Some campaign question about Halo 4. (SPOILERS)

My friend VaderRx from HaloCollectors posed these questions about the Halo 4 campaign. I was happy to answer them.

Scroll down past the article if you don’t want to read any spoilers.

Why exactly did the Covies work with the Promethians?
The Didact saw the alliance and knew it would work to his favor. Otherwise the Didact would have had them destroyed.

Who exactly is the Librarian?
She is the Forerunner who cataloged all of the known sentient species as well as transferring “geas” into their races to be used at a later time. Think of the geas as imprinted knowledge passed down.

What the frak did she to do MC?
She evolved him. What specifically she did…more to come.

What was with Cortana splitting into multiples?
By fragmenting herslef, she was able to attack the Didact’s defenses on multiple fronts, thereby enabling her to stop the ship.

Why didn’t MC whip that helmet off and lay a kiss on her when she got real LOL?
Yeah, I’m kinda wondering that too…

Is she dead?
Cortana? Gawd I hope not, but that is the implication. I suspect she won’t be gone for good though. Maybe at the beginning of Halo 5, but not forever. I LOVE that character. She is just as much a part of Halo as Master Chief.

Is the Didact dead?
Again, presumably so. Seems like such a waste though. So much potential for more Forerunner/Human conflict. However, this may open the door for the Precursors now. (The race before the Forerunners)

I just can’t believe the Didact would have been taken out so easily when humanity 100K years ago couldn’t do it and they had FAR advanced tech. Man, that would suck to wake up after millennia only to be destroyed in a couple of days…I’d want some revenge…Just sayin. LOL

More is revealed in the books and the last in the Forerunner Saga will tell us more too.

  1. i agree iv read most of the books like: cole protical, flood, fall of reach, first strike, ghosts of onyx, and one of my personal faverites cryptum. but if you read cryptum you learn about the dictate and the libraryan and that 12 halos where commishind but only 6-8 remained so hopfully more games to come i think halo 4 has extreamly great graphics and gameplay cant wait to be on the connect so you can be actice and feel more in the game.

  2. i have a question if you wouldnt mind awensering it. in ghosts of onyx Dr. Halsey and the other spartans of blue team are in onyx even though onyx is no more and the Dictate built the sheild worlds so will they ever get out since the only person who possibly could get them out was the Dictate. if of course he knew they where there i miss Kelly sadly Fred had to die same with Will.

    • Well, as seen in the game Halsey somehow does indeed find her way out. With whom else? Hmmm, we will have to see.

  3. On the subject of why the Covenant worked with the Prometheans. They were searching for the Didact, as they believed him to be a god. So as soon as the Didact emerged from the cryptum, they willingly worked with him. Note that the Didact turned the Prometheans over to his side after he emerged, so they were no longer hostile to the Covenant (they were previously following the commands of the Librarian, which was to prevent anything from opening the cryptum). But yes, the Didact did see use in them.

Cortana is almost surely dead, though she mentioned that John may be partnered with another ‘Cortana’ AI if Halsey would allow it. She was aboard the Didact’s ship, which was destroyed. She said she only kept a little piece of herself back to keep John safe. That piece then died, as shown when Cortana and the hard-light shield faded. So Cortana is certainly dead. It was incredibly sad, but it’s for the good of the narrative, and so John can finally realised that he is not a machine, but a person.

Same with the Didact. He was composed by the composer, which wouldn’t have technically ‘killed’ him. However, the composer was destroyed by the nuke, and so anything that remained of him would have been destroyed, as would have the composed Humans from Earth and the ONI station.

Note that Chief was the first of the fruits of the Librarian’s plans. An augmented human, with a combat skin (MJOLNIR), and an ancilla (Cortana). Therefore he was ready to fight the Didact and win. Plus the ‘Genesong’ apparently gave him “many gifts” besides the immunity to the Composer. Though I do not know what they are.

As for the scene between John and Cortana. John was raised to be a emotionless machine whose only goal was to follow orders with ruthless efficiency. I’m sure he wanted to say a lot of things to Cortana, but he didn’t know how. He could only watch as his world fell apart. It’s heartbreaking.

Sorry, I don’t mean to sound like a smart-ass. I just wanted to clarify those points and give my take on them.

  4. I don’t think Cortana can be dead by the rules of fiction. I think Chief will get another “Cortana” AI, and they will make up some bull (which I don’t mind) that somehow all of the “real” Cortana’s memory was continuously transferred into another unit so that there will be a flawless replacement when she goes rampant. Main point: They can’t kill Cortana

  5. Why exactly did the Covies work with the Promethians?

The covenant has been fragmented and with this fragmentation many have created their own new government system. In the case of the covenant on requiem, they are on a religious campaign for forerunner artifacts and believe the forerunners are gods.
That being said, after the Didact was released he regained control of his Promethians. He realized the covenant worshiped him and in turn lead them on an assault of earth.

    Who exactly is the Librarian?

The librarian is the forerunner that was put in charge of cataloging all sentient beings in the galaxy to preserve the mantle in the wake of the firing of the halo ring array. She is the Didact’s wife and part of the console in charge of fighting off the infestation of the flood. She has compassion for the human race and has elected them to be the new handlers of the mantle (reclaimers). She devises a complex plan that would be carried out over the millennia for humans to rise and control the mantle.

What the frak did she to do MC?

She did indeed evolved him so the composer wouldn’t affect him, so he could carry out the librarians geas.

This is where I ask my own question. Why didn’t she make all of mankind immune to the composer?

I believe she did it in case one day if the flood was too powerful to defeat even with the halo array that I may be the final resort to defeat the flood.

What was with Cortana splitting into multiples?

Cortana did this to defeat the Didact’s security on his ship so the chief could get close enough to defeat the Didact.

This spawns another question about if she is dead or not? I will get to this later though.

Why didn’t MC whip that helmet off and lay a kiss on her when she got real LOL?

This one is simple in my opinion, they are in space… If she used everything she had left to create the hard light shield that saved him I doubt she had enough to create a artificial atmosphere.

    Is she dead?

I doubt she is dead she fragmented herself and I would say its safe to assume that she managed to save herself on part of the Didact’s ship where she remains intact.

    Is the Didact dead?

He is supposed to be dead but who knows, I for one think he is. If you read the descriptions for the forge map impact it is set on a research facility studying an artifact that predates the forerunners… This could mean halo 5 will have precursors as the protagonist or the flood may return.

Anyhow those are my thoughts on these questions, hope you enjoy halo 4 and the universe as much as I do.
