Some campaign question about Halo 4. (SPOILERS)

My friend VaderRx from HaloCollectors posed these questions about the Halo 4 campaign. I was happy to answer them.

Scroll down past the article if you don’t want to read any spoilers.

Why exactly did the Covies work with the Promethians?
The Didact saw the alliance and knew it would work to his favor. Otherwise the Didact would have had them destroyed.

Who exactly is the Librarian?
She is the Forerunner who cataloged all of the known sentient species as well as transferring “geas” into their races to be used at a later time. Think of the geas as imprinted knowledge passed down.

What the frak did she to do MC?
She evolved him. What specifically she did…more to come.

What was with Cortana splitting into multiples?
By fragmenting herslef, she was able to attack the Didact’s defenses on multiple fronts, thereby enabling her to stop the ship.

Why didn’t MC whip that helmet off and lay a kiss on her when she got real LOL?
Yeah, I’m kinda wondering that too…

Is she dead?
Cortana? Gawd I hope not, but that is the implication. I suspect she won’t be gone for good though. Maybe at the beginning of Halo 5, but not forever. I LOVE that character. She is just as much a part of Halo as Master Chief.

Is the Didact dead?
Again, presumably so. Seems like such a waste though. So much potential for more Forerunner/Human conflict. However, this may open the door for the Precursors now. (The race before the Forerunners)

I just can’t believe the Didact would have been taken out so easily when humanity 100K years ago couldn’t do it and they had FAR advanced tech. Man, that would suck to wake up after millennia only to be destroyed in a couple of days…I’d want some revenge…Just sayin. LOL

More is revealed in the books and the last in the Forerunner Saga will tell us more too.

Forward Unto Dawn (unofficial) Graphic Novel: Episode 5

Friday a week ago I brought to you my 14-part review of the fourth episode of “Forward Unto Dawn.”

Now I present the last of the episode graphic novels, episode 5. There will be a six novel. That will be in December though. It will have the extras as seen on the DVD/BR as well as some other goodies from the series.

Feel free to download these as they are FREE. If you repost this anywhere, PLEASE give me credit as: Designed by Sal Salerno of HaloFanForLife.com
And please link back to my original post here.

This has been a fun endeavor for me. I’ve enjoyed making the graphic novels and I hope you’ve found some entertainment from them as well. Through this process, I’ve learned a bit about making graphic novels, picked up a couple of new tricks in Photoshop, and had some fantastic feedback from you good folks as well as cast and crew of the actual production of Forward Unto Dawn. My SINCEREST Thank You to all!

Now to the graphic novel. Click on the first page. When the new window loads up, click the image to get to the next page, etc…

Thoughts on Halo 4 after a few days.

Okay, I’m going to give you my opinion of various parts of the game that I’ve experienced so far. If you have some thoughts, please feel free to reply to the article.

Campaign: As stated before, I made the mistake of playing this on Normal. It was too easy for me. I’m not in a rush though to get the Legendary achievement. I figure I’ll can get that anytime.
Graphics are OUTSTANDING. Best looking Halo game to date for sure. Gameplay is familiar with some additions. Nothing too hard to figure out.
The story is really moving. You definitely get more out of this one than any, on fact maybe all the other previous Halo games combined. The relationship between Master Chief and Cortana is compelling. I won’t spoil anything else here though. You’ll have to play it to know what the story tells.
I love just roaming about and seeing what all was done on the maps. Finding the terminals is of course fun and gives you the added benefit of clips to watch on Waypoint once you’ve unlocked them.
Lighting and sound are fantastic. Lighting is realistic. One small gripe on sound comes from the music. The music is great, but sometimes overpowers the rest of the game sound. I wish we had control of that. While I love the music of Halo 4, I’d like to be able to turn it down or off if I want.

Spartan Ops: Well, I did a write up on this already. However, it bears repeating that this game mode is AWESOME! My description for this is that Spartan Ops is a story driven, mission specific firefight. It has elements of campaign with the story vids, objective based missions, and of course a high dose of firefight with plenty of Covies and Prometheans to blast away. I’d say initially, this is my favorite mode. That may change over time. However, I HIGHLY suggest everyone play it. I definitely want MORE than the initial 10 weeks 343 has planned for!

War games: Okay, there are a few issues here, but none too bad. As with Reach, I’m not a fan of BTB here. WAY too many power weapons on the map. I die MUCH faster than I ever did in Halo 3 and Reach. I’m finding that just like Reach, I like the smaller team playlists.
I’ve only played a few Dominion games. I think once my group of friends gets together and works together we can be an unstoppable force in Dominion. Right now though, there’s too much bickering and complaining for that to happen. Bleh…
CTF and KOTH are fun. However, there is ONE map that has quickly become my least favorite. That is Abandon. If you spawn on the low side of the map you are REALLY at a loss from the get-go. The low side is too open and prone to being spawn killed.

