Spartan Ops Season One Graphic Novel completed! (all 10 episode comic books in one document)

It’s here! Whew. This is the OFFICIAL article for replying to the Spartan Ops Graphic Novel contest. See this link for contest rules.

Spartan Ops Season One Graphic Novel COVER_sm

Download the full resolution Spartan Ops Season One Graphic Novel. The file is in PDF format. (This file is nearly 160mb, so it’s going to take some time to download.)

My thanks and a dedication:

First and foremost, I’d like to thank my wife for putting up with my many late night and well into the morning hours I put into this project. Secondly, thanks to BS Angel for her kind responses to the series. Thirdly, POD Dust Storm of podtacular.com. He and I spent many hours playing and replaying missions in Spartan Ops.Sometimes for fun, but mostly for research. Over the course of several months I co-hosted on his podcast with regards to Spartan Ops episodes and missions. Thanks Dust, it was a BLAST. Fourthly and most certainly not least, you the readers. I loved getting messages from you with nice things to say. There were times when I was wondering if people were reading these comic books. Through BS Angel’s promotion of them on HaloWaypoint.com as well as the previously mentioned podtacular.com, I think I can call this a success.

I want to dedicate this graphic novel to 343 in general for developing Halo 4. Specifically the team of folks who worked on Spartan Ops, including David Ellis and Chris Haluke. (Apologies that I don’t know all of the Spartan Ops team or they would have all been mentioned.)

This 300 page graphic novel is brought to you free by HaloFanForLife.com. If you have enjoyed the individual comic books and/or this graphic novel and would like to donate to the blog, please feel free to send a donation via paypal to: [email protected]. Any and all donations are graciously accepted.

I had a lot of fun creating this comic book series and graphic novel. Along the way I Photoshopped more than 1500 screenshots, not all of them making the final cut. The total time spent on the 10 episode series of comic books and graphic novel was over 200 hours.

While I started off fairly new to comic book design, I’ve been a graphic designer and production artist for more than 15 years. I’d like to think that over these past few months I was able to improve the design of each successive comic book. You be the judge of that though by leaving a reply below.

Now bring on Season TWO!

Spartan Ops Season one Graphic Novel update.

It’s been a BUSY weekend here at HFFL. Work is progressing on the complete season one graphic novel. I’m about 95% of the way done (literally, not just pulling that number out of thin air). Sunday’s HFFL community Playdate did cut into the time I could have spent working on the Graphic Novel, however, I wanted to have that time with friends and fans alike. To which, I do want to thank all of those who came out for the playdate. I had some great fun, especially being GREEN!

Back to the Graphic Novel and contest for a minute. The contest as stated before is for blog subscribers only. You need to register here to be eligible for the prize packet of McFarlane series 2 Avatar figures. While normal retail would be around $30 for the set, since they are blind packaging, not to mention there are two rare ones within the eight made for this series, you’d be hard pressed to pull all eight in on shot. The Gold Master Chief and Warthog prop from the first series of Avatar figs from McFarlane are hard to find.  The Gold Master Chief goes for around $17-20 on eBay, while the Warthog isn’t even listed as of this writing. Suffice to say the Gold ODST and Banshee will also be hard to come by and for cheap, let along FREE. Again, this is the chance to win the whole set of eight minifigures and prop vehicle.

To win, you will need to download the Spartan Ops season one graphic novel. From there, you will need to identify how many NEW pages I put in the graphic novel versus the original ten comic books. As well, you will need to identify which pages they are by page number.

For example, the cover will be all new, so that would be one page and page one per description. Another example would be (and this is NOT the correct answer)

5 new pages – page numbers 1, 7, 30, 35, 60

The above is how I’d like for you to format your answer for the contest. To enter, you must reply to the official contest article that I will be posting soon. It will be labeled as the official contest article, so it won’t be hard to miss. Shipping for the prize packet is at the winner’s expense. If you are under 18 years of age you must have written permission to enter. (I will need to see a hand written note (can be sent as a scan by e-mail) by your parent or guardian giving permission to enter. Over 18 no note needed, LOL. (Well, unless you want to…)

Any questions, please either reply to this article or e-mail me at: [email protected]

Spartan Ops Season One High Res PDF coming soon! and Contest to go with it…

Now that all 10 episodes of season one are out and I’ve made the comic books for each, I’m now making a graphic novel of all ten comics. The final result will be about 300 (yes three-hundred) pages long. Needless to say the file size is going to be “ginormous.”

