It was an exciting week for Halo. Beyond all of the other stuff like the Sanctuary reveal, the Halo Channel reveal, people getting to play Halo 2 Anniversary campaign for the first time and so on, there was the matter of a Halo 2 Anniversary tournament. I covered the first two days of it a little. I would have covered the next two, however, the 2nd Annual HFFL LAN was going on and my attention was on that and being a good host to the folks who came to it.
So here I am catching up on the tournament. If you haven’t had the chance to watch the finals between VwS and TCM, then take a look at Halo’s twitch stream HERE.
In the meantime, here is my thoughts one what I saw while watching the finals event.
Game Two: (This is where the stream was picked up on.) It looked like it was going to be a blowout as VwS took a commanding lead of 24-6. Usually teams are well out of it at that point. However, TCM fought hard and fought back like rarely seen before. That not only whittled away at the lead VwS had but managed to tie them up until the last few seconds. That match was extremely tense during the final minute. You could hear that coming through Goldenboy’s commentary. Which, BTW, I have to say was excellent. With mere seconds left in the game, one snipe shot landed giving VwS the win by just ON E point. This was an amazing example of what competitive Halo is all about.
Game 3: was Team Snipers on Sanctuary. Sniper start, BR secondary. TCM was dominate at one point being 38/21. Chalkie was certainly the MVP for TCM in this match.
Game 4: Team Snipers on Ascension. TCM was dominant is this game. Winning by a double digit lead.
TCM wins the tournament 3 games to 1. So…does this mark the comeback for Halo 2? How about Halo e-sports in general? I certainly hope so.
Not only does TCM win $5k, but they also got a copy of the Master Chief Collection, UNSC jackets (which are freakin’ cool) and some other Halo swag.
Just as last year’s Halo 4 Global Championship, the Gamescom Halo 2 tourney was exciting to watch. It was also great to see Goldenboy and Bravo reunite to do the play-by-play.
