Halo Ricochet League settings and rules coming along. NEED PLAYTESTORS!

I’ve been hard at work creating preliminary settings for the Halo Ricochet League (HRL). I’m also writing the rules/regulations for the league and hope to have that completed by this weekend.

Halo Ricochet League Logo w-HFFL LOGO

This Friday from 8-10pm EST HFFL will have it’s normal Halo Fan Friday League, where we will be playing nothing but Ricochet. Some in matchmaking and some on the HRL map I created.

So if you’ve bought the Champions bundle pack and would like to have an opportunity to get involved early with the HRL, let me know. You can e-mail me at sal@halofanforlife or by sending an invite request on Friday night at the times stated above.

I will need lots of play testors for this, so the more the merrier. Feedback after matches will be welcome. Please be constructive in your criticism though.

Thanks and hope to see you then!

First Reactions and Thoughts on the Champions Bundle Pack.

championsbundle_660

I’ll just go in order of how I view/played each part of this new pack.

Weapons Skins
Wow, the Steel Weapons Skin Pack is fantastic! Detail and color are amazing. I’ve already mastered several of those weapons, so I don’t know how much use I’ll get out of them all, but it’s ALWAYS good to have choices. Great artistry! I posted all these yesterday. If you need a reminder, check out this link: https://halofanforlife.com/?p=9835

Bonus Weapon skins

The Bonus weapon skins you get when you buy the whole pack are a mixed bag, IMO. Certainly the blood spattered Trauma AR skin is sharp. That would be a great one to use while meleeing someone. The shark Teeth AR skin is fun. Reminds you of the skin on the Flamethrower from back in Halo 3. Ah, I miss that weapon. So this skin will have to do for now. The Green Camo BR skin is good. The Magnum ones however I find a little uninspiring. Normally I would have said there isn’t much room to put graphics on this, but when you look at the Magnum from the Steel Weapon Skin pack, well, that just isn’t the case.

Armor Sets/SkinsCB Armors_smOkay, so I finally got to look at these armor sets and again a mixed bag.

The Mark V looks okay but I feel is maybe a little too “curvy” and not enough “blocky.” It’s good, not great.
The ODST armor is good, but is different. The helmet isn’t quite right. It should be more angular in the visor, instead of being a bit more rounded. The chest plate looks like it’s been welded onto the torso armor instead of being a little more free flowing. Still I like this armor.
I had high hopes for the Prefect armor. It’s bulky looking. Of course that won’t affect your game play. Now, I DO think this would be GREAT for video if you were making a scene of Forerunners. For instance a Forerunner crew on Haven.
The Ricochet Armor is AWESOME! Mind you yes, it does look like American Football “Armor” and I’m perfectly okay with that.

After these four armor sets, there are several armor pattern variations. The Venator Bayonet skin may be my favorite. But that’s just a first impression. There are several to choose from and I will likely cycle through them at some point or another. What I really like about these extra skins is the fact that they all seem to utilize more of the secondary color.

Stances
There are 8 new stances to choose from.Champions Stances

Seasoned: The position of the spartan with it’s magnum drawn but pointing down makes this an aptly named stance.
Menace: Okay so the spartan is crunching his knuckles. But when you look at it in game, it almost seems like it’s making that heart symbol people do with their hands.
Loyalty: I thought I’d like this stance more, especially being a service veteran, but this comes off rather static looking.  Still, I appreciate the nod to servicemen and women everywhere.
Lookout: YES! We have a Captain Morgan posing Spartan!!! LOVE THIS ONE.
Confident: I used this one this morning. Figures it looked perfect while wearing the Ricochet armor, as it reminds me of those overconfident NFL players, LOL.
Drawn: Easily my FAVORITE of the bunch. This is a direct nod to Han Solo’s classic pose from the original Star Wars.
Flank: He’s stealthy, he’s stalking, he’s FLANKING. Great pose if you’re an assassin.
Grandstand: Okay, this seems a little off to me. I don’t know if it’s the head tilt or the way it seems like the spartan is stroking the AR or both. It just doesn’t look right to me.

From here I went into Forge and checked out Pitfall and Vertigo. Each were pleasant to zip around in as the monitor. Pitfall looks amazing! A good representation of it’s classic predecessor, now more aged and damaged. The extra Forge pieces we get with Pitfall are going to make for some VERY interesting maps I think. Vertigo is visually stunning, especially as you get closer to the open portion of the map. The massive storm in the distance is breathtaking. It rotates in a clockwise motion with effects within twirl around. There are PLENTY of avenues to navigate through this map. Sight lines are good. Oh and I got my first achievement for the Champions bundle pack on this map by activating both bases EMPs.

