Enter the Arena: Competitive Skill Ranking

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

By Josh Holmes

As we prepare for the game’s release in just over a week, I’d like to focus this blog on the Arena portion of the multiplayer experience for Halo 5: Guardians. Arena is our pure competitive experience in Halo 5, celebrating the legacy of Halo multiplayer. Arena allows players to go head-to-head in a game of skill where everyone starts on a level playing field. Each player begins with the same weapons and abilities and vies for possession of power weapons and power-ups by maintaining map control throughout the match. Last December, we held a beta for Arena almost a year from launch to get the game into the hands of Halo fans everywhere. Since then we’ve worked tirelessly to address player feedback and refine the game with the goal of delivering the ultimate competitive multiplayer shooter when we launch on October 27.

Joining me today are Multiplayer Design Director Kevin Franklin, along with Multiplayer Designers Max Grossman and Quinn DelHoyo to share more detail about the Arena multiplayer experience in Halo 5: Guardians. Continue reading

343 is making an API available for Public Stats!

halo-5-api-c07a3d71baf54d80a0cf15e2b579491b

We haven’t seen this since Halo Reach!

I for one am VERY glad this is happening.

Waypoint will have it’s own dedicated stats system on the site.

Regardless, people like Firestorm, who created the hugely popular HaloCharts are already gauging interest to start up a site.

If he does in particular, his site will most likely be my go-to Halo 5 stat site. The previously mentioned HaloCharts was an astounding site and built a large following of players not only checking their stats, but also finding other like minded gamers to play Halo with.

The following stats will be available:

• Service Record (Life-to-date stats for each player)
• Match History (Access to each match played)
• Carnage Report (Complete statistical breakdown for each player in a match)

At the moment the API is in private beta but should go public right about when Halo 5 Guardians launches.
