A new Halo 4 map to be revealed on Friday!

Please join me on Friday for the weekly HaloFanForLife (HFFL) Community Night.

This Friday I will unveil a new map in Halo 4 I’ve created. It might seem slightly familiar if you’ve been paying attention to the Halo news lately…

One loadout, NO Infinity drops, 4v4. The map is set for slayer and with just a few additional items, I’ll have it ready for CTF as well.

What it is, where it is, and what it’s called will be kept secret until Friday 8pm EST. Come out if you want to experience a brand new HFFL map, inspired by recent Halo news!

I hope to see you then!

Uh, I abhor that I even need to post this. I apologize for that…

This past March marks 3 consecutive years I’ve been unemployed. As a disabled veteran, you’d think I might have an easier time gaining employment, but alas that hasn’t happened. I’ve applied for many hundreds of jobs in that time frame. Funds are pretty tight for me and I do not qualify for even some of the most basic programs that would alleviate the need for me to even post this article. So here I am asking for your help.

The renewal for HaloFanForLife.com comes up in September. As well, the 2nd Annual HFFL LAN is in August. Last year I didn’t have to pay for renewal as it was the second year of my 2 year plan. As well, the LAN last year was on a shoestring budget.

This year I need help raising funds for renewal of the site. It’s much cheaper to go with a multi-year deal than yearly. So that is what I’m striving for. I will need a little bit more than $300 for two years. I’d like to go for the 5 year plan which saves me even more. That would take $600 to cover. This also helps to ensure that HFFL will be around that long!

On top of this is the LAN. All told, I’m going to need $700 for that this year. That includes the business I’m hiring to bring their equipment to my home for the LAN, as well as food, drinks, prizes and such. I’ve already petition sponsorship form several business. So far to no avail, though I am waiting on a couple others to respond.

I’m NOT asking for anyone to go out of their way here. As I’ve mentioned many times before, HFFL will always remain free to join. HFFL is not like other fan sites that charge you for membership or for getting into an ‘inner circle’. I just don’t believe in that kind of stuff as we’re all fans. So we shouldn’t be charging others. However, there are things that cost real money. So I’m asking for small donations.

If I were to get just 50 cents from every (unique) person in just ONE day of the 365 days a year as donations, this would cover those costs above. I might even have a little extra to either make the site better, run faster or have better offerings at the LAN.

It is my sincere hope that you find HFFL worth 50 cents. Again, this isn’t mandatory. It’s not a membership fee or anything of the like. You give as you want to or not. As I said, I hope that what HFFL has provided to you in the form of all things Halo including: entertainment, news, product reviews, discussions, fan art, forums and so much more, is worth that small donation. You donation helps to ensure that the site and all it offers will be around for year to come.

You can donate by clicking on the donate tab in the right menu bar on the main page (via paypal), or by donating directly to my paypal e-mail address: jedisalpitt2002@yahoo.com.

Any donation is most appreciated. Please consider it.

Respectfully,

HFFL Community night tonight from 8pm-Midnight EST!

Last Friday’s HFFL Community night was a blast. I decided then to have this every week.

hffl for sal

Come and join me and other HFFL folks tonight. Starting at 8 pm tip Midnight EST, we’ll be playing in Halo 4. We’ll start with some customs then move into matchmaking. What playlist we go into will be determined by party size so that none is left behind.

You do not have to be there the whole time. You can show up at first and leave early, show up in the middle and stay for the rest or leave early. However you want to get some gaming time in is fine.

To be a part of the gaming session, message me over XBOX Live starting at 7:45pm EST. Let me know you want an invite to join in the fun. My gamer tag is: HaloFanForLife1.

It’s preferred that you have a mic so as to help with team communication, but not necessary. I look forward to seeing all who turn out tonight!

So you may have noticed I didn’t blog yesterday…with good reason.

There is a good reason why I didn’t blog yesterday. I had intended on blogging the Halo Bulletin. However, it seems this week Bravo is skipping the bulletin in lieu of the E3 announcement.

But that’s not the big reason. I’m taking my own journey of a sorts. Many of you that have been a subscriber for awhile know that I do not shy away from the fact that I’m a big man. Not height, but weight. Well, I’m doing something about that now. Not just a simple diet, nor just exercise either.

My journey actually began a couple of months ago. I read an article on Yahoo about a mother who had her family cut out nearly all processed sugars from their food intake and how that not only improved their health but mental strength as well. I talked with my wife and came up with a plan to do the same or very similar thing. Starting near the end of March I gradually starting cutting processed sugars from my diet, then May 1, I cut nearly all of it out. Instead of processed sugar foods, I replaced them with fruit. Any time I get an urge for a snack, I’m eating an apple or banana or grapes for example. this has already shown a difference as I’ve lost 29 lbs since starting this in March.