That leads me right into gameplay. I played 1 slayer match on Vertigo and 4 Ricochet matches on Pitfall. The slayer match moved well. Jetpack helped here significantly as there are plenty of playspaces that are vertical in nature. While there are lifts for some of those areas, having the jetpack ensures you can get from top to bottom or across without having to search out those lift. Now this was just one game, but I noticed pretty quickly that players were most of the time sticking to the middle portion of the map and not utilizing the outer rocky hallways. This might come in handy if you’re trying to get that 60 second camping achievement.

The games of Ricochet on Pitfall were a BLAST! I went 3-1. Two of those wins were QUICK. The pacing on Pitfall is very quick. Jumps you couldn’t make in halo 3 are a BREEZE in Halo 4. For instance from Plat to Green Box or the other way around. No problem here. Also, the liberal use of crates in the default map make it very easy to get around from lower to higher areas. I was able to get two more achievements here. First was scoring three times in a match. The other getting to the rockets first.

I’ve already started compiling a settings list for the “Halo Ricochet League.”
Halo Ricochet League Logo w-HFFL LOGO
I’ll need to playtest those for a few days to get some preliminary settings set for the league. Then they will be revised as league play starts and continues on.

All in all, I’m VERY happy with the Champions Bundle pack. The Steel weapons skin pack is well worth it. The armors are good and for the price a STEAL, imo. The maps are well done and the gameplay seems to move at a good pace.

Want a better look at the weapons and armor of the Champions Bundle pack?

Here’s another video preview of the Champions Bundle pack:

With the Champions Bundle pack dropping tomorrow, Halo Waypoint released the following images today.

Here are the new weapons skins with the ‘Steel Skin Pack’ portion (available for $3 separately) of the Champions Bundle Pack (click to make bigger!):

Plasma Pistol_sm Assault Rifle_sm Battle Rifle_sm DMR_sm Suppressor_sm Carbine_sm Light Rifle_sm Boltshot_sm Storm Rifle_sm Magnum_sm

I absolutely LOVE the skins for these weapons. Here I thought they were only going to be gold/wood colors. I didn’t think they’d have the wood grain, gears and other minute details. A BIG Kudos to 343 for this. FANTASTIC!!!

Here is a look at the 3 armors that are included in the ‘Infinity Armor Pack’ portion (available for $3 separately) of the Champions Bundle pack, also included in the pic is the Ricochet Armor which is part of the Bullseye Map pack (available for $6 separately). Click to make BIGGER!

CB Armors_sm

Also, don’t forget with the Bullseye pack you also get the maps Pitfall and Vertigo, and two-week advanced gameplay of Ricochet. For pics of the maps go here for Pitfall and here for Vertigo.

Now if you buy each part separately you’ll pay $12. So why not just get the WHOLE Champions Bundle pack and save yourself $2!

Personally I think this is SO worth it. Some really great graphics for the weapons skins, 4 sets of armor, 2 maps, early access to the Ricochet gametype, oh and don’t forget there are also several new stances and extras weapons skins as a BONUS if you purchase the Champions Bundle as a whole….

Champions drops tomorrow!

It’s official, HFFL will now have a gaming group!

I posted just a few short days ago about my intention to have a gaming group for HFFL. (I despise using the word “clan” for it’s negative racial connotations.)

I’ve had a several subscribers to the blog state they want to be a part of this. So with that said, today is the first OFFICIAL day of the HFFL gaming group.

Now what can the HFFL gaming group offer you and what can you offer HFFL?
The HFFL gaming group can offer you a group to game with in a casual/competitive manner. What I mean is that we play to win. However, if we lose, we won’t get too upset about it. This is a video game afterall. Losing while playing casually really doesn’t (of shouldn’t) affect your “real life.”
HFFL will hold a members only night every Friday. This will take place from 9-10pm EST. The hour previous to that will be the regular HFFL community night where anyone is welcome to join us. If there are any people interested in being a part of the gaming group, the community event is the best time/place to be. After you’ve gotten in some games with me and I feel you’ll be a good fit, I’ll let you know via e-mail. That e-mail will be the only official response to your being invited into the group.

I will be making a group roster page that will have a tab on the homepage to show who the actual members are of the group. This is being done to ensure that HFFL is not misrepresented in the community. Only those posted on the member page here at HaloFanForLife.com are official members of the HFFL gaming group.