I have to finish compiling all the pages as well as create a new cover for the full season graphic novel. I hope to have this completed over the weekend, if not by Monday. The file will be as a PDF. Again, it will be HUGE. I’m talking nearly 200mb possibly.

This file will be of better quality than the individual comics I’ve released as those were only 72dpi per page. The new file will be 200dpi per page. I could push it to 300dpi, but that would make the file size that much more massive…

So stay tuned to HaloFanForLife.com over the weekend. There will be a contest associated with the file. (So yes, you’ll need to download it) The prize will be…

A complete set of McFarlane series 2 Avatar figures! (Yes, with the Banshee AND Gold ODST included.)

Only blog subscribers will be eligible for this prize packet. So if you want a shot at this, you’ve got to register! Twitter followers and Facebook subscribers, register on the blog. Responses to the contest via Twitter and/or Facebook are not eligible to win.

More info on the graphic novel and contest VERY SOON!

HaloFanForLife’s first ever Charity Tournament update RULES and more INFO.

Okay folks here are the rules and other info for the tournament, same applied to both 4v4 and 2v2 tournaments unless otherwise specified:

• Players must use a legitimate gamertag, no guests will be accepted, no exceptions.
• Tournaments are best of three, single elimination.
• Your team is allowed no more than 10 minutes late time from the time posted for your match. If you fail to show up as a full team, you are immediately disqualified (no half teams going into matches, for example).
• Payment to enter tournament must be sent by whomever is designated the team leader. The person will also be the team leader in the competition.
• If interested in submitting your team/payment, contact me at [email protected] and I will then give you the paypal e-mail address to send payment to. Paypal is the only form of payment I will receive.
• Entries into the competition can be taken up to February 9, 2013 at noon Easter time.
• While I can’t enforce this, I ask that you all be on good behavior. Remember you are representing yourself, your team, this competition and keep in mind that the charity if for kids. To that end, please refrain from using any improper language in lobbies and games. And please no t-bagging. Again, I can’t enforce that, but it is very much appreciated if you don’t do those things.
• The maps to be played on will be available on my fileshare sometime during January 26. They will be labeled as:
–  HFFL 4v4 slayer
–  HFFL 4v4 CTF
–  HFFL 4v4 Oddball
–  HFFL 4v4 Regicide
–  HFFL 2v2 slayer
–  HFFL 2v2 CTF
–  HFFL 2v2 Oddball
–  HFFL 2v2 Regicide
Be sure to download both the map and gametype for each.
• Do not look to exploit maps. I will be in the game lobbies to start and will load the maps from my fileshare. Anyone caught cheating will disqualify their team from competition. Each match must be save in the team leader’s fileshare so I can review them if there are any objections. Let’s keep this to a minimum here folks, this is to be a friendly competition to raise awareness and money for charity.
• Tournament schedule will be posted on the blog the Friday, 2/15/13 before the tournament starts.
• The 2v2 tournament will start at 3pm the Saturday of the tournament weekend 2/16/13.
• The 4v4 tournament will start at 3pm the Sunday of the tournament weekend 2/17/13.
• Be sure that your team is available for the rest of the day as I’m not sure how long it may take to get through the tournament.
• As matches conclude, I will update the tournament bracket so that each team knows who they will be facing off against in the next tier should they win.
• In the event of a ties, the team to FIRST get to the tied amount will win.
– For example if a slayer match goes 480-480, the team to get to 480 first will win. This can be verified through HaloWaypoint.com. As well for objective matches if a game goes 2-2 CTF, the team that captures the flag for the second time FIRST would win. Should Oddball be a tie, the team that reaches the final tying score first would win.
So in this respect it is VERY important that you go for the win as fast as you can, as a tie may not go in your favor.

If there is anything I missed, PLEASE reply or shoot me an e-mail [email protected].

I want to make sure all relative questions are answered.

HaloFanForLife’s first ever Charity Tournament!

Hello there folks and thanks for taking the time to check out this very important article.

I’ve been wanting to hold a charity event for some time now. With some recent happenings behind me, I feel I can now give my full attention to doing this. I’d like to announce HaloFanForLife.com’s first ever charity tournament.

I’ve selected Autism Speaks.

You may have heard of Autism, but what is it really? Well check out this link to find out specifically what Autism is. I’ve selected this charity for two reasons. One as a person who suffers from depression and anxiety myself, I found that while not the same, I have similar attributes as those with Autism. Certainly when I was a kid the symptoms of Autism applied a lot to me. But I won’t go into detail there. Also, a friend of mine I highly respect, Andrew Sparkes, Vice President Kids & Collector Brands at Mega Brands, through Mega Brands has donated to this charity as well. So what better way to honor a person I truly admire and respect than to donate to the same charity he supports?

