Atriox Halo Wars Pixel Art Billboard!

I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could make a billboard for Halo Wars 2 using Atriox’s face. Given that we are limited in pieces in Halo 5’s Forge, I knew ahead of time that this was going to look pixelated at the end. So I used my math skills to determine how big the pieces needed to be to relatively fill a Billboard piece in Forge, then went to work in Photoshop creating the necessary pixels turn greenscreen pieces.

Blew it up so that it was mostly his face and some of his shoulder armor.

I posterized this so as to give me just 8 colors.

From there, I broke it down to large squares that when translated to Forge pieces would be equivalent to 2X2 greenscreen pieces. Pixelated Atriox Continue reading →

BLITZ BETA FOLLOW-UP

In the wake of the Blitz Beta many of you have had a variety of questions about Halo Wars 2 and what to expect when the game launches. I rounded up a number of queries from r/HaloWars and sent them over to the Halo Wars 2 team (both Creative Assembly and 343) to help us get some answers:

Are you happy with team colours at present? Some of us found it challenging to remember which units are friend or foe in the betas.
Great feedback! The clarity and readability of the battle is really important to us so we’ll be monitoring and reviewing players’ experiences from release and look for ways to improve the player’s understanding of the team colors in future

HFFL: For me it was easy to tell the difference between one side or the other. Where the colors blurred were within each side. Orange looked too close to red on one end and then yellow on the other. The green I sometimes mixed up with the lighter blue. This caused me to try and move troops that weren’t mine. I’d get frustrated thinking the Beta wasn’t working right. Then I’d realize my error. Problem is, by the time that was realized, it often meant I was on the losing side of a match. So yes, I hope the colors are better defined. One issue though is that many of the toys are already based off of those colors. So we’ll have to wait and see how this is addressed. Continue reading →

Halo Wars 2 Trailers!

Just a couple of days ago, 343 released these final trailers for Halo Wars 2. The first two are hilarious! The last being the actual one for the game.

Official Halo Wars 2 Posters!

Microsoft commisioned three artists to make Halo Wars 2 posters. 2 each to each artist, one of a UNSC leader and the other a Banished leader.

These first two were created by Kevin Tong.HW2 Poster CutterHW2 Poster Atriox

Which one do you like the best?

I think the middles pairing of Anders and the Shipmaster are fantastic! Use of a limited color palette with the striking reds and oranges really brings out the ‘WARS’ aspect of the posted.

No details yet on how these can be obtained. However, I’m told that they will be available at retail in some form. If that’s as a bonus at a Microsoft store or as individuals you can buy, I do not yet know. Once I do know though, you can bet I’ll post it here!

Atriox Face made of Mega Construx figures

Okay, I do admit, you have to squint a little, but you can definitely see it.

No, not a 1 for 1 replication. That would take much longer to do. I did the Mega figures version in about an hour. Consider that I did not rotate any of the figures to fit better. I wanted to challenge myself to see how well I could do this in an hour and keep the figures all the same orientation.

I think it turned out pretty good. (Even if you have to squint a little…)

There has been no official controller or skin that I’ve seen for Halo Wars 2. So, I took it upon myself to make one. Halo Wars 2 XB1 Skin just sticker
