Watch the Finals on XBOX Live this Sunday at 7PM ET / 4PM PT!
The top 8 Halo players in the world will battle it out during a live two-hour broadcast on Sunday, September 1st beginning at 7pm ET / 4pm PT for a chance to win a $200,000 first place prize. The tournament will be hosted by Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson, Blair Herter and Jessica Chobot.
On top of competitive gameplay, the tournament will also feature play-by-play commentary and analysis by Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky and Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, as well as post-match interviews and highlights. Last night, Rukari Austin, formerly of Microsoft, then 343, now again with Microsoft (different office) threw a HUGE Bar-B-Que, having 74 Halo fans over at his place. Below is the signature board from the event!
As far as Halo 4 Global Tournament news goes, nuketaco42 from GrifballHub and my friend POD Dust Storm from Podtacular have made it through to the next round in the Invitational brackets.
As I get more info on who’s made it through to the next rounds, I’ll post it.

HFFL LAN Event – registration is almost over, sign up now!
Registration for HFFL’s first ever LAN event ends Friday, Aug 23 at 11:59pm.

HFFL LAN Event update! 8.15.13
Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of going to the gaming center where the LAN will be held. Got to talk with the owner about how I want to set up some Halo things to display. Here are a few pics of the place the LAN will be held at (It’s bigger than it looks in the pics):
As you can see there is a bathroom. As well, the owner informs me that he will have snacks for sale. Everything is $1 each with exception to 5-hour energy drinks. You of course can bring your own snacks.
In this area is where I’ll have much of my Halo display and where we’ll have the Halo Showcase portion of the LAN.
Part of the set up. The larger TV will be used to watch the FFA tourney once a person has been knocked out of it.
More of the set-up. He has a total of 16 tv/console set-ups. So no equipment is needed by attendees. Just bring yourself and whatever drinks/snacks you want for the night.
Don’t forget there will be pizza and a drink included with your paid admission to the event.
Beyond this, I also got some great news from Mega Brands, makes of Halo Mega Bloks. They will be donating prizes for the FFA tournament. As well, they will be providing additional items for door prizes to be given to each paid LAN Event attendee.
We’re still working on the logistics of what the prizes will ultimately be. That said, I now have a list of 20 people who have said they are coming to the LAN. I should add that there  is NO limit to the number of people that can attend. Doutbful will hit a Fire Code violation of attendees.
So if you’re thinking about attending, you have until Aug 23, to confirm it. Send me an e-mail at [email protected] with your intention on coming. There is no preregistration cost to this, however I ask that if you do send an e-mail that you are coming, please show up.

HFFL Halo LAN Event update!
Here is the schedule of events during the LAN. The LAN starts at 5pm. Times for the schedule below are fluid. Meaning, when one ends the next will begin.

HFFL’s first ever LAN EVENT – updated details!!! Special Guests and more!
Since I’m getting a good response so far from this, I’m changing the name from LAN Party to LAN Event.
Before I get too far into the updates, here again are the specifics again for the event:
• DATE/TIME: Saturday, September 14. It will be a 3 hour event, from 5-8pm.
• COST: The cost is $15 per person. This will include pizza and a drink as well as use of the gaming equipment. I will also be holding a FFA tournament within this LAN for prizes. Prizes TBD. (More on that soon.)
• LOCATION: Game On Party Planners LLC