Now I’ve taken my next step. On Tuesday, I went to a health seminar on gastric surgery. Now I know some of you may think, ‘well that’s the easy way out’. Believe me folks, it’s not. Ive struggled with my weight for more than 10 years. Now that I’m in my mid 40s, I really need to do something about it. I’ve trie diets. I’ve tried the gym. While partially successful in both regards, I always ended up putting the weight back on. Before I can undergo the gastric surgery, I have to be on a doctor supervised health plan for 5-6 months. Each month reporting in to the doctor with my food intake as well as taking my weight measurement to see it I’m not gaining weight. If I do, that would immediately disqualify me for the surgery.

Just yesterday I was approved to begin this leg of the journey. So over the next several months you may see an occasional post about this. I won’t deluge the blog with them. Just something once a month to show my progress.

Should all go well during this phase, I would have the surgery in December. Just in time for me to chill out with the Halo 5 Guardians BETA!

So getting back to yesterday. While all of the planning I had to do, the excitement of it all and such, I really didn’t have the time to blog. This is a rare occurrence as many of you subscribers know. I’m usually posting at leaf one article a day, many times more than one.

So I invite you to stick with HFFL, even when I might have to take a day off from blogging. You know there is always going to be something I’ll blog about. Be that Halo news, toy reviews, podcasts, fan art, Halo novels, comic books, etc.

I also invite those who haven’t yet subscribed to please do so. It’s FREE to do so. Click on the tab in the menu bar near top for subscribing. As well, please join the HFFL forums. It’s still pretty new at only a few months old. We need your input and ideas. The forums are a great place to do just that.

Wish me well on my personal journey. In the meantime, continue the Halo journey with me here at halofanforlife.com!

The Spirit of Fire podcast E3 2014 edition!

Spirit of Fire Podcast LOGO_R-sm

We recorded this shortly after the reveal of the Master Chief collection. It would have been done LIVE, but I had some technical issues. Those being I had WAY too many windows open. 4 live streams, the blog, twitter, Waypoint and more….My computer just couldn’t handle all the Halo goodness. The program I use to record crashed, so we had to record after. Unfortunately that meant that Martin one of my co-hosts wouldn’t be on as it was already about 2am his time in Australia.

However, my co-host and long-time friend Zach was with me. We talk for about 45 minutes regarding the Master Chief Collection. Here is is about 5 hours after and I’ve got SO much more to talk about. But I’ve left that to blog articles, preceding this one and forthcoming.

In the meantime, listen here:

Or download and listen later here:

Thanks to all who came out for HFFL Community Night

I had a really good time gaming last night. Without promoting it much, we still had 10 people show up. We played a lot of customs. Various games including race, “Duck Hunt” (A flood variant), CTF (on a map I made) and more. After a bit we went into matchmaking. Lots of BTB then Heavies when the group got a little smaller.

Met a couple of new people during the night. “D Vice” and “RoyVic“. Thatnks to Roy for streaming the games through his twitch account: http://www.twitch.tv/royvic/b/536125870

It was great to have most of the HFFL gaming group fellas there, including two who hadn’t played with us in awhile. Welcome back to ExR Impacts and Tetrahedrite!

I’ve decided since we had a great time and a good turnout to once again have this every Friday. So count on a HFFL Community Night every Friday from 8pm-Midnight EST. You can show up whenever and don’t have to stay the whole time.

We’ll likely start with some customs for some variation and fun, then move on to matchmaking.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Overnight I was gaming with Dijabouti, one of my friends. He also is a member of the HFFL Gaming Group. Not an unusual thing. However, it was his excitement and revaluation that was very cool.

He got a second job, which is commendable. One of the things he’s doing with the money he makes from that though is coming to the HFFL LAN! This is AWESOME!

This means I know I will already be having folks come from Chicago, San Jose, and (outside of ) Austin. What’s even better is that those three people coming in from out of town are all part of the HFFL Gaming Group. Not to mention my bud PensHalo who’s coming. He’s local to me. And of course i’ll be there… Anyway, the five of us make up the core of the active HFFL Gaming Group members.

That has me pretty stoked for this year’s LAN. One other thing “Dij” said during the conversation is that he’s happy to have found best friends through Halo. Myself and “HFFL Big Cheese” being mentioned as some of them.

It just makes me feel really good to know that I’ve had a small part in helping people become friends, enough so that they’re willing to travel hundreds (and in the case of HFFL Big Cheese more than 2,300) miles to meet. We’ve known each other from some time now, though I’ve never met Dij and Cheese in person.

Okay, so not directly about Halo, but is indirectly since it’s regarding the HFFL 2nd Anniversary LANstravaganza, which is ALL about Halo! On that note, if you’d like to attend, check out the LAN page HERE and bookmark it so you can keep track of updated information.

HaloFanForLife.com community night, Friday June 6.

I haven’t done one of this in awhile, so I thought with E3 on the horizon, I’d hold a community night.

Time to start will be 8pm EST until Midnight.

You’re welcome to join in for all or part of the community night.

The turnout of gamers will dictate what games we play.

I do plan on playing on a custom map I’ve map. From there, we might continue to play customs or head into matchmaking.

If you’d like to join in, send me a message over XBOX Live that Friday. If you want to bring in a friend, let me know in the message first. Please be respectful and not bring in people yourself once you are in the party. Just ask me if you can bring a friend in later.

