championship Finals

overview-logoThis is follow up info we mostly know, like where it’s being held at. They will be streaming this: http://www.Twitch.tv/343Industries
On Sunday, you will be able to view the championship via XBOX LIVE. This starts 7pm EST Sept 1. Hosts for the tournament will be Marjor Nelson (Larry Hyrb), Blair Herter and Jessica Chobot. Goldenboy and Bravo will be doing the color commentating, post-match interviews and highlights.

In amongst all of this will be XBOX One exclusives, Rooster Teeth shorts, music acts and more. Those spectating live at PAX can win either an XBOX One or UNSC themed Surface Pro via a RvB Sweepstakes. You can also enter via twitter using the hashtag #Halo4GC

Matchmaking Playlist Update
Already Ricochet is getting an update. Scoring will go to 200. Good move, IMO. Games can be way too short with only 150, given the current scoring.

We will be getting a Ricochet specific playlist starting Sept 3. Limited time only though 🙁
The following maps will be available to play in the Ricochet playlist:

• Pitfall
• Monolith
• Skyline
• Haven
• Adrift
• Solace

Ricochet will also be coming to Multi-team on Sept 3 as well.

Playlist Consolidation
As previously mentioned Regicide has moved to the Rumble Pit playlist and now Legendary Slayer will move into the Infinity Slayer playlist. Legendary BRs will be part of this. YEAH!!!

Finally the weekly Screenshot Spotlight. This week’s subject, the Mongoose.

The Halo Bulletin 8.14.13

halobulletinheader_8-14-13

We start off with the Matchmaking Playlist Update. There will be updates on both Monday AND Tuesday. Monday will be current playlist updates and the Armor Mod Update. Tuesday will bring us the Champions Bundle DLC content and playlist.

Halo 4 Armor Mod Update (text taken directly from Halo Waypoint):

Next Monday, we will release two additional armor mods free of charge for you to enjoy, and we’ll be using a Title Update to deliver them. These will be released one day before the Champions Bundle launches on Tuesday, and you’ll immediately be able to incorporate these new Support Upgrades into your Loadouts and dominate.

  • Recharge: New Support Upgrade available to all players
Recharge decreases the time it takes for your shields to recharge.
  • Survivor: New Support Upgrade available to all players
Survivor ejects you out of a vehicle if it’s about to explode.

We hope you enjoy using these complimentary Support Upgrades in your Loadouts starting next Monday. As a reminder, the Champions Bundle will include a sneak peek of the Resistor Tactical Package, which allows players to retain full mobility despite taking fire for a few short moments. This armor mod will eventually be made available to all players in Halo 4 Matchmaking free of charge.

Before we dive into how the Champions Bundle will be showcased in Halo 4 Matchmaking, we’ve got some other changes that are coming in Monday’s update. For starters, the Global Championship online qualifier will be coming to a close, and the Rumble Pit playlist will return as the premiere FFA offering. Based on community feedback, we’ve also made some changes. Rumble Pit will have a total of 15 new voting options including new Slayer game types, new objective game types (King of the Hill and Oddball) and Regicide, which is being consolidated and will now exclusively be available in the Rumble Pit playlist.

HFFL: Dang, this sucks regarding the news for Regicide for me. I STILL need to max out those commendations so I can get the Kingslayer emblem so I can finally start filming on my MaC Rounds web series. Looks like I’ll be heading into Rumble Pit now. Oh for joy… <–sarcasm alert

The following Slayer and objective game types from the Halo 4 Global Championship playlist will be added to the Rumble Pit offerings:

Haven Oddball
Skyline Rumble BRs
Simplex Rumble BRs
Abandon King of the Hill
Landfall King of the Hill

While the above game types will add variety to the playlist, a Slayer game type will always be present in the first voting slot. As always, we want to know your thoughts on these game types and what else you’d like to see in Rumble Pit. Head over to the Rumble Pit Feedback Thread next week to join the conversation.