With SWAT coming, and more playlists planned, don’t give up hope. 343 has stated they will be keeping a keen eye on War Games and will make changes as necessary to keep thing fresh and inventive.

Forge: I’ve visited most of the maps in Forge now. I can’t wait to break them. I LOVE getting outside of the map. In the meantime, I can say that I really like the Magnet feature. VERY helpful. As is duplicate.
The map that has stood out for me is Impact. I REALLY like this map. I’ve already begun an ambitious project using that map. (will be revealed soon)

Theater: I’ve actually NOT gone into theater yet. I am dismayed that there is no theater for Campaign or Spartan Ops. I’d LOVE to be able to take pics and clips from both of those modes. So much to see and capture in those modes. However, 343 has said it’s planned for later on down the line. I hope by the time the new year comes around.

Commendations are good and of course you get credits for completing the in each tier. I likely won’t be as obsessive about them in Halo 4 as I was in Reach though. Then again, I want every piece of armor…So I may have to be.

I’m definitely glad challenges are back. That was a GREAT addition to Reach and I’m glad it carried over into Halo 4. That alone helped keep me coming back long after I had ranked to max in Reach.

Armor customization: Well, having been an Inheritor in Reach for SO long, I was used to having everything available whenever I wanted it. It’s a little humbling that I don’t have everything now. I SO want the War Master helmet!!! Having to purchase many things about upgrades is kind of a “rolls eyes” moment. Seems like it’s easy enough to unlock those things. Just need to play enough and rank up enough to eventually get everything.

Well that about it for now. I’ve likely forgotten stuff. It’s almost 4am though as of this writing and I’m tired….

Doritos XP codes tomorrow. Forward Unto Dawn graphic novel tomorrow. And we’ll see what else…

Halo Mega Bloks series 6 minifigures!

As some of you know I LOVE collecting Halo toys. Mega Bloks is one of the top two licensees I collect (the other being McFarlane).

Mega Bloks has some incredible Halo toys out there. Every few months they come out with a new series of collectible minifigures. These are blind packaging, though you do see at least what consists of the wave on the outside of the packet.

These retail for around $3-3.50 US depending on where you get them from.

Series 6 has now been revealed, take a look:

For this series we get:

Grunt: Okay, this is essentially the same as the one we got in series 5. I’m not complaining though. I LOVE building up small armies of the little guys.
Purple EOD Spartan: I like the armor, and the color is fantastic. I’m not normally a purple person, but for these minifigs it’s a good color.
Yellow Mark V [b] Spartan: This mold of the minifig has only been available in the +$100 Sabre Countdown set. So to be able to get it here is great! Especially if you want to make a custom default Noble 6 by painting him.
Tan Marine w/masked face: Again, another good army builder. With the recent tan armory sets released, this minifig will help to augment those troops.
Jackal: WHOLLY MOLY! I’m SO glad and excited this minifig is being made available. I’ve wanted to build up a small army of these for awhile. I may ask for your help in finding this one folks. I’m trying to build up an army of 30. I already have 10 from previous sets…
Cyan Elite (yes, cyan, not blue): Again, a good color and sought after by Halo Mega Bloks collectors. Nice to have elites to build up too.
Stealth EVA: OMG, this is one I’m very much looking forward to having. I LOVE this shark-skin color. This color has only been previously available in Toys R Us exclusive sets. So, to be able to add to that squad with a single pack figure is a great addition!
Crimson “Not-Jorge” Spartan: Previously available as “Not-Jorge” in the Spade vs Skirmisher set and the Flood Siege set as the stealth color, the Crimson version is a VERY welcome redux. I’m a fan of the color anyway, so this is a no-brainer pick up for me.

Also, be on the lookout for certain other extremely rare minifigs not shown on the packaging. For instance in the previous series we had a translucent Red, translucent blue, and translucent “smoke” spartans in the series, though not pictured on the packaging.

Rumor has it there will be a translucent Purple Elite… I LOVE translucent toys. Just seeing how the are made and come together is something I’ve always found VERY cool.

Are you a Halo Mega Bloks fan?

My Forward Unto Dawn episode 4 graphic novel on HaloWaypoint.com!

Fan-made Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Graphic Novel: Part 4

Woot, featured right on the homepage! Thanks VERY much to BS Angel for posting this as well as the first 3. Would you believe I’m not done with episode 5 yet? See there was a little something that happened earlier in the week that kind of took my time away from finishing the graphic novel. I’ll give you ONE guess what that is…

So, to make sure I finish this, I’ll be working on episode 5’s graphic novel today and have that available on the blog.

Thanks to all that have said good things about the graphic novels. I’ve enjoyed doing them and will complete the series today. Then it’s on to Spartan Ops the graphic novel. I just wish we had theater for Spartan Ops as I’d LOVE to be able to include gameplay pics in the graphic novels.
