The Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are on a relatively level playing field as the new generation revs up, but Microsoft and Sony will find ways to help consumers differentiate between the two in the coming months and years. Sony has already played its trump card by offering free games through PlayStation Plus, but Microsoft might be closing in on its own digital initiative to give Xbox One owners better deals.
Mike Ybarra, studio manager at Xbox, tweeted on Monday that Xbox owners have been asking for better deals on the Xbox digital marketplace, so his team is going to begin testing a few options. Starting tomorrow and running until the 24th, Ryse: Son of Rome, a launch game for the Xbox One, will be discounted 33% to $39.99 on Xbox Live.
Console owners have been demanding competitive digital download prices for years, but other than occasional discounts and holiday events, more often than not a used copy of a game costs significantly less than its digital counterpart, even months or years after release. As for Ryse, preowned copies at GameStop are still listed at $54.99, $15 over the promotional price being offered on Xbox Live this week.
We don’t know what this means for the future of Xbox One digital pricing, but if the response is positive, expect more promotions like this in the future.
I had intended to post this yesterday, but with all the excitement of New York Toy Fair and all the Halo Mega Bloks goodness, well, I was plenty more than busy…
Mega Bloks Metallic Series ODST (Blue): Set #97418
Technical Specifications: Build Time: N/A Set Piece Count: 11 Minifigs: ODST (Metallic Blue Highlights with Black Under Armor) Weapons: Assault Rifle Accessories: 2X4 Blok with Metallic Blue “Halo” printed on on of the long sides. Price: $4.99 Special Features: Two-part Drop Pod mold (Not a buildable drop pod) And on with the pics! (Click pics to make BIGGER)
The packaging is the drop pod itself, which is a two-part mold. There is a thin sheath of clear plastic that surrounds the pod to keep it intact while hanging on pegs, while waiting to be bought. I just like how they look like hand grenades! The dark “shark skin” blueish grey is a good color for this pod.
This pic shows the contents of the pod, as well as the pod separated into it’s respective two pieces. The minifigure does not come assemebled. It takes no time at all to put it together though. Same as the others, with the exception of an Assault Rifle for the mini figure.
The insert sheet shows all four of the sets.
Finally here is the minifig close-up.
It has a great metallic sheen to it. I really like the teeth markings above and below the visor. The blok the fig stands on comes with it and is imprinted with the word “Halo” on it, in Metallic blue ink to match the mini fig’s detail color. Blue on this figure is a nice dark blue. Not too dark though. These ODST drop pod figs are really well done.

Summary: No time needed to build this as it’s just the figure, weapon and its’ stand.
Overall Rating:I give this set 10 out for 10 medals.
For the money, this is a good deal. Consider that the single blind pack minifigs are $3-4, for the same or maybe a dollar more, you get the two-part drop pod. If you’re a fan of ODSTs then these are the sets for you!

This is an excellent army building set for flood figures! Pics are from figures.com. I cropped and color corrected them for clarity.

Same pic, fixed perspective. At first I thought this was another Floodgate set. It looks similar. It definitely fits right in with that set.
As you can see this set comes with MANY flood figures. Two carrier forms, one tan, one brown. Looks like 9-10 infection forms, split between tan and brown. There’s the Elite flood on the Ghost, and whatever that is clinging to it. By the box shot, it may include another Elite flood. The gem is that Tank Pureform Flood though. Also it has two Marines in the new super articulated form.
Just look at the beauty that is that Tank Pureform!
Really…what IS that clinging flood thingy on the ghost? LOL.
The set has 286 pieces and most seems to be the figures. Beyond these there are some great scene pieces like two explosive crates, plenty of sandbags, and a machine gun turret. If you go by piece count alone the set should be around $30. Considering the amount of figures, the ghost and the playlet, I can see this easily being $40+ (though of course I’d rather have it be $30).
Again, such a GREAT set to army build your flood figures! So what are your opinions folks? Like it? Getting it?
I knew about this set several weeks ago but wasn’t allowed to release the information. Now that it’s been photographed at Toy Fair, now I can talk about it. Pics are from figures.com. I cropped and color corrected them for clarity.
This set rounds out the micro fleet sets that we know of so far this year. We already had Green, Silver and Red, now we get the Blue helmet. I’m totally loving the mini Falcon. Great design for a mini build!
The set displayed, it shows the spartan with a sniper rifle. I believe the little turret is the kind found on Snowbound from Halo 3.
What is important to note of this mini fig is that it’s the NEW design, not the classic version. This will throw off your figures matching in all 4 sets. That’s not a detractor for me though. Note the two-piece mold for the chest armor.

