Toy Review: McFarlane Gamestop exclusive Spartan Warrior

I had the fortune of getting this figure from eBay for a reasonable price. It sucks that Gamestop “charges” so many PowerUps points for their promotions. I had almost nearly enough to get one on my own (as I rarely turn in my PowerUp points). However, this one eluded me by about 2K points. No way I was going to be able to get that quickly, so I turned to eBay.

GameStop PowerUP Halo 4 Spartan Warrior

After bidding on several (I always try to get a deal and not bid too high), I managed to get this fig for $25 shipped. Considering McFarlane figs normally cost between $12-15, the fact that this is an exclusive and NOT available at the store level, I think I got a pretty good deal (even though there is a noticeable bend near the top of the cardback).

Normally I take figures out of the packaging. However, until/unless I can get a second one of these, this pup is staying put on the card. It’s a fantastic sculpt. The color is rich.

If you’ve got the PowerUp points, I highly recommend getting this fig.

  1. OK, that’s it. I’m not collecting these figures any more. There’s a ridiculous amount of exclusive figures, that often require you to either do things like this, or buy entire box sets to get one figure, or are just not available in my country. Maybe if I lived in the US, I could do this, but they’re already more than double the price here. I saw the Promethean Knight in Forbidden Planet today for £35. Not happening.

Uh, sorry for the rant. This figure’s paint scheme looks really cool. Much better than the standard red one from series 1. If I were you I’d keep it in it’s packaging. Judging by the prices on similar Halo 3 exclusives, it may be worth a lot in the future.

    • Believe me, I completely understand your frustration. Exclusives can be a real pain in the arse to we fans. It’s a business model though that keeps retail partners happy. So unfortunately we consumers have to put up with it. I expect it to go up in value, but I do not collect for those reasons. I collect to collect. I love having the stuff and rarely resell something I bought. I think in all of my modern years of collecting, I’ve resold less than 5 things. The Knight is $30US here. I don’t know how much in shipping it would be to the UK,.. I might be able to help you out in getting one of these for less that the UK price. If you’re interested, e-mail me at [email protected]. We’ll work out the details through e-mail.

  2. I appreciate the offer, but I’ll pass. I might buy certain figures of cool characters, like if a hunter is ever released (still got my awesome Halo 3 one), but beyond that I don’t think I’ll buy many of these. Could you maybe do an article showing off your Halo merchandise? I like to see people’s collections.

    • This is a request I get often – to show my collection. It’s something I want to get to…someday. I just don’t have the room to display it properly at the moment and it’s going to take a monumental effort to make that room available. Trust that when I do get it done, it will be shown in an article. Hopefully you good folks will like the set-up.
