The 12 Days of Halo Toy Reviews: Day 5; Mega Bloks ODST Gold and Plumb Drop Pods

Yep, this is a twofer review! 2 for the view of 1 article!

Mega Bloks has changed it’s name to Mega Construx. For the sets I’m reviewing that still have the Mega Bloks logo, that will be present in them. The sets that are now Mega Construx will have that logo instead. With a possible one or two exceptions, starting in 2017, all Mega reviews will be Mega Construx instead of Mega Bloks. Same company, different name.

And on with the pics! (Click pics to make BIGGER)

There really isn’t much in the way of packaging. A simple “hang-tag” taht is inserted between the halves of the pod to allow it to hang from pegs and a little plastic band around the mid-section of the pod. I only have the gold one shown here for packaging.mb-odst-drop-pod-gold

As for contents withint the respective pods, you get the figure, their weapons and a 2X4 blok with “Halo” printed on it, in the respective color fo the ODST. Also an instruction sheet. Honestly though, that sheet really isn’t needed as the figure comes pre-assembled.mb-odst-drop-pod-contentsmb-drop-pod-plumb-contents

As you can see below, the Gold ODST has matching standard shoulder pads, while the Plumb one has different shoulder pads than the standard ones. Shown with the Gold is it’s DMR.mb-odst-drop-pod-orthomb-drop-pod-plumb-ortho

Since the sniper was too long to have the Plumb ODST hold it at it’s side for the above pic, I took a shot of it alone. This is a 2-piece sniper as all the other ones have been in the past. The pivoting stand is the second piece, apart from the sniper itself.mb-drop-pod-plumb-sniper

And finally, the figs, their pods and the 2X4 bloks.

The Gold ODST has a band around it’s one leg, while the plumb one did not.mb-odst-drop-pod-finmb-drop-pod-plumb-fin

Not really much to reviewing these pods really, that’s in part why I put the two of them together here. I really like theb gold one as it’s a good color. THe plumb one you may see online referred to as Crimson instead. I assure you, it’s not the crimson red you may be used to. It’s definitely more plumb in color. Also, my plumb pod had a sheen to it. It’s not a bac color, just an odd one.

Summary: These sets are excellent if you want to build up troops of ODSTs quickly and for cheap!

Overall Rating: I give this set 9.5 out for 10 medals.

Why did I give it a 9.5 out of 10?
• The only issue I have is the use of the shark tooth on the helmet. In so far as we know, Dutch from the ODST team in Halo3 ODST was the only one to have that on his helmet. At the very least, the overwhelming majority of ODSTs do NOT have that on their helmets. So for better accuracy, I wish Mega would leave them off in the future. Just a half point off (for me being nitpicky)

Let me break down my opinion of the value of this set. (In US dollars)
At only 50 cents to $1 more than the single packed blind bag figures, this is a great value. I’ve seen other collectors wonder what they can use their drop pods for. Well…it IS Christmas time. Sooo, use them for tree ornaments!! That pod is certainly worth that!

Do I recommend it?  YEP! Hard to go wrong with more ODSTs! And the fact that you can use those Drop Pods as Ornaments for your Halodays er Holidays…well…
