Welcome back, canonballers, thanks for stopping by! Last issue, we knocked out some more Hog Wild REQ fiction, and sat down with new-to-Halo author John Jackson Miller, who is contributing stories for both Halo: Fractures and Halo: Tales From Slipspace. After a week break to gather our strength – and sanity – we’re back and in full E3-prep mode.

As it’s no real secret that we’ll be showcasing the long-anticipated sequel to a certain Halo real-time strategy title on the expo’s show floor, we thought it might be prudent to take a quick look back at the story of the original Halo Wars, and set the stage for what might be next for the UNSC Spirit of Fire and her crew. Feel up to a stroll down memory lane? I thought so… Continue reading

Community Update: All Units

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

The pre-E3 Community Update is a ritual. It is a calm before the storm. By the time you read this, many from the 343 and Xbox team will already be down in Los Angeles preparing for the ceremonious week ahead. Others will soon follow. Like many before it, this one will be a brief update that will ensure you’re ready for the week ahead. I’ve also spent some time this past week with devs that you have yet to hear from in a weekly update, and we spoke about a specific something they’ve been working on. All that and more today. Cue cool music.

We’re on our way, too, and we hope we run into many of you there. Whether you’ll be joining us on the show floor or watching from home, here’s all of the info you need to know. Continue reading

Halo Wars 2 BETA and pics!

First, let me say these are “rumored” to be in-game images. Until 343 or MS have confirmed this,. please treat as such. I found these via a post on reddit/halo.

The image below has been circulating for a few days. No word on if it’s official or not, but I figured I’d include it in here as well. (Though from the Beta screenshot, it seems legit.)Halo Wars 2 Cover RS

There will be a Beta and it’s SOON!!!

HFFL Spartan Company Commendations as of 6-7-16

We’re getting much closer to unlocking the Achilles Armor!

The graphic below shows our Spartan Company Commendation progress as of this writing (6-7-16). I took the liberty adding the bigger numbers to highlight where we’re at and which one we need to focus on.

The level 3 commendations are the most important to get to the next level as that means we will have unlocked the Achilles armor.

ISSUE 77

Greetings, story-seekers! Welcome back to another lovingly crafted edition of your favorite fiction feature. This week, we’ve got even more Hog Wild lore-lovin’ on tap, as well as a virtual sit-down with a new name in the Halo story stable, John Jackson Miller. Intrigued? Then by all means, read on, friends!FARAWAY FICTION

Over the past couple of issues, we’ve shed some light on a couple of exciting new story sources for Halo fans coming up later this year – Halo: Fractures, a new short-story anthology, and Halo: Tales from Slipspace, the aforementioned graphic novel collection. Both books include some particularly intriguing new names within the Halo writers realm, and over the next few months we thought it might be fun to get to know a few of them a bit better in order to whet community appetites. Keen-eyed Canon Fodder followers might likely have noticed why Mr. John Jackson Miller made a logical first choice to start off these familiarization exercises, as he’s written stories for both upcoming products. Using the power of the internet, I sat down with the tri-monickered man to get an idea about where he’s been, and what makes him excited about leaving his own mark on the Halo universe.

Arena Multiplayer Summer Update

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

arena-rf4-module-f1431f492ec44de08261bbfe62537fde

After weeks of internal testing, feedback from the Team Arena Summer Preview playlist, and multiple rounds of feedback with Pro League teams, we’ve locked on final map layouts as well as map and game type combinations for Team Arena and the HCS Pro League. As of today, the Team Arena playlist will reflect the official HCS Pro League maps and game types.

The following game types will be played for the start of Pro League. As a note, extensive testing was done with the Assault game type, and at this time it has been determined that the game type could use some extra tuning before being integrated into Pro League play. The multiplayer team will continue working with Pro League teams on feedback and updates for future consideration. Continue reading

Community Update: A Whole New Level

The is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

Welcome back, faithful readers. Today, we talk Infection, future content releases, Forge, HCS Pro League, and more. Let us begin.

Over the past week, we’ve been monitoring your feedback on Memories of Reach, keeping a close eye on data from Infection, matchmaking search preferences, and more. Teams across the studio are diligently gathering feedback on their respective updates, and preparing for ones that are yet to come, which we’ll talk just a bit about today. To start, we’ll talk about Forging ahead. Specifically, to Windows 10. Continue reading

Forging Ahead – The Forge Experience comes to Windows 10

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint (with my commentary in blue):

Forging Ahead 1

From the very beginning, community creations have been central to the Halo experience. From stacking up grenades underneath an unsuspecting Warthog to multiplayer movie-making, the Halo sandbox has always been fertile soil for millions of moments and memories created for, and by, the fans.

In 2007, Halo 3 upped the ante with the introduction of a map editing tool called Forge, and quite literally changed the game forever, enabling a cascade of creativity, from new map and unique game type experiences to interactive art – all created by the community itself. Continue reading

Canon Fodder: The Write Stuff

This is a reblog from Halo Waypoint:

BY GRIMBROTHER ONE
ISSUE 75

Welcome back, Fodder faithful; can you believe it’s been 75 issues already? Last week we dropped new knowledge on armor and weapons from the brand new Memories of Reach content release for Halo 5: Guardians, and dropped a deep lore bomb on the community’s most curious by revealing the long-lost missing pages from Halsey’s Personal Journal.  If you missed it then, get in there and rectify that situation, Spartan! As for this week, while I don’t have any diamonds on hand – as is customary for such an anniversary – I do have something that many Halo lore lovers might consider almost as valuable: brand new info on some fabulous new fiction.Fracts of Life

Back in 2009, Halo fans around the world – including your humble messenger – devoured their respective copies of Halo: Evolutions. Showcasing “essential tales of the Halo universe,” the acclaimed anthology featured a wonderful collection of stories from a variety of passionate authors tackling a wide range of narrative corners. From “Headhunters” and “The Return,” to “Human Weakness” and “The Impossible Life & Possible Death of Preston J Cole,” many of these stories quickly began to rank among fans’ favorites. With this in mind, 343 Industries and Simon & Schuster are extremely excited to announce a brand new anthology novel, Halo: Fractures.

Memories of Reach additional info

So the Livestream just ended. Almost 2 hours worth.

Here are some things we learned.

Memories of Reach comes out TOMORROW!

Lots of Forge things coming. Textures! We will now be able to applied preset textures to all of the primitive pieces. These include Covie themed, wood, metal and more. As well, there are at least two overlays. Blood and grime!

Jorge’s Turret gives the spartan added damage and protection. No other abilities can be used when wielding the turret though.

For Infection, 3 of the dev made maps have been ‘infected’. There will also be 9 community made maps introduced into Infection.

Grifball will hang around for about another week as fixes to that game mode will be introduced with this update. Then it goes away for a time being.