Let’s take a closer look at the Remote Controlled Mantis. Pics are from figures.com. I cropped and color corrected fro clarity.

Same shot with the perspective fixed. The box says 85 pieces. If you can’t by the pics, many of the pieces are special molded parts. So this isn’t a true fully blok piece set. Does that matter though? Not to me! With lights and sounds, new articulated figure, launching rockets, etc., this sets seems ready to be a success!
As you can tell, it towers over the minifies. So what can we expect to pay for this? That’s a tough call as the piece count isn’t reflective of the price with this set. Considering the electronics involved, I’d make a guess at $50. Hopefully we’ll get an answer from Mega Brands soon.
One last cool thing is that the controller for this looks much like an XBOX controller.
This is definitely an unexpected set. After asking for years for an Emile figure and begin told it wouldn’t be made, here it is! I’m VERY happy about this. With Carter and Jun coming with the Elephant Troop carrier, might we also see new versions of Jorge and Kat down the line? And also a new Noble Six?? Pics are from figures.com. A very cool looking small set. Now I am curious about that piece count though. It just doesn’t seem likely to be 90 pieces. Maybe half of that. With this in mind, I hope the set is under $10, otherwise, Mega is going to wrong direction with affordability of their product and getting into LEGO territory with priceyness of sets. Note the box clearly says “Emile” on it. No more “Not” figures. Finally named figures as they should be.
I do love the redesign of the Mongoose. This is by far the best, IMO of the Mega Bloks Mongeese to date. I just can’t get over that Emile figure, WOW!

Now let’s talk about what we’re seeing here. First off we’re finally getting Carter and Jun from Halo Reach! I’m loving that a jetpack is include as well. Now is that UNSC Sergeant brown skinned? If so, then we’ve also got Master Sgt. Johnson! Add two more marines and a medic and this set is chock full of figures! As well there’s a mini Cortana fig. It looks like this Cortana might have a light up base as well.
This is a big set coming in at 1200 pieces. I’m hoping that this set is no more than $100, but I have a feeling it will be more around $125+.
The design/construction of this set looks to be better than the previous Elephant we got. I’m stoked for this set!

Mega is coming out with some big sets this year. This one, the RC Mantis, the Broadsword and then the massive Scarab. It’s going to be crazy expensive this year to get them all.
Wow, the New Mombasa Police Department (NMPD) is being well represented this year. It’s the first time we’ve had any sets for the NMPS and we get THREE of them! Pics are from figures.com. I’ve cropped and color corrected them for clarity.
First up the NMPD Cyclops: This is a pretty nifty little set. I like the colors of it. Cool that it uses the crowd control shield that the Mega Bloks COD line uses. And YES, we get an NMPD Police trooper.
A close up of the shot reveals better detail on the mini figure. The NMPD seal on the head and chest as well as “POLICE” on the chest really makes this figure stand out.
Here it is as it is being displayed among the other sets at NYTF 2014.
This set comes in at 55 pieces. The other Cyclops sets that have come before were at a price range of about $15-17 depending on where you got it from. So I expect this one to be about the same as well.
Next the NMPD Police Car:
A very cool looking little car. Many of the cars in Halo 3 ODST took this shape, but none stood out as much as the NMPD Police car. This set chimes in at 235 pieces. With the NMPD Officer and Brute Chieftan added to the set, I can see this being marked at between $23-26. I love how Mega went with the VISR mode on the Chieftan. That’s the red outline markings in case you didn’t know.

And yes, it opens up to insert the officer to drive in.
Now I wonder since it’s displayed with the Helmet figure, yet shows the hat wearing figure on the box, will we get two heads for the mini fig so we can choose how to play/display it?
The third of the NMPD sets, the NMPD Hornet:

Same shot but with fixed perspective. We can see that it has 400+ pieces to it. It comes with a NMPD trooper and pilot. Man, I’m really loving this NMPD subline! This uses the new style Hornet build also seen in the Hornet Vs Vampire set (of which I’ll have a toy review on the blog in a couple of days!).