In Spartan Ops Matchmaking, we’ll be offering a selection of Forerunner-themed missions:

Episode 1, Chapter 3: The Challenge
Episode 1, Chapter 4: Sacred
Episode 2, Chapter 5: Gagarin
Episode 5, Chapter 1: Spartan Miller
Episode 5, Chapter 2: Nothing Can Go Wrong

We’ll also be removing Crimson DLC in preparation for the Champions Bundle the following day. Speaking of…

Halo 4 Champions Bundle

championsbundle_660

This bundle releases on Aug 20 for 800 MSP.

Following text again from Halo Waypoint:

Next, let’s talk about what Matchmaking will look like come next Tuesday.

The Champions Bundle will have its own playlist in Matchmaking. It will offer a varied selection of 4 vs. 4 game types and be the only place to play the brand new game type, Ricochet for the first two weeks, and new maps Pitfall and Vertigo. The map / game type offering is as follows:

  • Pitfall Infinity Slayer
  • Pitfall Slayer Pro
  • Pitfall Ricochet
  • Pitfall Capture the Flag
  • Vertigo Infinity Slayer
  • Vertigo Slayer Pro
  • Vertigo Extraction
  • Vertigo King of the Hill

We hope you enjoy this mix of game types.

Next is the Halo 4 Global Championship. This section covers the fifth/final week of qualifiers and shows the current leaderboard as of 8.14.13 at 5:45PM.

HFFL: More invites to the finals were given out, this time to a select few Halo communities. From Halo Waypoint: “As a thank you for their dedication and contributions to the greater Halo universe, several well-known and competitive gaming communities have also received a specified amount of invites each…” Sadly, I was not included in this. While I am admittedly jealous of those sites who got the invitations, I do hope one of their folks is able to pull off the upset and win this thing. I SO want a NON-Pro player to win!

Finally as always the bulletin ends with a Screenshot Spotlight. This time the subject matter is: GREEN

If You want to read the full bulletin, go to the official Halo Waypoint website here.

The Halo Bulletin 7.25.13

halobulletinheader_7-24-13This week’s update starts with a recap of SDCC 2013. While we were promised something “Mega” at SDCC, the event left us wondering what the heck the “Mega” surprise was. Was it the release of Halo: Spartan Assault? Was it the Mega Bloks full sized Promethean Knight? Both of which were cool in their own right, but not what people were thinking of when they read “Mega.” I for one was hoping to see some Halo XBOX One stuff, or the Halo tv show to come with XBOX one.

Anyway, so the recap goes over the panels, first gameplay on the Champions Bundle pack, and Spartan Assault gameplay.

Next we have three new screenshots from the Champions Bundle pack showing off the armor being introduced (or in one instance re-introduced) into Halo.

h4 champions bundle_on the move_660
Prefect Armor
h4 champions bundle_drop shock_660ODST Armor – I am SO looking forward to this armor!
h4 champions bundle_caves_660
Ricochet Armor. (Note the subtle Seattle Seahawk reference with this armor color? LOL)

Now I wonder, why wasn’t the Mark V armor not shown? Also, the map shown for both the Prefect and Ricochet…is that Vertigo? If so, it’s from an angle I’ve not seen before. Makes me curious if this is a different map? I really don’t recall seeing these views in any of the several video flythroughs that I’ve watched.

Next up in the Bulletin is a gallery of the SDCC Champions Bundle Competition.

Next is an update on the Halo 4 Global Championship tourney. (Which BTW, has changed since they posted this update. The top ten as of this post are as follows:

Screen shot 2013-07-25 at 2.15.17 AM

Now we move on to the Matchmaking Playlist Update. This is really all about what NEXT week’s Halo 4 GC modes are going to be:

We’re looking forward to showcasing Rumble Pro and Rumble BRs in week 3 of the Global Championship. The upcoming week will likely be the most competitive because the gameplay is focused on precision rifle usage and map control, with motion tracker enabled and personal ordnance disabled. The map variants for this week will be identical to week 1: Adrift, Abandon, Solace, Haven, Monolith, Skyline, and Landfall. Both game types will be available across the maps, with identical initial ordnance and on-map weapon locations. Best of luck to all week 3 competitors, and enjoy your Double XP!

