HFFL’s first ever Halo LAN coming soon…

Over the last few weeks, I’ve come to find out that I have several people on my friends list that are local to me (Southwestern, Pennsylvania). Through gaming/talking with them, there’s been discussion of having a LAN party. (LAN=Local Access Network)

So…I’m looking into it. This is in the very earliest of stages at the moment. So I’m not sure of the when, where, how much, etc., this will be. While I’d like to host this at my house, I am a little concerned about privacy. With this in mind, I’m going to look at either business who hosts LANs, or renting a hall for a LAN. Cost to come would be determined on how many are coming, how much it would cost for a LAN business to set this up, cost of a hall to rent, etc. I’m trying to make this as inexpensive as possible for everyone’s sake

There is a lot to figure out with this. First how many people are going to be there. Of my friends list there are six folks within 10 miles of me. A couple more people are about an hour away.

If you are in the southwestern portion of PA or would be willing to drive to Pittsburgh for the HFFL Halo LAN, (if out of the local area) let me know. I’d like to get a rough idea to start of how many people might attend. This will let me know what kind of business/hall to plan on. From there, I will contact every interested gamer to ask about a date they’d prefer. One thing is for certain, this will be on a Saturday. It may roll over to Sunday, again, if there is enough participation.

Now, depending on the LAN business I contact, we may need to bring TVs, XBOX’s, copy of Halo games, etc. Again, that is something that will be determined a little bit later.

Coming back to the date of this, I’d like to have it either the weekend of Aug 24 or 31. I know that’s only a month away, however, that’s why this is more of a local thing. I don’t expect people to fly in from other parts of the country (though you’re welcome to, but you’ll have to pay for your own travel and lodging). If not either of those weekends, then some time in September as that is HFFL’s second anniversary. No later though as I don’t want people to have to travel in the cold to get here.

Okay, so with the very basics out there, who might be interested in coming to the first ever HFFL LAN?

I may have prizes, though I can’t guarantee that. I will try though.

This LAN is for 21 years of age and older. NO exceptions, even with a parent. Sorry, kids, this is an adult outing here. Consumption of alcohol likely will take place and I will NOT have anyone younger attend. I will not put myself at risk of a child drinking illegally. (You will need to confirm your age before hand and I WILL be checking IDs.) As well, there will likely be cussing going on and I won’t contribute that to minors. Apologies to those 18-20. While I’d like to have you come to the LAN, the potential risk to me (read above) legally outweighs anything else. Thanks for understanding.

If you are 21 or over, please reply either to this article OR e-mail me at: sal@halofanforlife.com

The Halo Bulletin 7.25.13

halobulletinheader_7-24-13This week’s update starts with a recap of SDCC 2013. While we were promised something “Mega” at SDCC, the event left us wondering what the heck the “Mega” surprise was. Was it the release of Halo: Spartan Assault? Was it the Mega Bloks full sized Promethean Knight? Both of which were cool in their own right, but not what people were thinking of when they read “Mega.” I for one was hoping to see some Halo XBOX One stuff, or the Halo tv show to come with XBOX one.

Anyway, so the recap goes over the panels, first gameplay on the Champions Bundle pack, and Spartan Assault gameplay.

Next we have three new screenshots from the Champions Bundle pack showing off the armor being introduced (or in one instance re-introduced) into Halo.

Prefect Armor
h4 champions bundle_drop shock_660ODST Armor – I am SO looking forward to this armor!

Ricochet Armor. (Note the subtle Seattle Seahawk reference with this armor color? LOL)

Now I wonder, why wasn’t the Mark V armor not shown? Also, the map shown for both the Prefect and Ricochet…is that Vertigo? If so, it’s from an angle I’ve not seen before. Makes me curious if this is a different map? I really don’t recall seeing these views in any of the several video flythroughs that I’ve watched.

Next up in the Bulletin is a gallery of the SDCC Champions Bundle Competition.

Next is an update on the Halo 4 Global Championship tourney. (Which BTW, has changed since they posted this update. The top ten as of this post are as follows:

We’re looking forward to showcasing Rumble Pro and Rumble BRs in week 3 of the Global Championship. The upcoming week will likely be the most competitive because the gameplay is focused on precision rifle usage and map control, with motion tracker enabled and personal ordnance disabled. The map variants for this week will be identical to week 1: Adrift, Abandon, Solace, Haven, Monolith, Skyline, and Landfall. Both game types will be available across the maps, with identical initial ordnance and on-map weapon locations. Best of luck to all week 3 competitors, and enjoy your Double XP!

Here are the other weekly playlist updates:

In Spartan Ops, we are offering a selection of Covenant enemy themed missions:
Episode 1, Mission 1: Land Grab
Episode 1, Mission 2: Sniper Alley
Episode 2, Mission 2: For Science
Episode 2, Mission 3: Hacksaw
Episode 2, Mission 4: Pelican Down

Lockdown in the Dominion playlist has been updated with several changes. To allow for an optimized attack / defend dynamic, motion tracker has been disabled, and auto-turrets and shield doors have been removed. These updates will make it more difficult to defend a base, and result in more back-and-forth style gameplay. Lastly, we’ve also made some updates to Legendary Slayer:

  • On Haven, the Rocket Launcher is now updated to have one spare clip instead of two.
  • On Adrift, the Spartan Lasers have been replaced by Sniper Rifles.
Lastly as ever, the bulletin ends with a Screenshot Spotlight. This week’s subject? FUNNY!
There are actually some pretty good shots in the gallery, so I suggest taking a look see.