I look forward to having a fun night of gaming. See you then!

Of Halo leaks and theories.

Yesterday, I reposted the supposed leak from a supposed insider. A couple of people questions why I would do that and if it were appropriate for my blog.

The short answer is YES. However, let me explain.

On Friday, when the news broke of Halo 5 Guardians, we were all generally excited. It had been leaked the night before that we would hear of some news, just not specifically what that news would be. Did that take away from the news for me? Not at all. In fact it got me even more excited as I figured I wouldn’t be blindsided by info and could quickly share it with all of you good readers.

As evidenced on this very blog, theories abounded about the name, the concept art, and more. It was fun to guess, make conjecture, etc.

Fast forward to yesterday when someone wrote out a “leak” of what Halo 5 Guardians’ plot would be and what would be in multiplayer. Along with this Frank O’Connors reaction to it.

As a Halo fan, I would want to know if a leak happened, and more so, if the leak were TRUE. As a Halo blogger, I felt it my DUTY to report this news to you folks and repeatedly make mention that this news was NOT confirmed by 343.

While it may be disappointing to those at 343 (and understandably so), leaks happen in MANY industries. I see this happen very often in the toy industry. What does bother me is it seems that once again, 343 ids ill prepared to handle such leaks, be they true or not. Yes, in a perfect world, the developers themselves would be the ones to announce the news of their game. To do this, they really need to vet their employees more fully as well as those who play test for them, as the leaker claims to be one of.  Regardless of that though, many of we fans have starved for ANY info about the next Halo game. Friday’s reveal was a great start, but was very minor in actuality, despite the coverage it received, here and elsewhere.

What we fans do NOT want to see is 343 once again ignoring stuff like leaks. Frank’s plea is a mixed bag with folks. Go on any number of forums and you’ll see people both for and against Frank on the issue. For the record, I completely understand Frank’s frustration. However, I do think he could have handled it more diplomatically.

As an example, it might have been said this way:

We are still more than a year from release of Halo 5 Guardians. Any information that comes from a source that is not 343 and/or Microsoft needs to be treated as rumor.

He could have also gone on to say:

This information is rather all encompassing. Some things may come to pass while others may not. It is still too early for us to discuss any of the finer details of the game as we are in development of it. In the months ahead, we will reveal things in due time.

Something like either of those statements would quell the leak somewhat. One issue though is that there are many fans who are leary of not having a straight up answer from 343. When you consider what they talked about before Halo 4 was released, then what we got in the game, there is reasonable cause for pause here. We asked of the “perks” rumor. They denied it or tried to twist it around, yet that’s essentially what we got.

There are other things I could go on about. The pint being, people are not as quick to trust when they have felt some varying degree of being “burned” or “deceived.”

As a person who has nearly 20 years in marketing, I’ve see whole ad campaigns, that have been in the works for months or longer, utterly destroyed by just ONE bad PR incident. Pro/competitive players are curious about what Halo 5’s multiplayer will bring. Is it more of the same? Will we have ranks again? Ranked and Social Playlists? And again, the list could go on. Halo Lore folks, like myself, are really jonesing for any information about what the next campaign will be.

So, YOU have to decide for yourself. Did this leak HURT or HELP Halo 5? It is my opinion that even if this information is wrong, it has still created more of a stir for the game. That can only be a good thing. Of course, if you believe all of that leak, you may well be in for a surprise and/or a let down. So do yourselves a favor and do not take it seriously. Until/Unless 343 refutes it, it should be considered rumor/conjecture/supposition by someone.

As to those questioning me personally about having that info on the blog… As I expressly said it should be considered rumor, not official, and the like, I think I’ve made it abundantly clear where I stand on this. With respect to those questioning me, is there any harm in reporting this? How am I any different than the likes of IGN for instance? Is it because they are a HUGE site that they are allowed to report on this? I should hope you good readers would actually appreciate reading this at a fan’s site, than one of the mega gaming news sites that posts the story for news fodder and moves on. I am very much entrenched in Halo. You see that on a daily basis when you come here to the blog. If I thought posting that would ruin my credibility, might I have considered posting it? The answer there is NO. I still would have posted it. Why? Well to put it bluntly, this is MY blog. I pay for it. I didn’t leak this info. I just reposted it.

One BIG reason why I created this blog was because I was being censored or held back at another Halo site I was heavily involved with. I want to share everything I can and in a responsible way. If I was being responsible about the leak article, I would have said it was true or something along those lines. I hope you all think and know better of me than that.

So you won’t find me apologizing for reposting the leak. If anything, it may just keep 343 “honest”. Meaning that they are more under the gun to deliver clear, concise, and timely information about Halo 5 Guardians, rather than try to keep things so secret. That approach failed them miserably with Halo 4. I think most of us would agree that we don’t want to see Halo 5 fail either. Especially because 343 can’t handle leaks or PR incidents.

I’ve said repeatedly that I only wish the best success for 343 and I still mean that.