Here are the other weekly playlist updates:

In Spartan Ops, we are offering a selection of Covenant enemy themed missions:
Episode 1, Mission 1: Land Grab
Episode 1, Mission 2: Sniper Alley
Episode 2, Mission 2: For Science
Episode 2, Mission 3: Hacksaw
Episode 2, Mission 4: Pelican Down

Lockdown in the Dominion playlist has been updated with several changes. To allow for an optimized attack / defend dynamic, motion tracker has been disabled, and auto-turrets and shield doors have been removed. These updates will make it more difficult to defend a base, and result in more back-and-forth style gameplay. Lastly, we’ve also made some updates to Legendary Slayer:

  • On Haven, the Rocket Launcher is now updated to have one spare clip instead of two.
  • On Adrift, the Spartan Lasers have been replaced by Sniper Rifles.
Lastly as ever, the bulletin ends with a Screenshot Spotlight. This week’s subject? FUNNY!
There are actually some pretty good shots in the gallery, so I suggest taking a look see.
To read the full bulletin, go to the site.
And as always for everything Halo, not just the games, but toys, novels, fan related content and more, stick with HaloFanForLife.com.

The Halo Bulletin 7.17.13

halobulletinheader_7-17-13

The bulletin starts off with talk of San Diego Comicon.

If you are going to SDCC and have a pass, swing by the lounge from 11 AM to 8 PM PDT Thursday through Saturday or 11 AM until 5 PM PDT on Sunday to get your hands on both upcoming releases of Halo: Spartan Assault and the Champions Bundle pack.

Tune in to 343’s official Twitch channel on Friday and Saturday from 6 to 8 PM PDT for a LIVE look at the Champions Bundle.

343 will be having a panel at SDCC:
Inside the Looking Glass: Building “Halo” Worlds and Wonders, Past, Present and Future
Room 6BCF, San Diego Convention Center
Thursday, July 18, 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM PDT

Panel Description:
Join Franchise Development Director Frank O’Connor, Executive Producer Dan Ayoub, and other 343 Industries guests as they celebrate the launch and discuss the exciting new addition to the Halo universe (Halo: Spartan Assault), the new comic book series from Dark Horse Comics (Halo: Initiation) and more.

Next up is something that the Halo collector inside me is both excited and depressed about.

Halo Collectible Pins at SDCC:
pins

We’ll also be giving away Halo-themed collectible pins this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. To start collecting, begin at the Halo area of the Xbox Lounge in the Hyatt. Demo the Halo 4 Champions Bundle, and there you will receive your starter pack which consists of a Halo lanyard, pin and pin card. Then, play a round of Halo: Spartan Assault, stop by our Halo panel and head to our partners’ booths on the show floor to collect the rest of the pins. Supplies are extremely limited, so make sure to start your day early at the Xbox Lounge!

HFFL: Ugh, I WANTS! I LOVE collecting Pins. I have a nice collection of Halo pins already. THESE are going to be freakin’ HARD to get! UGH, and I won’t have the money to bid for them on ePAY, er eBay… (Cause you just know there are going to be people scalping these) I hate buying from scalpers, but asking someone to round up all of the pins for me is extremely unlikely and would prolly cost a small fortune…

Halo 4 Global Championship Update:

San Diego Comicon deals at the official Halo Waypoint store!

fb-halo-sdcc13

Text from HaloWaypoint.com:
SDCC is kicking off and the only way we could be more excited is if we knew all of you could be here enjoying it with us. For those who can’t make it to San Diego, we hope this counts as some kind of consolation: All art, tees and hoodies are on sale, only during San Diego Comic-Con.