Here are the rules as I tentatively laid them out the other day. Now they are solid:

You must be a registered subscriber to the blog. (Twitter and Facebook followers wanting to be a part of this must register on the blog)
You will NOT need to change your gamer tag. To be associated with HFFL’s gaming group you will need to include the blog’s homepage link “halofanforlife.com” in your XBOX Live Bio and maybe a sentence either before or after stating why people should visit the site. Something along the lines of “For news on all things Halo, go to halofanforlife.com.” The point being is that you are actively promoting the site by which you belong to the gaming group there of.
You attend at least 2 HFFL community events per month. Barring that if you regularly show up to game with me but can’t make community nights, that’s fine. Just don’t sign up to be in the group, only to be inactive. I’ll set up some rules for inactivity later.
Should you wish to change your gamertag to reflect HFFL, the cost is upon yourself. If you do change it, I would like it to have HFFL at the beginning of your tag.
As a member of HFFL, you will conduct yourself accordingly. Keep online cussing to a minimum. No trash talking to the opposite team. Only in rare cases might I allow it.
No T-bagging opponents. It’s tacky and isn’t appropriate. Again though, if the other team is being a real douche, well, I may overlook this.
Age requirement: Okay, I know I have members here who are under 18. So, I’ll say this, Halo is a “R” rated game. Anyone under 18 MUST behave themselves, NO cussing at all. I will NOT be held responsible for corrupting a minor. That is on the parents for allowing them to play a game rated higher than the child’s age. NO EXCEPTIONS to that rule.
You must not be in another gaming group currently. If you are, then you can be a community friend of HFFL, but not a full member of the HFFL gaming group. Noone under 14, no exceptions there. If you say you are 14 and are younger, I will NOT be held responsible.
During members night, if you are participating, you must change your emblem to the HFFL gaming group emblem. You can change it back afterwards if you wish. This is to show solidarity while playing as a group.

The official emblem for the HFFL gaming group is the Valkyrie with the Cleft background. The sword is white, the wings are ice and the Cleft is steel. See below.

MaC Rounds Crimson logo 4C VECTOR 6in

So what can you offer HFFL? What I hope is that you are a mature gamer. This doesn’t mean by age, but rather by behavior. Now that said, from time to time we may joke around a bit, so if you are easily offended, this might not be the group for you.
You will be a person who wants to contribute to the win, not your individual stats. In this respect, there are games where you’re going to have to throw K/D out the window. We’re in it to win it. This is most represented by objective based games. If you’re one of those who ONLY snipes from our base, well, you might want to look elsewhere. I want good slayers mind you, but not at the expense of the win.
You must be looking to have FUN. If you’re TOO serious or “try-hardy” then please seek out a competitive/pro group.

I expect you to follow the rules of the group as well as what I say during our members sessions. Of course if you have suggestions, I’ll be happy to hear you out. But arguing with me will not be accepted.

I reserve the right to change the rules as I see fit. I also reserve the right to expel members without any forward notice. Hopefully this won’t be needed though. I’m just posting it, just in case.

Two new Support Upgrades available today for Halo 4!

That’s right folks, in preparation for the Champions BUndle pack that drops tomorrow, you will have a small update when you launch Halo 4 today.

This update includes two new Support Upgrades.

The first is Recharge. Recharge decreases your shield recharge rate slightly. This may be just enough to get out of a tight situation, recharge and take out that enemy who is fixated on end your day!

The second is Survivor. Survivor works when a vehicle has taken damage and is going to explode. Just before that, you are ejected. This support upgrade is great for those who like to drive or gun Warthogs. I know I’ll be changing one of my loadouts today!!!

Custom Mega Bloks Sgt. Forge

I saw this custom over on bloks.hyperboards.com and just had to share it.MB Custom Forge Alt FrontThis is a masterful custom. The paint application and attention to detail is amazing given these minifigs measure between 1-2 inches.MB Custom Forge orth viewsNotice the detail on the shoulders? On the left it’s the “Spirit of Fire” logo (see below):
sof_logo
Given the size of the figure, that is some amazing detail! The right shoulder has an Ace of Spades card on it. Looks like that’s sculpted too, not just a simple paint job.

Yrkane, the customizer of this excellent minifig shares with me the details of what parts made up this custom:

He was made from stock and modified parts from:
• a masked Marine
• Marvel Loki
• Arctic Pelican pilot
• H4 Marine
• the head of a rescuplted Marvel Captain America
• Yrkane also used shaped styrene to add finer details that aren’t already on the Mega sculpts

Wow, that is an impressive list of custom parts to make just one figure. But then when you have the results Yrkane did with this one, I’d say it was WELL worth it!

Now if only MEGA Bloks would make a Sgt. Forge minifig!
