No Voting, no Veto! (You’ll take it and you’ll like it!)

No Voting, no Veto. That’s the word from Josh Holmes of 343, regarding what maps we get to play on at the beginning of a match.

The below was posted on twitter last week.

I have to be honest here, I’m kind of glad it’s like this. Here’s why:
• Forces people to learn more maps, rather than a few they like
• Keeps people from switching votes. (I mean, who didn’t hate that, really??)
• You can’t be ticked off at your teammate(s) for not voting
• They can’t be ticked at you either
• No one certain or relative few maps keep getting picked

This really is about as fair as it can be. If you want to play on a specific map, then go into customs. I’m hoping this will actually boost custom game playing because people want to play on certain maps more. We need the custom game community to see a revival of sorts in Halo.

So what are your thoughts? Like this news? Don’t like it? Agree or disagree with some or all of my thoughts? (It’s okay if you disagree, just don’t be rude about it, thanks.)

  1. As bad as I am at multiplayer, I like this. There will always be maps that people do better on than others for whatever reason (play style, aesthetics, etc) but for a new game with new maps it is a great way to expose people to all of the maps available. Playing on a few maps just burns you out on them (see Haven from Halo 4).

    • Yep, agree completely. Also, with all of the maps being free going forward, there really isn’t an excuse to at least try them out. I really do like this direction that 343 is taking with matchmaking maps. Now, hopefully there is relative equal weighting. What I see might happen is that certain people (pros and wannabe pros) will complain about certain maps and those will be taken out of rotation or their weighting will be greatly reduced. This is why there really needs to be a playlist specific to pro/competitive gaming, so that their choices don’t affect the rest of us who want to have fun, regardless of map choice. Right?

  2. I like it. It is nice to have a variety of maps to play on instead of just the few go to maps that are always chosen.