Now is the time to buy. They don’t often have sales.
Wish I could afford to get one of those sweet “CAMS” t-shirts! Damn, it sux to be unemployed…

The Halo Bulletin 7-11-13

halobulletinheader_7-10-13

This week’s bulletin is PACKED (Bundle packed you might say) with goodness!

As expected there  is a brief recap of RTX 2013.

rtx_h4_mainstage_660What a great display for the Halo 4 Global Championship tournament to be shown on!

Below is a pic of the 343 staff as well as the 6 finalists of the RTX qualifier.
finalistsandstaff_660

Next up is the REAL MEAT of the bulletin. The “Champions” bundle pack. While I went over this in decent detail over the weekend, now we have the official news and names of stances, bonus weapons skins and so on.

championsbundle_660The Champions Bundle contains three DLC packs, as well as bonus content, including:

  • Bullseye Pack (Includes Ricochet, a new game type)
  • Steel Skin Pack
  • Infinity Armor Pack
  • Bonus content, including new stances, armor and weapon skins, and a new armor mod

All of this content makes the Champions Bundle unique from other DLC, and each of the aforementioned packs can be purchased separately or as a group. For example, if you’re most interested in the Bullseye pack, you can download it as a separate piece. However, bonus content is included with the entire bundle.

As I reported over the weekend the two new maps are Vertigo and Pitfall, the latter a remake of the Pit.

To illustrate the difference here are two graphics showing the classic Pit beside the newly modeled Pitfall:
01_pitfall_newbase_66002_pitfall_newbase_660

Pitfall look fantastic. It stay very true to the original, with a scant few changes. Aesthetically, the Pit never looked better. I can’t wait to play on this!

Along with Pitfall comes a new game type, Ricochet. Scoring a goal by tossing in the ball nets your team 20 pts, while running it in nets you 50 pts. I just KNOW there are going to be Ricochet leagues starting from this. Hmm, I might just look to start a HFFL team if there is interest.

There is also the Ricochet armor. I’m told this armor is usable anywhere, not just within the Ricochet game type. Though I believe that while playing Ricochet, your spartan’s armor will default to that, much as when playing flood you default to a flood if infected.

Here’s a better look at that armor:
ricochetpack

Speaking of armors, again as I reported on, there are three armors coming with “Champions.” The long awaited return of the Mark V and ODST armors have seen maybe a Halo fan squeal with delight. No that was NOT me squealing..Promise… As well there is a very cool Forerunner-equse armor called Prefect.

Check them out below along with some technical info about them:
armorpack
MARK V Armor
DESIGNATION: MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor System [GEN1] – MARK V
MANUFACTURER: Materials Group
TESTING SITE: Damascus, Vhalkem – CHI CETI IV

ODST Armor
DESIGNATION: MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor System [GEN2] – ORBITAL DROP SHOCK TROOPER
MANUFACTURER: Cascade Stronghold Technologies
TESTING SITE: Mindoro, Lhopat – CASCADE

PREFECT Armor
DESIGNATION: MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor System [GEN2] – PREFECT
MANUFACTURER: The Watershed Division
TESTING SITE: Denegroth, West Conamara – EUROPA

Next the Steel Weapons skin pack:
steelskinpack_660
I have to say these look SLICK as HELL!

Now along with the Maps, Armor, and Weapons packs which you can buy separately, if you buy the WHOLE bundle, you get the following bonus content:

Bonus Weapons skins:
unscskins_660

Okay, so a couple of changes here. Gone are the additional DMR skins. The blue one I’m okay with being gone as it is similar to the McFarlane toy release code coming early fall. The one I’m disappointed not being in here when it was just shown this weekend is the Tiger Stripe skin. THAT looked cool as hell.

Still, I LOVE that blood splattered AR. I see that one being used a LOT! As well the Teeth AR Skin is really cool.