Mega Brands is a licensee of Halo toys and develops the awesome Halo Mega Bloks building sets that I review here on the site.

Okay, so how about the tournament info you ask? Glad you asked, here’s the details at present.

There will be two tournaments.
• 4v4 single elimination
• 2v2 single elimination

Games played will be on custom maps, a couple of which I’ve created (don’t worry, I take great pains to create good maps that work).

Depending on the number of entries will depend on the gametypes played.

First round will be slayer.
Second round, CTF
Third round, Oddball
Fourth round, Team Regicide

That’s if there are enough teams to dictate the need for that many rounds. If there is a need for more rounds (wouldn’t that be awesome) those will be slotted in.

As for prizes, I’m still determining that. At the moment it looks to be a take of the money raised, though truthfully, I’d love to give away prizes instead and give all the money to Autism Speaks. However, at present, I’m not able to grant prizes, unless there is a prize donor that comes forth. So if it comes to monetary prizes, 1st place will receive 20% of the take in monies raised and second place 5%  (for each specific tourney).

No guests are allowed to enter. Each player must have a verifiable gamertag.

[UPDATE] (Date changed to a week later as I forgot that I’ll be in New York covering New York Toy Fair the weekend of February 9…) The Tournament will start on the weekend of February 16, 2013. So there is plenty of time to get your team together.  If interested in signing up for the tournament, please e-mail me at [email protected].

Custom maps to be played on will be available to download from my fileshare: HaloFanForLife1 on the weekend of January 26, so you’ll have three weeks in which to practice on those maps.

I’ll have the rules in detail for the tournaments soon. In the meantime, please pass the word around and let’s raise awareness and funds for Autism Speaks!

UPDATE: Rules and more info now posted below!

Color me this. A Halo coloring contest…

Okay, I’m going to start this out as a contest and see how it goes. Starting today, you have one week to color in the below pic and send it back to me. Registered subscribers are eligible to win. Anyone else is more than welcome to submit a colorized version of the pic though. Send entries to [email protected].

The top prize will be modest. A single Mega Bloks Halo blind packed minifig. Bear in mind anyone outside of the US will have to pay shipping. (only one winner per graphic and please only one entry per person.

So here’s the graphic. It’s a concept of Master Chief from the Art of Building Worlds book:

Use whatever tools you have at your disposal. Photoshop, cool. Paint, cool. Markers, cooler. Crayons? Even better! This is just a fun little (hopefully) weekly contest. If I don’t get many entries, then I’ll just post up graphics from time to time that you can color on your own (and of course feel free to send them to me). All who send a colorized version will be posted on the blog (so long as it’s not vulgar-remember folks, this is a PG-13 or less site). Keep it family friendly.

So have at it folks. Let’s see what you can come up with. Doesn’t have to be realistic. Use your imagination.

[UPDATE]

Here’s one that I just did in about 5 minutes. Colorized in Photoshop.

Happy Halodays contest results!

Well, we had some really great entries for the contest. I’ll admit, I had a hard time choosing which ones to win.

I’ve released the entries to the contest in the original article here. (one exception was for a subscriber who posted it to the wrong article…I made an exception there and reposted it for him in the correct article.) His post is released in the article he submitted it under-here.

Since I had such a hard time deciding on the winners, EVERYONE who submitted an entry is going to get something! SO all of you who sent me an entry, please shoot me your address via a reply (don’t worry, I’ll delete and not post it). This is the only way I can ensure that the right people are getting the prizes)

Now without further ado, here are the winners of the contest!
Grand Prize: Halo Mega Blok 10th Anniversary Warthog
“Deck the Halos” by Rob_bokone
Second Prize: Mega Bloks Halo Covert Ops: Battle Unit
“O Come All Reclaimers” by silentcarto75
Third Prizes: Halo Mega Bloks Armory pack
“12 Days of Battle” by haza121
“Teabag the Elites” by Evillittlejawa
“Didact got run over by a Warthog” by General Diaz

Honorable mentions to everyone else who entered!
“Halo please come home” by MAS AttacK
“Flood Christmas” by Graccus
“5 Days of Spartan Ops” by CurrerBell1847
“Let it Grow” by starshipriot

Congrats to ALL of the entries! Thanks for participating in a successful contest. Again, you are ALL winners!

For those third place winners, please list in order of preference 1 to 3 which one you’d like to have. I’ll try to get you the one you want, depending on how the other two placed their preferences.