The event will be streamed on Twitch.. Live video/commentating as well. Oh yeah, I guess I should mention this….
I am happy to report that the HFFL LAN Event will have at least two special guests. Dustin “Dust Storm” Pettigrew, host of the longest and most popular Halo podcast on the net Podtacular.com, will be in attendance. It’s his Twitch channel we’ll be streaming the event through.
Also, Eric “GH057ayame” Hewitt, former National Halo Champion and current Halo commentator, will be there. Not sure if I can get him to commentate the FFA mini-tourney here, but we’ll see…
So here’s a chance to meet two important Halo community members in both Dustin and Eric.
If you plan on attending, I will need a few things:
• E-mail me at [email protected] with your intention to come to the event.
• You must be 18 years of age or older. ID will be checked. If you don’t have ID you will not be allowed in. [UPDATE] I’ve had a few requests from those 18-20 to attend the event. I am now opening this up to those ages as well. However you MUST sign a waiver, stating you will NOT drink alcoholic beverages at the event.
• Payment must be in cash at the event location.
Since this is an adult event, you are permitted to bring alcohol, however you MUST sign a waiver absolving both the gaming center and myself from any alcohol related actions. This is mandatory. If you don’t/won’t sign it, then please do not attend. Neither the business nor myself can afford a lawsuit, which I hope you all understand. Again, under 21 will NOT be permitted to drink alcohol, nor will you be admitted if it’s suspected you were drinking alcohol before the event.
[UPDATE 2] I have decided to bring some rare collectibles for viewing. Beyond the already discussed Mega Bloks Forward Unto Dawn set and custom Covenant Cruisers I’ve built, I will also have on display:
• 3 foot tall Halo 2 Master Chief
• McFarlane’s Master Chief Vs. Hunter statue from the “Forward Unto Dawn” series. This is one of only 500 produced and you’ll have a chance to see it in person.
[UPDATE 3]Â There will be some time set aside during the event to showcase Halo collectibles. So if YOU have something unique/rare/or just something directly Halo related you’d like to show-off, PLEASE bring it! Also, if you have some kind of Halo attire, be that shirts, hats, pins, please wear them to the event. Represent HALO!
This isn’t mandatory of course, just something neat for a Halo related event to show on the stream as well as have in pictures.
I do want to mention that by coming to the event, you agree to have your picture taken. This may or may not be posted on the blog/twitter/facebook. No reimbursement either. This is just a fun event folks.
As I get news on prizes or anything else new for the event, I’ll continue to post updates for the LAN.

SDCC Recap: How many blocks in that Promethean Knight?

The final piececount, revealed back in Montreal by the planning team who put together the beast was an astonishing 420,173 bloks.
“After sifting through the 7,500 entries, we were thrilled to find a guess that was off by only 3 pieces – an incredibly close guess considering how much variance there was in guesses across the board. So a big congratulations goes out to somebody named Goober, with a guess of 420,170 pieces, that would have won him or her the entire fall line-up of Mega Bloks Halo toys…had the emails we sent been answered within the provided one week period. Now we’re in the process of contacting the next closest guesser.”
Okay, who’s the “goober” that didn’t respond to their e-mail? SERIOUSLY?

Within the past couple of days I had a “spirited” conversation regarding scalping, specifically with regards to convention exclusives. Since San Diego Comicon is in full swing now, I’m asking that you all use good judgement should you seek to find exclusives, via the net, be that places like eBay or others.
Personally, I ABHOR the practice of scalping. It does nothing than to serve the person who is doing the scalping. Yes, you may get an item you wanted, but often having to pay a price MORE than you wanted to. So again use your own judgement here.
I submit to you TWO instances already of the douchebag practice. Yes, that is what I think of it…
Mega Bloks has FREE giveaway figures for SDCC 2013 this year. I’ve already written about it. Last night was Pre-view night, and some folks already got their hands on these freebies and are scalping them on eBay. Just LOOK at the ridiculous asking prices:
$15 plus $2.50 shipping and $29.99 w/free shipping, respectively.
ARE YOU FRACKIN’ SERIOUS?!?!!!!
Please folks, do NOT give in to temptation. Certainly NOT with these minifigs. Mega has already stated these will be EVENT giveaways. It is NOT exclusive to SDCC only. As I’ve already reported, they will be giving away 1,000 PER DAY at SDCC. There will be a few more conventions and such that these will be given away. They are going to be EASY to find for a FAIR price, if not FREE. I’m reminded of an old saying. “A fool and his money are soon parted.” PLEASE don’t be that fool.
I’m trying my darndest to secure some of these as GIVEAWAYS on the blog here in the near future.
I can’t fault the manufacturers/retailers/etc. They use these as marketing tools. I get that. But those con goers that profiteer by racing around cons to snag exclusives to resell…ugh, that just disgusts me. Worse when people use the excuse that they do it to fund or in part reimburse their trip. Folks, if you’re already going to the con anyway, why are you passing this cost off on to others. Just a grade ‘A’ douche move, IMO.
I go through this every year during SDCC. I ALWAYS seem to have this argument somewhere. This year it was on a Halo collecting Facebook page. I tend to go a little overboard with my viewpoint on this subject. So to that group, apologies if I angered anyone. I can’t help that I’m very passionate against scalping. And that will never change.
I’m not saying people shouldn’t sell stuff. But be reasonable. If you have to wait in a long line, then yes, a REASONABLE addition to cost is acceptable. NOT what these douchés are asking above. That’s just ridiculous.
To get these at SDCC it’s barely more than walking up and asking for one. You may need to take a minute to register an e-mail. Is that really worth $15? or $30? REALLY?
Okay, enough of the rant on the subject this year. Regardless of this, I still look forward to what comes out of SDCC each year.