Eight not seven stances as I reported. Looks like they held one out on us from RTX.
stances
Definitely liking these stances. Okay, now which to use??? I’ll likely use Loyalty for awhile, though the Captain Morgan er…Lookout pose will be used for sure at some point. As I mentioned, the Han Solo pose, seen here as “Drawn” is in. That is a VERY classic pose from Star Wars. I being a fan of that franchise since it first came out, I KNOW it will get some use in my player card.

Bonus Armor Skins:
Five new armor skins:
• Tracer
• Column
• Python
• Bayonet
• Solid

Hmm, so let me think aloud here what those skins might look like:
• Tracer – I foresee this having small lines all over the armor, thus giving the appearance of tracer bullets.
• Column – Hmm, now if this is for Seventh Column… Otherwise, I”m a bit clueless as to what this could be.
• Python – Cobra from GI Joe! LOL. Seriously though. I know they are two different kinds of snakes, but wouldn’t it just be cool if we got a symbol that was Cobra like on the chest plate?
• Bayonet – This I see as having blade like markings, especially on the forearms.
• Solid – Hmm, maybe rivets?

In any event, Im glad to see yet more skins coming.

Halo 4 Armor Mod update:
In addition to the Halo 4 Champions Bundle bonus content, we’ll be releasing two additional armor mods free of charge for the community to enjoy. We’re currently planning on releasing these one day before the Champions Bundle releases on August 20, and you’ll immediately be able to incorporate these new mods into your loadout and experiment with them.

• Survivor ejects you out of a vehicle if it’s about to explode.
• Recharge decreases the time it takes for your shields to recharge.

Also, Resistor Tactical Package. The Champions Bundle will include a sneak peek to the Resistor armor mod, which allows players to retain full mobility despite taking fire for a few moments. The armor mod will eventually be made available to all players in Halo 4 Matchmaking free of charge.

Now for the Matchmaking Playlist Update.
It’s all about the Halo 4 Global Championship.

The Halo 4 Global Championship online qualifiers are about to begin! If you have not yet registered for the tournament, head here to get signed up. The online portion of the tournament will include five weeks of gameplay, with new winners, game types and prizes each week. For a recap of the details of the Halo 4 Global Championship online qualifier and scoring system, check out last week’s Halo Bulletin. As a reminder, we’re using a scoring system that ranks you based on your performance across all of your matches.

Online qualifier scoring system, by placement:

1st – 8 points
2nd – 7 points
3rd – 6 points
4th – 5 points
5th – 4 points
6th – 3 points
7th – 2 points
8th – 1 points
Quit – 0 points

Over the course of all of your games, your average will be calculated. For example, a player who plays and wins 20 matches during a week of the Halo 4 Global Championship is given an average score of 8 points. A player who places first in 19 matches and places second in match 20 receives an average score of 7.95.

In the event that two players are tied with the same average at the end of the week (or at any point during the week), the leaderboard will automatically use the following tie breakers to determine each player’s rank:

  • Most games played
  • Most first-place finishes
  • Most kills
  • Fewest deaths
  • Most assists
  • Fewest quits
  • Earliest date and time of first qualifying game played
  • Earliest date and time of tournament registration

For example, if the top two players for week 1 both have an average (perfect) score of 8, the player who plays (and wins) a twenty-first game would be ranked higher for having more games played as well as more first-place finishes. However, keep in mind that if that player places even as low as second in match 21, that player’s average would drop below 8. This system maintains a high-skill factor and leaves no room for error or loss at the top of the leaderboard. In the event that two players have 21 games won, the next tiebreaker would be most total kills for the week, then fewest deaths for the week, and so on. These tiebreakers ensure that the players who perform the best across all of their games will advance to the finals.

As announced last week, the game type for our first week of competition will be Infinity Rumble, which has received some subtle tweaks for tournament gameplay. Here are the full details:

This game type will be played on the following maps, which have been updated and modified with optimized respawn points, initial ordnance and on-map weapons:

  • Haven
  • Solace
  • Adrift
  • Abandon
  • Landfall
  • Monolith
  • Skyline

The Halo 4 Global Championship playlist will be available at the top of the War Games Lobby playlists and will use new parameters and settings that are optimized for competition. Also, the Global Championship playlist will replace the Rumble Pit playlist during the tournament. Here’s some of the things you can expect in the playlist each week:

  • There will be no map voting in the playlist. Once you search and find a match, a map will be auto-selected and a three-second countdown will begin, during which players will not be able to leave or “back out.” Leaving the lobby or game through any method after this point will be counted as a Quit.
  • After the game concludes, you’ll have an opportunity to view your post-game stats, and then you’ll be returned to the War Games Lobby rather than another searching phase. This will ensure that players do not accidentally hop straight into another game. To hop back in, simply search the playlist again.
  • Join-in-Progress is disabled throughout the entirety of the tournament.
  • The Max Party Size is 1, restricting players to solo-searching.

Each week’s winners will undergo a full account and game history investigation. As a result, we will not be announcing the official winners immediately at the end of each week. Wait for the official winner announcement on Halo Waypoint each week. Best of luck to all Global Championship competitors! Be sure to tag your tweets with #Halo4GC throughout the tournament. We’ll be retweeting our favorites from the Halo Waypoint account!

Next up word of Legendary Slayer:

At PAX East, we announced that we were working on a new playlist named Legendary Slayer. After much iteration, discussion and playtesting, we’re excited to announce that it is (almost!) here and (almost!) ready for your enjoyment. Legendary Slayer is a variant that focuses on basic gameplay with only one loadout, on-map weapons and motion tracker enabled. Here are the key settings:

  • 4 vs. 4 Slayer
  • Default starting weapon (Assault Rifle)
  • No Armor Abilities
  • Motion Tracker enabled
  • All weapons and grenades located on map (no initial, random or personal ordnance)

The singular loadout is:

  • Starting weapon: Assault Rifle
  • Secondary weapon: None
  • Armor Ability: None
  • Grenades: Frag x2
  • Support upgrade: Explosives
  • Tactical package: Resupply

We’re excited to deliver a brand-new experience to Halo 4 Matchmaking that will focus on even starting weapons and map control, with players fighting to gain control of all rifles, power weapons and each map’s power positions. The Legendary Slayer playlist launches Monday, July 15, on the following maps, which have been custom-created specifically for this playlist:

  • Haven
  • Solace
  • Adrift
  • Abandon
  • Landfall
  • Monolith
  • Skyline
  • Shutout

As always, we’ll keep a close eye on community feedback and Matchmaking statistics for this playlist and are very excited to play with you! Lastly, Crimson DLC will be replacing Majestic DLC as our featured DLC playlist. We will continue to monitor the population and activity of this playlist as we rotate and optimize DLC content in Halo 4 Matchmaking.

San Diego Comic-con 2013:

As you may have seen on Major Nelson’s Blog, we’ll be at the Xbox Gaming Lounge at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con! Both Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo 4 Champions Bundle will be playable in the lounge. We’ll have Ricochet, Pitfall and Vertigo playable for the first time ever, with prizes and giveaways. We’ll also be running mini-tournaments on the new maps and game type from 5:30 to 8:00 PM PDT on Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21. You’ll need an SDCC pass to enter the lounge. We hope to see you there!

Additionally, we’ll have a panel that will provide some insight into the making and fiction of Halo: Spartan Assault:

Inside the Looking Glass: Building “Halo” Worlds and Wonders, Past, Present and Future
Room 6BCF, San Diego Convention Center
Thursday, July 18, 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM PDT

And finally as always, the Bulletin ends with a Screenshot Spotlight, this one on the Mark VI armor.

To read the full bulletin go to the official site (though truthfully, this is one time where I copy/paster much of the bulletin, so you won’t get much more there other than the Screenshot spotlight.)
